The Intimidators have now dropped 12 of 16 games to the Crawdads this season, including seven of nine in Kannapolis. In 10 starts with the Dash, he went 3-5 with a 5.44 ERA (33 ER/49.2 IP) before moving to the bullpen. He joined the Intimidators last week and tossed three hitless innings out of the bullpen in a win over Delmarva. He split last season between Kannapolis, Winston-Salem and Bristol, going 8-7 with a 4.05 ERA in 22 starts, including a pair of complete games for the Intimidators, tying for the SAL lead. Hickory s Hurler: Kevin Matthews, 19, makes his first appearance against the Intimidators and his third start after opening his season with four relief appearances. He has worked just three innings in each of his first two starts, allowing three runs and at least five walks in each. About Last Night: The Crawdads batted around in the eighth inning to pull away from Kannapolis, dropping the Intimidators, 7-1, on Tuesday. Nick Martinez (4-2) tossed six scoreless innings, scattering seven hits while striking out seven for the win. Kannapolis threatened to strike in the fourth inning when Mark Haddow, Rangel Ravelo and Leighton Pangilinan all singled to load the bases before Martinez struck out the next three batters to get out of the jam unscathed. Scott Snodgress worked four hitless innings to open the game before Kellin Deglan's two-out home run put the Crawdads up 1-0 in the fifth. Snodgress (2-3) struck out a season-high eight batters while working two batters into the seventh inning before being lifted from the game. He finished the night allowing three runs on three hits in a losing effort. The Crawdads pulled away with a six-run eighth inning, chasing Snodgress from the game on a Deglan double. Stew Brase allowed four runs on five hits, including a Nick Urbanus two-run single that started the scoring spree. Double Trouble: Kannapolis has hit into six double plays over the last two games, including a season-high tying four on Monday against the Crawdads. In five games during the second half the Intimidators have hit into 13 double plays, including at least two in the three finished games against Delmarva (Sunday s game was suspended in the fourth inning). Strikeout Hounds: Kannapolis starters Chris Devenski and Scott Snodgress each struck out eight batters in starts against the Crawdads this week. Ross Reaches Base: Ross Wilson singled on Tuesday, maintaining one of the top on-base percentages in the league. His.424 OBP ranks fourth. He has reached base in 53 of 59 games with Kannapolis this season. Wilson has hit safely in his last nine games. On The Mark: Right fielder Mark Haddow ranks third in the SAL with a.336 batting average and is tied for second with 91 hits. He is tied for the league-lead with 73 games played. Hickory Homers: The Crawdads have hit 18 home runs in 16 games against the Intimidators. Martin Supreme: Martin Medina hit his first home run of the year in Saturday s win, extending his current hitting streak to eight games. He is batting.400 (12-30) in that stretch. One-Run Wonders: The Intimidators are 15-7 in one-run games this season, including a 3-1 mark against the Crawdads and 9-0 at home. Kannapolis has a.682 winning percentage in one-run games, second in the league behind Hagerstown at.727 (8-3). Scoreless Soptic: Reliever Jeff Soptic worked two scoreless innings in Monday s loss, giving him three straight scoreless relief appearances, spanning 4.2 innings. He had allowed seven runs over his previous four outings, finishing the first half with a 7.27 ERA (7 ER/8.2 IP). The flame-throwing right-hander has the Best Fastball in the White Sox organization according to Baseball America. The White Sox selected him in the third round of the June 2011 draft. How Do You Like Me Blough: Bryan Blough allowed an earned run over two innings against Hickory on Monday, just the second time he has allowed an earned run in his last 16 games.
