1 Swift Current Minor Hockey Association Monthly Meeting November 4 th, 2013 Sask Hockey Hall of Fame 1. Call to Order - Bruce called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm. 2. Present Richard Bissonnette, Eric Bloom, Jeremy Rondeau, Greg Hurrell, Wade Lacher, Cheyenne Arntsen, Angele Beaulac, Bruce Reid, Norm Tonnies, Darwin Knelson, Dean Quinton, Kevin Patenaude, Shauna Lacher, Jason Silzer, Bryan Braun, George Bowditch, Nola Smith Regrets Kevyn Kristmanson, Kim Bachek 3. Additions/Adoption of Agenda Addition of Atom Female under New Business. Motion to adopt the agenda as amended. Seconded. Carried. 4. Acceptance of October 7 th, 2013 Motion to accept the minutes from October 7 th, 2013 as presented. Seconded. Carried. 5. Old Business Nothing 6. New Business Novice Division Head Jason Silzer has resigned from his position as Division Head for the Novice division. Jason explained his decision to the board and recommended that Kyle McIntyre assume the vacant position. Motion to approve Kyle McIntyre as Novice Division Head. Seconded. Carried. Jason presented his final report. Evaluations are complete and the teams are skating. December 1 st is the deadline for coaches interested in coaching the provincial teams. Names will be forwarded to the board at this time. Motion to approve the following coaches for the Novice Division Chad Herman, Cheyenne Arntsen, Rej Stringer, Trevor Schmeiss, Mike Jarvis, Kevin Sandercock, Brendon Bochek, Josh Vandendort, Kyle McIntyre, Liam Choo-foo, Tom Christianson, Pat Rokochy, Jeremy Rommelaere and Monty Reich. Seconded. Carried. Clinics George has been in contact with SHA and he noted that as of the hockey season, all coaches will be required to have the checking clinic, the Respect in Sport and there must be one certified goalie coach on the roster. Swift Current is running clinics at SHA s request through-out October and November. Registration has been done on-line and SHA has issued paid in full receipts which means that we cannot charge out of town attenders to assist with covering out cost. George will contact SHA for clarification.

2 On-line Motions Motion to approve Mike Haydon and Rob Funk as coaches for the PeeWee division. Seconded. Carried. Motion to waive the late registration fee for Jordan Wittman who was recently released by the SC Broncos. Jordan will now play with the AA Hurricanes. Seconded. Carried. Motion to move Anthony Wilson up to the Atom Division from Novice. Anthony has been evaluated by both division heads. Seconded. Carried. Motion to approve Lyle Pleasance as head coach of the SC Midget Knights. Seconded. Carried. Motion to accept Bert Legault Southland Realty as sponsor for the SC Midget AA Titans. Seconded. Carried. Sponsorship Amounts Crescent Point has been approached by several teams requesting sponsorship donations. The company has indicated that their policy is to donate to an organization rather than a specific team. Discussion on sponsorship amounts, distribution among AAA and AA teams. Angele will work on a solution for this request. PeeWee Jersey s The jerseys that came for the PeeWee division are too big for the players. It was decided that they will be held to replace the Bantam and Midget ones as needed. Darwin has samples coming from Bauer to re-size and order. Shauna requested a slightly smaller set for the girls as well. Motion to purchase 6 new sets of jerseys for the PeeWee Division. Seconded. Carried. Goalie Equipment Shauna and Darwin have gone through the equipment to put together some sets for the female teams. A few pieces of equipment have been purchased to complete the sets for a total of around $170. PW Provincial Jerseys Last year, a local member gave a set of his personal jerseys to the PW Provincial team to use. There was an agreement in place to pay $100 for the set. Payment has still not been received. SCMHA will check into this. Ice Scheduling for Provincial Teams Discussion on the Midget division as Greg has not had any concerns over their process in the past and would like to continue to use the same approach. A concession was requested on behalf of the Midget Division to not require a try-out for the provincial team. The team will be picked with the collaboration of both coaches and the Division Head. A letter will be sent to the parents outlining their process. Seconded. Carried.

3 Computer for Scheduling Discussion on computer for scheduling. Nola was going to use hers however now that she has hired an accountant for her business, she will need to have a separate one for Minor Hockey. Motion to allow Nola to purchase a computer for minor hockey scheduling in the price range of $1100. Seconded. Carried. Jr. Female Division Kevin and Bruce attended a meeting with parents last week. There is a small group of parents that have concerns. Motion to approve Kevin Patenaude as Division contact for the Jr. Female Atom teams. Seconded. Carried. 7. Correspondence None 8. Financial Report Motion to accept the financial report as presented. Seconded. Carried. 9. Reports Legionnaires Midget The K-MOTEL Midget AA Hurricanes have been very busy lately. We have played 11 league games with a record of 9 wins 1 tie and 1 loss for a total of 19 points and are currently in 1st place in the South Sask Minor Hockey League. On the 03rd of NOV 2013 we sponsored a league game to raise money and sports equipment for KIDSPORT, raising close to $1, in money and equipment for this very worthwhile cause. We want to thank everyone who donated financially and with used sports equipment so all kids can play sports. The players are involved with Wheelchair hockey with the other Tiered Minor Hockey teams to help those confined to wheelchairs enjoy an hour or so of hockey. The team really enjoy this. The HURRICANES are wearing red poppies on their Helmets in remembrance of those who sacrificed and gave up so much so that we are able to play our game. The Midget A teams the RE/MAX WILD & KNIGHTS have been formed and selected players. After evaluations and a coach was found for the KNIGHTS, everything seems to be running smooth. There are currently 21 players certified to the WILD and 20 players on the KNIGHTS. They have begun league play and have entered some tournaments to attend. The 12 team tournament for the Midget Division is being organized between the two teams and approximately 30 teams have requested entry from Sask/ Alberta/Man. Bantam Division is running smoothly. The Raiders are struggling but working hard. Their tournament is ready to go.

4 Pee Wee Report Broncos are 8 games in with a 3 & 5 record. Season seems to going well. House league started this past weekend with all teams playing at least once. Everything seems to be going well with no issues other than the jerseys being too big, which is on the agenda. Atom All the teams are picked and skating. There has been a request for a Tier 11 carded team. Motion to approve a Tier 11 carded team for the Atom division under the condition that there is no play on the March 1 st weekend. Seconded. Carried. Novice See notes under New Business Initiation There are 3 teams in Junior Initiation. Motion to approve teams of 12 and 13 players. Seconded. Carried. There are four teams of 14 in Senior Initiation. Motion to approve the following coaches for the Initiation Division Senior Coaches Jeremy Rondeau, Kent Silbernagel, Mike Jarvis, Dave Munro, Regan Darby, Emery Tuplin, Trent Wills, Michael Calow, Brad Woods, Greg Smith, Kevyn Kristmanson, Kevin Leshures, Craig Popp, Billy Brewer, Trevor Schmiess, Blair Simpson, Derek Wallace, Garnet Unger, Terrick Beaudoin, Dave Banmann, Mike Haydon, Brent Vickers, Sean Sparks, Chris McLaren and Mr. Walker. As well, the following Junior Initiation coaches Jody Allen, Sheldon Paulhus, Mike Whitney, Dustin Fox, Candace Salt, Kevin Leshures, Michael Olfert, Garnet Unger, Jordan Telke, Mark Plewis, Brent Millar, Terrick Beaudoin and Gerald Johnson. Seconded. Carried. Tim Horton s has donated another 4 sets of new jerseys. The tournament is full. There has been an offer by a parent to purchase toques for their team. Because this is not a solicited donation, it is permitted. Norm will go through the lists to see who is still required to complete their certification. It was noted that Blaine Stork has indicated that SHA will run another IP coaching clinic in Swift Current. Sr. Female AAA Wildcats Wildcats have played 8 games (ninth tonight) and are 2 w 5 L and 1 OTW. Beat the first place Saskatoon Stars on Saturday and play again today. Everything running smooth with the Wildcats. AA Titans 2 W 4 L as of Sunday they play again today. Things going well with the team nothing to report. Midget A Avalanche Playing Sunday so far 1W 1L 1T. Things going well with the team nothing to report.

5 Jr. Female Initiation Lost one player from Sr. Initiation group which now brings us down to 8 players. Motion to have Steve Billows, Derek Murdoch and Kevin Rempel approved as assistant coaches for the Sr. Initiation team. (Of 8 kids, we needed 6 assistant coaches to make it work.) Seconded. Carried. Novice Motion that Emily Mickelborough receives approval to transfer from the Female Novice Division to the Female Atom Division. Seconded. Carried. Atom - Request for carded team and application for coaches (correspondence attached). Motion to approve the request for a carded team. Seconded. Carried. - Request to have Marlin Olfert and Wade Brown approved as assistant coaches. (This would be in addition to Dan Runcie and Aaron Bakus). Motion to approve Wade Brown as an assistant coach. Seconded. Carried. Motion to approve Marlin Olfert as an assistant coach. Seconded. Motion was defeated. Discussion on helpers for the team. What are the insurance requirements for student helpers that are not registered with SCMHA? The players that are registered with SCMHA would have insurance and could be on the ice. A former member has also requested to assist however as she is not an SCMHA member, she would need to be added to their coaching list under Stick Boy, etc in order to obtain coverage to be on the ice with the girls. - Request to move a player from Atom to Novice. Player was brand new to hockey and had only been on skates 4 times. The parents have requested that she be allowed to play at that level for the season. Motion to allow player to play in the Novice division for this year. Seconded. Carried. Pee Wee Bantam player requested to play down in PW girls. She has since withdrawn from hockey therefore the SSHL request submitted for the overage player was withdrawn. Motion that Jason Nimegeers be approved as an assistant coach for the season. Seconded. Carried. Referees Risk Management & Progressive Discipline Working on a more complete data base Most police check forms are out. Will start ing shortly those who have yet to hand theirs in.

6 Equipment Motion to approve the donation of an old set of SCMHA sweaters currently being stored at Diamond Energy to a new team in the No Hit League. Seconded. Carried. It is difficult to keep track of s especially when new topics are begun in old subjects. 10. Other Motion to accept Jason Silzer as our member at large for the remainder of the term. (2015) Seconded.
