Club visit to West Bridgford Pitch up and Play recruitment event at Derby RFC to include Long Eaton, Amber Valley & Buxton Open training/taster sessions at Sleaford, Scunthorpe, Ashfield & Newark W&G forum Universities Development Richard Marelli University of Derby (main campus) Derby continues to be strong, with three Men s BUCS teams and one Women s team. Numbers have been good again allowing a further number of male students to participate outside of the BUCS framework, playing Friday night lights fixtures in conjunction with the two local Link clubs (Derby RFC & Belper RFC) Students continue to play weekend rugby at the clubs. The women s club has good numbers and a further development XV is on the cards for next year (depending on a strong intake as per this year) University of Derby (Buxton) Buxton continue to run a men s team, as in previous years, it is strongly rumoured that the Sports courses that currently run at Buxton may be moved to the main campus next year, this may result in Buxton student rugby moving to the main site, leaving no rugby at Buxton. University of Lincoln Only a fresher s team remains after the club/su ban this year, the main two men s
4 teams have been retained and are playing informal local friendly fixtures, however the Fresher s have played and have more fixtures post-christmas, the Student club becomes live and active on the 1 st of February (once the ban is served) Local fixtures and student games will be sought until the end of the season, all three teams are expected to go into BUCS next year. The Women s club remain strong with good links to the local club at Lincoln RFC, with a number of students playing weekend rugby. University of Nottingham (Main campus) Men s & Women s BUCS clubs remain consistent and the touch offer supplements the Intramural programme, IMS remains the focus within UON, facilities on campus are very busy, and the local club links are invaluable to the success of the programme, the programme not only affords students a game on a Wednesday but through the IMS link a further opportunity on a Saturday within the local link club. Rugby remains strong within this University and further growth is dependent on facilities and the good work of the Rugby activator. University of Nottingham (Sutton Bonington) Men s & Women s teams continue to play weekly in local leagues, Though the O2 Touch programme has not been installed here, Touch continues to be popular with good numbers attending weekly sessions. University of Nottingham (GEMS) Men continue to play in the pennant league, with good numbers, the women still train but have not played at match yet this season. University of Nottingham (Medics) the club remains in a strong position, fielding 3 teams on a weekly basis, numbers have increased and retention was strong this year. Nottingham Trent University (main campus) A good fresher s intake along with a new recruitment process has seen a rise in student rugby players, with an increase in IMS teams by 1 x XV side (2 men s XV s), Women s rugby continues to have two teams within BUCS. Nottingham Trent University (Brackenhurst Campus) CRC/URDO efforts to recruit a new Women s club at this campus has proved harder than first thought, with no interest been shown by students, the local club have been approached to see if they have the desire to run a women s team, it is then planned to run some student taster sessions, alongside a touch programme from within the club. The Campus/Club is very close in terms of distance, so getting students to the club is not the issue. Continue to support the committees and clubs to engage and retain students. Run two HE festivals (Area 4 University 10 aside) for Men/Women & Touch Feb & March Organise and run the Student Leadership Academy to recruit/train and develop the new student committees for 2017/2018 season. Continue to work with the Rugby activator at NTU to promote women s rugby at Brackenhurst campus. Support the WRDO to run a PU&P in Derby in Jan 2017, including the students at the UOD. Run a PU&P event at NTU (main campus) to reengage female students, supported by the WRDO/CRC.
