1 Tuckahoe Athletics Spring Review 2018 Tiger Pride Once a Tiger Always a Tiger We are Tuckahoe Girls Varsity Softball: The varsity Softball team went a perfect 8 and 0 this season in their league games, earning a league title. An important key to the success of the team was our bats. There were no holes in our lineup and the opposing pitchers had no choice but to pitch to every hitter. This year we had two girls hit over.500, Maggie O Hare and Jessica Berger, and another six girls hit over.400, Sabrina Rocco, Adriana. Rocco, Julianna Romeo, Dyllan Corrado, Tyler, and Angelina Letizia. Because of this, we scored 246 runs during the regular season. The girls also performed well with their gloves. One of the top plays this year came from our freshman right fielder, Melissa Deane, during the Saturday Rye Neck game. She made a full extension diving catch to end an inning. The biggest play of the year came on senior night when we were up by two runs. There were runners on second and third with two outs. The batter hit a line drive to single to right field where Senior, Sarah O Toole, charged the ball and had to come up throwing home. She made a great throw to Jess at first, who had to make a quick relay to home to save the game. Catcher Sabrina Rocco did not have to move her glove to catch the ball and put the tag on the potential game-tying runner to win the game. Coach McGovern Girls Softball Junior Varsity: Throughout the season the team got better each game. The team would rise to the challenge against better compeititon demonstrated by their wins against Portchester and Valhalla. It was a terrific season of development. The future is bright. -Coach Kruze Modified Girls Softball: The girls worked on fundamentals. The in game experience will lead to the success of the softball program for future years. The girls worked hard every day and always kept their heads up.-coach Cappello
2 Boys Varsity Baseball: The 2018 Tuckahoe Baseball team had a successful varsity season. We were undefeated in our league and became the Section 1 Class C champions. Nine players received All-League recognition and three players were All-Section athletes. Our two captains, Ryan Rockhill and Lino Poli, earned Class C player of the year and Class C pitcher of the year. In addition, Joe Nasti, recovering from an injury, earned Section 1 comeback player of the year. Our team made great improvements from the start of the season to the end. After suffering two back-to-back losses against Hastings and Blind Brook, the Tigers came together and went 12-2 for the remainder of the regular season. We will build off the success of this team and continue to grow our program in order to reach our ultimate goal of winning the State Championship.-Coach DeFabbia Junior Varsity Boys Baseball: The 2018 Tuckahoe junior-varsity baseball season provided an opportunity for our studentathletes to showcase their abilities. Our 10-win season was highlighted by several key moments. These moments include a 13-2 home victory over Pleasantville late in the year, a 5-4 road win at Blind Brook, an 11-4 road victory at Rye Neck, and a four-game win streak to start the season against Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Solomon Schechter, and Blind Brook. The team was powered by important performances from sophomores Nicholas Bertolozzi, Evan Rivera & Hugh McCorry, freshmen James Galati, Robert Sypher, Anthony Tait, & Sam Gramaglia, 8 th graders Michael Meyers & Peter DeFabbia, and supported by several other key contributors. The Tuckahoe junior-varsity baseball team managed to remain competitive game in and game out while developing daily as student-athletes. The future is bright for Tuckahoe baseball.-coach Bendlin
3 Modified Boys Baseball: The team had a lot of fun and showed great improvement throughout the year. The boys showed great commitment and effort in practice throughout the season. -Coach Parente Varsity Golf: The Golf team started out the season with 3 straight wins this year. As the season progressed, the athletes continued to shoot lower scores while some athletes had posted their personal best s. -Coach Sweeney Spring Track: The track teams had a terrific building season. This year Tuckahoe had record breaking numbers in track participants. We will continue to build and develop our track athletes. The future is very bright for the track program. 4 Varsity Dinner Highlights Tuckahoe High School s Best and Brightest Athletes On June 5 th, the Tuckahoe High School Athletic Department honored its most celebrated athletes of the school year at the school s annual Varsity Dinner and Hall of Fame Awards ceremony. The evening event, which was held at Mulino s at the Lake Isle Country Club, also included the induction of THS 2003 graduate Jennifer Cirrincione to the Tuckahoe Hall of Fame by her former teammate and Cottle teacher Amy Del Savio. Before the induction, Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics, Austin Goldberg, described Ms. Cirrincione as one of the most decorated female athletes that Tuckahoe has ever had. He said she thrived in many sports but softball was the one she received the most accolades for. Her former teammates and coaches often described her as the face of Tuckahoe softball during one of its most dominant periods of time and a source of motivation and confidence. The best part of the night for me was watching our younger student athletes listen to Jennifer speak, added Mr. Goldberg. I hope that she inspires many in that room to be up at that podium in the future. Director of Health, PE & Athletics with Hall of Fame inductee Jennifer Cirrincione, and Tuckahoe Teacher Amy Del Savio. Students, coaches and the various high school teams were recognized for their accomplishments at the event.
