3 AUCKLAND CAR CLUB CLUB ROOMS 44 Stoddard Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland Licensed Bar, Lounge, Large Screen TV Regular Club Night The club rooms are open every Thursday night from 7:30pm until 10:30pm. License examiners are usually available to assist new Members with license exams. Several members of the Executive Committee are usually available to discuss any issues or provide assistance. Club Rooms Hire Rates The Members Lounge is available for hire for special events such as birthday or anniversary parties, meetings, bingo/housie, quiz nights, training courses, etc. The Members Lounge has a fully equipped bar and a small food preparation and serving area. Special hire rates are available for Club Members. Commercial organisations and community groups receive discounts for multiple events or long-term commitments. 4 AUCKLAND CAR CLUB PRESIDENT S LETTER Hi All Well the next major event for the club is our Annual General Meeting. Don`t forget it is on Thursday 14 July at 7:30pm at the club rooms. Please find details in this magazine and on our website www aucklandcarclub.org.nz We have also published the clubs race dates for the 2016/2017 race season. Unfortunately, we have already had good old Motorsport NZ with the new promoter dump a purposely high profile race meeting, which forms part of the national race series clash with our meeting at Puke in March, a date that we have raced for years on and we use the full Pukekohe back straight and last season we included the Production Series 1 hour race on that date as well. It annoys me that all the Auckland and surrounding clubs get together and chaired by the Area Steward go through the Calendar so to prevent date clashes also helps spread the use of the Marshals. Motorsport NZ or the new promoter didn`t even give us a courtesy of a call, we had to contact them about the clash. They just dump it on you. What does this do for the public? How confusing is it to them when there are two high profile race meetings in the same area on the same day? Our officials/marshals who do a mighty job just get stretched too far when things like this happen. We have also got proposed dates for the 2017/2018 dates sorted out and will have them out shortly. Another event coming up soon is the 2016 Speedshow at ASB Show grounds in Epsom. We will have a stand there with an interesting car from the past there. Come along and see and catch up with old friends. The show gets better every year. Lastly our tenant has reopened their new revamped restaurant upstairs and the club around the bottom has been repainted. Till next time Ted Jarvis President

5 THE COUNTDOWN IS ON! HAMPTON DOWNS 101 TICKETS GO ON SALE The Australian GT Series headlines the Hampton Downs 101 from October There will be a feast of entertainment on and off the track. Tickets went on sale last week on Ticketmaster. Early bird pricing is available now and there will be free parking at the event. There s also FREE entry for under-16s when accompanied by an adult so it will be a family friendly event. The latest Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren race cars will contest the Hampton Downs 101 over 101 laps of the new 4km circuit. There ll be a Top 10 shootout on Saturday and the event will also feature Central Muscle Cars, the fast and fun Aussie Racing Cars series and drift superstar Mad Mike Whiddett. See the $4.3m Highlands Vulcan up close and personal while the kids are kept entertained in the mega family zone. The Hampton Downs 101 is part of the Australian Endurance Championship, a new fourrace series introduced by the Australian GT Championship this year. The GT Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious motorsport events in Australia and globally GT racing is growing in popularity every year. Some of the cars that will race around Hampton Downs include: the Audi R8 LMS, Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Ferrari 458 and 488 GT3, McLaren 650S, Lamborghini Huracan and Gallardo, Mercedes AMG and GTS GT3, Porsche 911 GT3, BMW M6 and Z4 GT3 and the Nissan GTR GT3. The 1.2km track extension has resulted in an international grand prix circuit with a 4km stretch of tarmac. There will be new sheltered viewing areas and a new bar and restaurant with decking overlooking the racetrack.

Newsletter Editor The club is looking for an Editor for the club s newsletter. The newsletter is issued monthly and is currently put together using Microsoft Word. A small honorarium is offered. LEADFOOT FESTIVAL & 5 FEBRUARY 2017 The Leadfoot Festival is a unique weekend scheduled for 6th and 7th February 2016, bringing together a mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles and motorsport legends. Tickets are offered to the general public with an invitation to Rod and Shelly Millen s private grounds at Leadfoot Ranch. The 150 acre, ocean-front estate in Hahei on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula features a long driveway that winds through the property designed to be the perfect hill climb. Guests are given one of a kind experiences featuring unparalleled access to the competitors, pits and race vehicles. The Leadfoot Festival is designed for men and women, boys and girls. Visitors dress in period style clothing to step back in time making the Leadfoot Festival an incredible family experience and a true celebration of motorsports and all things automotive. The selection of machinery on Leadfoot Ranch will include a spectacular array of some the world s finest competition cars and motorcycles. From classic formula and road race cars to off-road machines and vintage motorcycles, the Leadfoot Festival attracts competitors and race cars reminiscent of many eras in an enthusiastic display of speed, style, sound, smell and colour. Rod Millen personally hand selects championship racers from around the world to receive the coveted invitation to participate in the Leadfoot Festival. A collection of static celebrated vintage cars and bikes will line areas of the paddocks to complete the weekend.

Race4Life Trust Fund Raiser Breakfast with Tony Quinn Race4Life has been given the opportunity by Paper Plus Remuera, Meadowbank, Glenfield and Browns Bay - to host a breakfast for the launching of Tony Quinn s book, Zero to 60. The event will take place on August 12th at the Ellerslie Event Centre, 7am-9am. All guests will receive a copy of Tony s book, 'Zero to 60', a hearty breakfast and a morning of entertainment. 10 The winners of the 1 hour race at Pukekohe 19 June are as follows: Group A 1st - Mark Crompton - BMW E30 2nd Steve Vodanovich - Toyota MR2 3rd Rob Wolff - BMW E30 Group B 1st - John Stewart - Honda Intergra 2nd - Matt Gisbson - Ssangyong ute Group C 1st Colin Jones - BMW E36 2nd Graham Ball BMW E36 Overall winner - Colin Jones BMW E36 - total number of laps 49 The flag winner was Tony Clarke in the Fraser who did 51 laps but broke out 39 times. Tony's fastest lap was a 1:07:24 and our break out time was 1:09.00 which resulted in him getting a time penalty of 6mins and 50 seconds. After this was applied Tony finished 9th. Marty Irvine was very quick and was going well in 2nd place at the half way mark until a huge moment coming up over the hill which resulted in a spin and a slight nose kiss of the wall. Marty was able to continue until later on his new car failed and a DNF finish but for the first time out in this new car it really showed some great pace and one to watch for next season for sure. Peter Ball has some bad luck on his first lap of the day a head gasket failure but Peter's son, Graham Ball offered to share his car in the 1 hour race. John Stewart will be a Group B contender with a freshly built Honda Intergra. Jtune have done the magic with this car and the results are very impressive a class win and 3rd overall on the day John's fastest lap time was a 1:11.8. The Ssangyong Ute driven by Matt Gisbson was a first for Production Race Series but we hope that it will not be the last. Matt did a great job in the turns showing that these Ssangyong Utes are not just something that gets in the way. Matt finished 2nd in Group B with a total of 44 laps completed in the 1 hour. Colin Jones was the overall winner on the day and showed that being quick every lap is what matters he consistently lapped at 1:11 on the old Pukekohe circuit and was able to get past traffic with little fuss. The Production Race Series consists of 6 rounds during the summer months; 3 at Hampton Downs, 3 at Pukekohe and a bonus round at Taupo this coming season. To be eligible to run with us the car must have Production Tyres - must be to WOF standard (if you are unsure please check with us before running) along with a Sport Seat and a minimum 4 point harness. Break out times need to be adhered to, to ensure close racing - everything else is open. Definitely a class for new drivers or simply modified cars, looking to change it up.
