Kevin Kramer gave Indy a - lead in the second with his fifth long ball of the season, but the home team rallied against Holmes in the bottom half with four runs, three coming on a bases-clearing triple by Eddy Alvarez. Charlotte then added two more runs in the fourth to go up 6-. Pablo Reyes brought Indy closer with sacrifice flies in both the fifth and ninth innings. Wyatt Mathisen finished with a game-high three hits from the eighth spot in Indy's order. Holmes was charged with six runs on nine hits in six innings of work, dropping to 2-3 on the season. Tanner Anderson allowed a solo homer to Jacob May in the eighth, the first dinger he's surrendered since Sept., 27 with Double-A Altoona against Harrisburg. MEMORIAL DAY DEFEAT: The Indians have now played 2 games on Memorial Day in the Victory Field era, accumulating a 9- record overall. Away from home, they are an even 6-6 with yesterday's 7-5 loss included. The Tribe have won just one in their last six Memorial Day contests, being outscored by a total of 9 runs in that stretch. TYLER TIME: Tyler Eppler gets the nod tonight in the homestand opener. He has simply dominated opposing teams at The Vic since the start of the 27 season. Last year, he went 6- with a 2.7 ERA (22 ER/73. IP) in games ( starts); this year, he's 3- with a.33 ERA ( ER/27.2 IP) in five games (four starts) at home. His last home outing came on May 2 vs. Louisville (6.ip, h, r, bb, 9k - Win, -). In 9 games (5 starts) all-time at Victory Field, the 25-year-old is 9- with a 2.5 ERA (23 ER/. IP). MATHISEN MASHING: Wyatt Mathisen led the Indians with three hits (two doubles) in yesterday's loss at Charlotte, marking the seventh two-double game of his career and first since April 2, 27 with Double-A Altoona at Richmond. He is now batting.395 (5-for-38) with one homer, six doubles and seven RBI in 3 games with the Tribe; he hit.385 (-for-26) with one homer, one triple, three doubles and five RBI in 25 games with Altoona. He has 25 knocks in 6 at-bats this season, good for a.39 average. MEMORABLE WEEKEND FOR KRAMER: Kevin Kramer went 6-for- (.29) with a home run, double, three RBI and three runs scored in four games at Charlotte, raising his average from.28 to.263 over the weekend. In the four home games against Louisville prior to the Memorial Day Weekend series, Kramer went -for-5 with two walks and six strikeouts. He is batting.293 (27-for-92) with four of his five homers this season coming on the road; his average at home in 2 games is just.228 (8-for-79). GOOD VS. GWINNETT: Three Indians raked against Gwinnett earlier this month at The Vic. Jordan Luplow went 5-for-8 (.625), Jose Osuna batted.5 (5-for-) and Pablo Reyes collected four hits in nine at-bats (.). The Tribe as a team, however, hit just.25 (29-for-) in that four-game split against the Stripers. DIGGING FOR SECOND: The Indians have bashed 25 doubles this season, good for the top mark in the league. Syracuse () and Toledo () have both eclipsed the century mark in two-baggers this year, as well. The Tribe are averaging 2.6 doubles per game, putting them on pace for 365 doubles. The franchise record for doubles in a season is 378, set over a 66-game season in 93. The Victory Field era record for doubles in a season is 299, accomplished in both 998 and 2. Indy also led the IL in doubles in 27 with 279. MAY DAY: Kevin Newman has 3 hits since May 8, tied for the most in Triple-A with Toledo's Ronny Rodriguez. The total also places him in a tie for fourth in all of professional baseball. Newman is batting.38 (38-for-99) through 25 games in May, as he tries to become just the fourth player since 25 to post an average at or above. (min. 75 ABs) for an entire month. He needs five more knocks to match Josh Bell's record 3 hits set in June 26. SETTING THE BAR: The Indians lead the IL in average (.275) and doubles (25). They also rank second in OBP (.337) and are tied for second in slugging percentage (.7) and triples (3). Plus, they rank third in fewest strikeouts (36) and fourth in stolen bases (38) and runs scored ( runs per game). TERRIFIC TRIO: Johnny Hellweg, Tanner Anderson and Dovydas Neverauskas have dominated IL opposition since April 7. The trio has combined for saves and a.6 ERA ( ER/59. IP) since that date. They've yielded just hits and 9 walks with 53 strikeouts, posting a.99 WHIP along the way. WHAT A RELIEF: Indy's bullpen overall in May has been spectacular, posting a collective 2.27 ERA (25 ER/99. IP). Indians relievers have combined for 2 saves, holds and a 2.92 ERA this season. LAST ROAD TRIP Games ERA 3.27 (2 ER/33.
