The fee schedule will remain the same: Majors/Minors = $50 adult (plate) & $20 for youth (base) AA/Farm = $25 and Page 4 of 8
will work alone. Some comparative costs; Thompsonville $10 base + $25 plate or $35 alone; SEBU (Super East Baseball Umpires) / Nutmeg Umpires - $50 (plate); East Granby - $15/$25, $20/$25, $25/$35 In 2013 Bill had youth sign up for umpiring, this year we had 30 youths sign up. We need to develop a consistent and easy feedback process regarding umpires. 10. Sponsorships Donna Dyer We have 32 team sponsors and 25 sign sponsors, 8 of which are new. The Friends of Suffield historically have donated approximately $ for a number of special projects. They are willing to donate again this year. The SB Field (Field#3) is in desperate need of a portable scoreboard. When not in use at Field #3 could serve a second purpose at Field #2 for All-Stars (Tournament) tournament games. We hope to the Friends of Suffield will assist in the funding. An Amiel P. Zak Grant request has been submitted for $5K. 11. Home Run Derby (Fri., May 9) We have a new coordinator - Liz McGann. The overall plan is to use the same format as 2012 (2013 cancelled rained out). The HRD will have three skills challenges, broken up into groups by division, running the bases, throwing to a target from a predetermined distance and home-runs. Winners and runner-up of each skill acquire points, total point winner can win all-round trophy. Liz is reaching out for assistance. 12. Golf tournament (Sat., May 17) Nothing new to report. Venue still set for Airways with dinner at Three Figs. Details to follow soon. 13. BB Majors Sponsors This year we have a unique situation. We have 4 kids each with a parent looking to sponsor a team in majors, and one sponsor who will only sponsor a major s team. Each would like to sponsor the team their son is on, naturally. The question was Page 5 of 8
raised- in order to keep the sponsors happy, do we alter the draft process to allow for the sponsors to sponsor they child s team. The answer is no. The draft process must take place organically and by the rules. Let the sponsors fall into position post draft, based on seniority (history). 14. Opening Day Sat April 26 Games to be scheduled for this day around the ceremony. Baseball plans to request Dan Sullivan to throw out the first pitch and the catcher to be the last grandchild of the Christian family to play at Christian Fields, Ryan Lancioni. Softball to be determined. Bill Baril to speak to Dan Sullivan re first pitch. ***As of 3/17 and Wayne Lancioni, Mr. Sullivan has agreed to throw out the first pitch (Baseball) 15. Baseball Coach Clinic - Sat Mar 22 A coached clinic (free) will be taught by Paul Winiarski. There will be two separate clinics; Instructional, Farm at 9-10:30am then AAA, Majors, and Juniors from 11-12:30pm. 90 minute clinics with a half hour cushion just in case. Details are posted on the SLL Website. 16. Coaches Meeting & Safety Training Mar. 24, SMS Cafe A coaches meeting with Safety and First Aid (by Danielle Marenco) will take place on 6pm. Guest speaker Michael Bidwell from Integrated Rehabilitation Services will discuss warm-ups and techniques. To be reviewed will SLL Rule changes as well as any LL National rule changes. Team Parent responsibilities as well as the Volunteer Bond requirements, fulfillment and reimbursement procedures to be reviewed. Page 6 of 8
17. Scholarships All the scholarship information and forms have been posted on the SLL website. From the home screen, follow the tab on the left hand side to Scholarship Program 18. Field Improvements George Krar was unavailable to comment. The new soil has arrived at the Farm Field but needs to be spread and groomed. 19. Suffield Academy Baseball Camp The Suffield Academy Baseball Camp run by Brian Bissette is no longer part of the Suffield Little League but will still take place at the Suffield Academy Campus. Brian has in the past generously donated a large percentage of the proceeds to the SLL. The dates will be posted on the website which are 7/14-18 & 7/ Another possibility mentioned is the Cressotti Baseball school in Enfield, dates have not been published. 20. New business PMC Kids Ride Christos NiKolus from Christos restaurant has asked if we would consider hanging a sign for the PMC Kids Ride, a Jimmy Fund event. See for details. It was approved to allow the PMC to hang the signs. Chip Dyer proposed to split the cleanup day - use 2 days a small group on 3/29 and a large group of volunteers on 4/5. It was agreed this would be a good plan of action. Regarding interleague play We have decided to have Interleague play at the Majors level only. We will be moving forward with East Windsor LL for these additional games. We have experienced the inability to have regular and consistent communication with East Granby LL for coordination and have moved on for the spring. ***UPDATE This has changed to include AAA Baseball division as well. Page 7 of 8
Heidi Crocker will assume the role of Team Parent Coordinator since it ties closely to volunteer efforts. Bill Baril spoke with Scott Dunn, the Spaulding school principal this morning and he is on board for the town to fix up the field behind Spaulding School. As long as there is no expense to the school to upkeep it. Field use requests have been submitted to the Town of Suffield Park and Recreation for Bruce Park, McAllister, Spaulding and the Bridge Street School. Submitted by Michael Marmo Suffield Little League - Secretary Page 8 of 8
