The final act of a brief, five-game homestand gets underway for Oklahoma baseball Tuesday night at 6:00 pm against Oral Roberts at L. Dale Mitchell Park. About the Sooners... Through the first four weeks of the season, the Sooners own a 12-6 overall record and have won nine of their last 11 games. Junior center fielder Craig Aikin remains a constant in the OU lineup as he has hit in 29 out of 30 games dating back to last season, including his current 12-game hit streak. He leads Oklahoma with a.397 batting average, followed by sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse (.343). Neuse is tops in the Big 12 with 22 RBI and leads the Sooners with five home runs and a.627 slugging percentage. A total of five players are hitting.300-or-better. Redshirt-senior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (.320) and juniors Kolbey Carpenter (.317) and Anthony Hermelyn (.304) round out the group. The OU pitching staff owns a collective 2.81 earned run average. Redshirt-Junior lefty Adam Choplick (1-1) holds a 2.51 ERA to go with 15 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. On the Air... Releases, statistics and schedule updates can be found at SoonerSports.com HEAD COACH PETE HUGHES Pete Hughes was named the ninth head baseball coach in program history on June 27, Twice named both the New England Coach of the Year and the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, as well as the 2000 American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Hughes owns a well-deserved reputation for setting new standards of excellence at every stop during his 17-year coaching career. Hughes recorded five straight 30-win seasons at Virginia Tech, including a pair of 40-win campaigns that culminated with NCAA Tournament berths in 2010 and He inherited a club that hadn t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2000 and went on to compile a (.561) record in seven seasons with the Hokies from In 18 seasons as a head coach, Hughes owns a career record of (.572), including his stints at Boston College ( ) and Trinity University ( ). Hughes graduated from Davidson College in 1990 where he played third base on the baseball team and quarterback for the Wildcats football team. Oral Roberts is coming off a four-game series-sweep against Dallas Baptist at home to enter at 6-7. The Golden Eagles look to first baseman Anthony Sequeira, who leads the team with a.432 batting average, 19 hits and 11 runs. Catcher Audie Afenir ranks second with a.357 average and 10 runs scored. On the mound, Bryce Howe (0-0) is scheduled to get the start. He has pitched one-scoreless innings with one strikeout in his rookie campaign. Last Time They Met... The Golden Eagles shut out the Sooners for the second time in 2014 with a 2-0 win on April 8 in Norman. Pepe Gomez tossed four-scoreless innings in the win for ORU as Tyler Boss went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Golden Eagles score a run in the third and fourth inning. Dating back to 1970, OU holds the series lead at Last year, Oklahoma fell twice to Oral Roberts in a home-and-home series. Previously the Sooners were on a five-game win streak. Five of the past six meetings were decided by three runs or fewer. OU s largest winning margin came in 2000 when the Sooners beat the Golden Eagles 15-2 in Houston. For the Record... Aikin s home run was the first of his career as he set career marks in both runs scored and driven in. Kings of the K... The Sooner pitching staff leads the Big 12 with 165 strikeouts; averaging a league-best 9.28 per nine innings, which is a full 1.00 strikeout more per nine than the next closest team. Sophomore right-hander Alec Hansen struck out 12 vs. Oregon State (2/22) and leads the league with 32. Tied for second in the Big 12 is sophomore RHP Jake Elliott at 27. Neuse Statement Heard... Neuse claimed the Sooners fourth weekly award from the Big 12 after being named the Player of the Week (3/9). He hit.688 (11-for-16) with a slugging and.722 on-base percentage. Neuse homered three times, drove in 10 runs and scored eight over a four-game stretch at home. He posted a perfect 4-for-4 day with a home run and a double against Purdue (3/7). As a freshman, Neuse was twice selected as the Big 12 Rookie of the Week in 2014.

Since 1962, Oklahoma is on opening day and 24-2 when playing the first game of the season at home, including 23-1 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. All-time in home openers, the Sooners are 49-5 going back to 1962, including 33-1 at L. Dale Mitchell. #YardWork... Oklahoma is well on its way to surpassing its 30-home run total from Through 18 games, the Sooners have gone yard 21 times, including a team-leading five from Neuse, who has homered in four of the last five games. Opening the Gates... Oklahoma s opening weekend attendance set a record for the first series of the season at 4,181. Value in Utility... Junior Anthony Hermelyn has seen a drastic change in his responsibilities from his freshman season when he started 48 games behind the dish. As a sophomore he split time between catcher and first base. This season he has added third base to his defensive duties as he earned starts at all three positions opening weekend. On the Hill... The OU pitching staff was tasked with replacing nearly 60% of its innings pitched from 2013 after losing five pitchers to the draft. This season, the Sooners return 74% of innings pitched from a year ago. Utility Blue Print... Junior Kolbey Carpenter has been a steady performer in two-plus seasons at OU. He has appeared in games at five different positions and has started every opening day since his freshman season at a different position; 1B, DH, 2B. Starting in Center Field... Aikin has started all 18 games in center field; the only Sooner to start every game at the same position.
