The Lancers play 12 of their remaining 16 games on the road. The Last Time Out Longwood hosted the top team in the Big South, but the Lancers were swept by first-place Campbell. Longwood played Campbell even Friday night in the latter part of the game, but a 4-0 early lead turned to a 8-4 Campbell win. Campbell took Saturday, 15-1, and Sunday by a 6-2 final.

Morgan tossed a complete game shutout, Longwood s first since Aaron Myers did it against Ohio University in Morgan struck out 13 batters and allowed just five base runners. Morgan leads the Big South with a.192 batting average against. THE NINE LIVES OF CATLIN Michael Catlin, who has gone between the bullpen and starting rotation throughout his career, made his mark as a starting pitcher to begin Catlin picked up his first quality start with 6.0 innings of one-run ball in his second win of the season March 10. Catlin moved back to the bullpen during the series against High Point, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings for the save Catlin got his second save with 2.2 innings of one-hit, scoreless ball and four K s at Charleston Southern March 30. POWER PLAY Longwood is on a home run kick as of late with 14 of its 16 home runs on the season coming in the last 16 games. The Lancers are 7-9 in that stretch. Sammy Miller hit a game-tying homer against Radford and then hit a grand slam the following Tuesday against VMI, his first two career homers. Nate Blakeney picked up his first two home runs the week starting April 9. Antwaun Tucker, Blakeney, and Justin Mitchell combined for Longwood s first three-homer game of the season in the series finale against UNC Asheville, a 5-0 win. Mitchell went deep again with a solo shot against James Madison and had three homers in the course of two weeks. WALK-OFF THIS WAY Longwood picked up its first walkoff win of the year when Nate Blakeney hit a walk-off single against Niagara on February 24. Blakeney did it again with a walk-off RBI on a fielder s choice in game one of a doubleheader against Radford April 8. WE LIKE THAT JAWN Redshirt-junior Jawan McAllister belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning of the middle game of the series at Charleston Southern. Trailing 5-4 and with Ryan Shull in scoring position, McAllister turned around an offering that proved to be the game-winning two-run homer. QUALITY ASSURANCE Longwood has posted seven quality starts on the season with Cody Boydstun posting three in his first season as a starter. All three starting pitchers - Steven Farkas, Boydstun, and Michael Catlin - each picked up quality starts in the weekend series against Iona that began March 9. The three starting pitchers averaged 7.0 innings, one run, and seven strikeouts for the series. Farkas and Tyler Morgan each collected quality starts in shutout wins against UNC Asheville. Farkas struck out a school record 14 batters in 7.0 scoreless innings on April 13. After Farkas gem, Morgan struck out 13 batters in a complete game shutout for his first career quality start. PLAYING THE HIT RECORDS Longwood scored a season-high 15 runs in its win against UNC Asheville in game one on April 14. In that game the Lancers set season highs in runs (15), RBI (15), doubles (5), triples (2), and total bases (27). The Lancers set the season high with three home runs in game two of the doubleheader. APRIL POWERS Sammy Miller went 3-for-5 against James Madison, continuing his torrid pace in April. Miller is hitting.400 (16-for-40) with three doubles, his first two career homers, 10 RBI and 17 runs scored, plus 17 walks. Grant Keller is hitting.387 (12-for- 31) this April with a pair of doubles, seven RBI, and a.537 OBP Longwood Baseball

4 BAPTIZED IN FIRE 11 Lancers made their Longwood debuts in the weekend series at Auburn, with eight freshmen and three transfers getting into the action on the road against an SEC opponent. Junior outfielder Jawan McAllister, a transfer from Pittsburgh, made his Longwood debut, starting all three games and going 2-for-8 in the series. Eli Mercado, a transfer from Olive- Harvey College, started all three games in the weekend series and scored Longwood s lone run Saturday. Freshman outfielder Jack Schnell picked up his first career hit at Auburn, starting all three games of the series. Junior outfielder Eric Crain, a transfer from Morehead State, picked up three at-bats off the bench. Freshman outfielder Jake Jansen entered Saturday s game as a defensive replacement and picked up his first career at-bat against Auburn. Freshman right-hander Tyler Knapp made his Longwood debut out of the bullpen Saturday, tossing a scoreless inning in relief. Freshman righty Tommy Green was called upon Friday and struck out five batters in 2.0 innings of work. Freshman right-hander Maceo Campbell made his collegiate debut Saturday at Auburn, lasting 1.2 innings. Todd Moxey, a freshman righthander, made his first career appearance Saturday at Auburn. Freshman southpaw Daniel Brandon made his Longwood debut on the road at Auburn in Saturday s game two. CALL FROM THE HALL It was hardly a bold move when legendary Longwood baseball coach Charles Buddy Bolding was inducted into the Longwood Athletics Hall of Fame February 3, 2018, becoming the sixth representative of Longwood baseball to join the Hall of Fame. Coach Bolding s name is synonymous with Longwood baseball, having built the program from the ground and carrying the flag as Longwood transitioned from Division III all the way to its first season in the Big South in 2013, his final at the helm. Bolding amassed a record during his career as head coach and took Longwood to the Division II College World Series in 1982 and again in Under Bolding longwood made six NCAA Division II Regionals. His 953 career wins are the most of any Longwood coach in nearly 100 years of Longwood athletics history. During Bolding s 35-year tenure he coached five All-Americans, nine Major League Baseball Draft Picks, and six Virginia College Players of the Year. The program also produced four Academic All-Americans during Bolding s career, which are also the most of any Longwood program. Bolding joins five other Longwood baseball honorees in the Longwood Athletics Hall of Fame. GOT HEEM Steven Farkas struck out 12 batters in 6.0 scoreless innings March 9 against Iona and then struck out a program-record 14 against UNC Asheville on April 13. Farkas is second in the Big South with 73 strikeouts. Tyler Morgan struck out 13 in the series finale against UNC Asheville April 14, tossing a complete game shutout. The Lancers are second in the Big South with 365 as a team in Longwood led the Big South with 511 punchouts in 2017, breaking the previous school D-I record of 440. JOINING THE ACTION Freshmen Dominic Diaz and Jake Jansen each had career firsts at Winthrop. Diaz made his first appearance and Jansen picked up his first hit on an RBI single in the finale. WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Former Lancer stars - right-handed pitcher Aaron Myers, outfielder Kyri Washington, and Michael Osinski - each left their marks on the Longwood baseball program with Osinski leading the 2017 team in hitting, Washington leading the Big South in home runs in 2015, and Myers setting the Longwood school records in strikeouts, saves, and innings pitched. Each player has moved on to play professional baseball, where they join former Lancer arm, righthanded pitcher Mark Montgomery. Montgomery currently is in the Tigers organization with Triple-A Toledo. Myers ended 2017 in the Orioles system, but has since been released. Washington and Osinski are each in the Red Sox organization, Washington in Class A Advanced Salem, Osinski in Class A Greenville. Myers spent three seasons in the Brewers organization after making the team as a non-drafted free agent in Myers pitched with the Rookie League AZL Brewers in 2015 and posted a 1.74 ERA in seven appearances out of the bullpen and picked up three saves in three opportunities with 14 strikeouts and no walks across 10.1 innings of work. In 2016 Myers went 4-1 with a 1.44 ERA across 43.2 innings pitched with 55 strikeouts to 11 walks. The right-hander began with the AZL Brewers and was called up to the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League, where he spent the majority of his season. With the Helena Brewers Myers went 3-1 in 11 appearances with a 1.38 ERA and struck out 44 batters with seven walks in 32.2 innings pitched. The Newport News, Va., native finished his Longwood career with a 2.93 ERA across career innings with 319 strikeouts to just 113 walks. Washington, the number 22 prospect in the Red Sox system according to MLB Pipeline, was promoted to the Class A Advanced Salem Red Sox before the start of the season and sits one level below Double-A. Washington only played three years at Longwood, but made a strong impact and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2015 draft. Washington began his pro career in Rookie Ball with the GCL Red Sox before making it to Short Season A-Ball with the Lowell Spinners. Between the two levels Washington hit.263 with nine doubles, one triple, 22 RBI, and his first professional home run in In 2016 Washington had massive success with the Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League, where he spent the entire season. Washington was voted Greenville Drive player of the year after hitting.262 with 16 home runs, 45 extra-base hits, and 73 RBI in 103 games played. In his first full professional season Washington ended the season with a.487 slugging percentage and.810 OPS. The Prospect, Va., native hit.263 with 28 career home runs, 44 doubles, two triples and 123 career RBI for the Blue & White. Montgomery spent 2017 in the Cardinals system w/ Triple-A Memphis. Montgomery, a native of Williamsburg, Va., spent his first six years in the New York Yankees organization after the Yankees took him in the 11th round of the 2011 draft. Montgomery posted a 2.56 ERA in 33 appearances, all out of the bullpen, between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes- Barre and Double-A Trenton in 2016 and owns a career 2.33 ERA. Montgomery struck out 63 batters with 22 walks in 45.2 innings of work in 2016 and was a part of the Triple-A Champion Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Osinski was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2017, Boston s 31st-round pick in the June First-Year Player Draft. After just three games in the Gulf Coast League, the rookie received his first professional advancement on July 2. Osinski was a consistent player at Longwood, hitting.298 in three seasons, playing 163 games with 161 starts as the everyday shortstop for the Lancers. Osinski made the 2016 Big South All-Tournament team and was selected to Perfect Game s 2017 All-Big South Preseason Team. Osinski led Longwood with a.308 batting average, 14 doubles, and 36 RBI his junior year. In his first professional season, Osinski hit.259 in 44 games with 11 extra-base hits and 14 RBI. Osinski was a.261 hitter with Lowell after becoming an everyday player. WELCOME TO THE WOOD! The Lancers added seven freshmen to the roster for 2017, highlighting one of the deepest classes under Ryan Mau Mau s third full recruiting class features three players from the Virginia and Washington, D.C., area including the top player from the D.C. area, right-hander Maceo Campbell. Righthanded pitchers Tommy Green and Tyler Knapp round out the haul of local talent, while left-handed pitcher Daniel Brandon (West Virginia), outfielder Jack Schnell (New York), Todd Moxey (Pennsylvania), and infielder Kaleb Fold (Ohio) represent four other states to bring a larger national presence to the signing class Longwood Baseball
