The Lady Vols are 51-8 the last two year in home games. Family ties this weekend with the Weeklys Granddaughter Taylor playing for Toledo and batting a.214 Tennessee is ranked No. 5 in the NFCA Preseason Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the USA Softball Preseason Top 25. Tennessee is currently 4-0 against teams ranked in the top 25 in either USA Today/NFCA and the ESPN/USA Softball poll. Tennessee was picked to finish second in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing in a tie for third last season. UT puts its impressive winning streak against in-state foes on the line with in games against Tennessee State, Memphis and East Tennessee State later this year. The Vols have won 92 straight games against fellow Tennessee schools and are 87-0 against such schools under Ralph & Karen Weekly. Tennessee has recorded 117 strikeouts this season and lead the SEC in strikeouts looking with 33 lead by Caylan Arnold who has 21. The Lady Vols are a combined 5-0 all-time against their opponents this weekend. The Lady Vols return 17 letterwinners and seven positional starters from 2017, including five players who earned SEC postseason honors. Based on the NFCA ranking this is the Lady Vols first time since 2014 ranked in the top 5 in the NFCA Coaches Poll. The Vols have been ranked for 917 straight games, a streak that started back on Feb. 17, UT has a record during that span. Tennessee in Top 5 Tennessee is back where it belongs in the top 5 of the NCFA Coaches Poll. The Lady Vols were last in the top 5 in 2014 when they started the season as the No. 1 team. Tennessee held the top spot for the first week of the season but they reminded int he top 5 for 11 straight weeks. Arnold & Moss Pitchers Caylan Arnold and Matty Moss are two of the top pitchers in the nation. Arnold is seventh in the nation and second in the SEC in strikeouts with 73. If you blink you could catching you while your looking. She has struck-out 21 batters while they were looking with is top in the SEC. Moss is second in the nation in victories and tied for first in the SEC with either wins. She is also eighth in the nations in saves and also tied for first with two. Leading Things Off Aubrey Leach has a.529 on base percentage as the lead off bater for the Lady Vols. Leach is tied for first in the SEC in runs scored with 23 and she second in the conference in walks with 16 and have more plate appearances than anyone int he SEC with 68 She has a batting average of.360 and 18 hits and 5 RBIs and a lead off HR. Non-Conference Success Tennessee is 16-1 in non-conference games. Tennessee Invitational Tennessee has hosted the Tennessee Invitational on four different occasions and they hold a 14-0 mark in the invitational which not to be confused with the Tennessee Classic or the Lady Vols Invitational that was held in the past. Key Returners Tennessee returns 17 letterwinners from last season, including seven positional starters and starting pitcher Matty Moss and 2107 SEC Player of the Year Meghan Gregg. The Vols bring back five players who earned SEC postseason honors in 2017: Meghan Gregg (SEC Player of the Year/1st Team/SEC All Defensive Team), Matty Moss (2nd Team), Brooke Vines (2nd Team), Caylan Arnold (SEC Freshman of the Year/Freshman Team) and Chelsea Seggern (Freshman Team) Preseason All-SEC selection Megan Gregg also returns for the Vols after leading the team with 73 hits, 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 79 RBIs last season. Sophomores who are expected to have a bigger role this season include P Caylan Arnold and IF Chelsea Seggern. Other key returners include P Matty Moss, OF CJ McClain, UT Scarlet McSwain, IF Aubrey Leach and OF Jenna Holcomb. Senior Studs Lady Vols seniors Meghan Gregg, Scarlet McSwain and CJ McClain come up big in nonconference play as Tennessee has started As a group they scored 33 runs and had 40 RBIs and 51 hits to start the season. They also had 7-home runs with 40 RBI s. Sophomore Caylan Arnold leads the Lady Vols with 73 K s, which is good enough for second in the SEC and on away from being at the top. Arnold is ranked 7th in the nation in total strikeouts with 73 total in Review Tennessee advanced to their 14th straight NCAA Tournament and 15th overall last season. They also hosted their 13th consecutive regional. The Vols were nearly unbeatable at home in 2016, posting a 24-3 record overall and a 22-1 mark during the regular season. UT boasted a potent offense, finishing eighth in the nation in scoring at 6.37 runs per game. The Vols also finished eighth nationally in on-base percentage and 19th in batting average. Meghan Gregg was name NFCA All-American and SEC Player of the Year while Caylan Arnold was selected as SEC Freshman of the Year. Meghan Gregg, Matty Moss and Brooke Vines were named All-SEC while Caylan Arnold and Chelsea Seggern were named to the All- Freshman Team. Home Sweet Home to Me Tennessee finished their regular-season home slate with a 23-4 record, one of the best in the NCAA. The Vols ended up 27-6 at home including the regular season and postseason. The Vols outscored their opponents at home and won 10 of their 33 games by run rule. UT finished with an 8-3 SEC record at home, including three-game series No. 23 Ole Miss. The Vols also took two games from No. 9 Alabama before the third was rained out. Tennessee was 9-5 vs. ranked opponents at home in NFCA Hall of Fame Karen Weekly will be inducted into the 28th class of the NFCA Hall of Fame in December 2018 joining husband Ralph who was inducted in Both Weeklys are members of the 1,000 wins club. Karen is ranked 18th Nationally with 1,025 career wins and Ralph is fourth all-time among Division I softball coaches with 1,303 wins. 2
