2 Event information for Surrey Prudential RideLondon is the world s greatest festival of cycling with 95,000+ cyclists participating in five separate events on trafficfree roads in London and Surrey. Events will take place in central London on Saturday 1 August 2015 and in London and Surrey on Sunday 2 August Prudential RideLondon was developed by the Mayor of London, Transport for London and London & Partners in partnership with Surrey County Council and is sponsored by Prudential. The event is managed by the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership. This booklet contains important information to help you plan your travel around Surrey on Sunday 2 August. Events on Sunday 2 August Prudential RideLondon-Surrey ,000+ amateur cyclists will take on a 100-mile cycle challenge through the closed roads of London and Surrey before finishing on The Mall. Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic the world s best male cyclists will compete in this world-class race through London and Surrey. The race starts in central London before heading into Surrey and returning to London to finish on The Mall. Both events start in London, travelling out of the capital into Surrey s stunning countryside before returning to London for an iconic finish on The Mall. The event routes through Surrey are on page 8. Other Prudential RideLondon events On Saturday 1 August the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle and Grand Prix events take place in central London only (City of London and City of Westminster). For more information about the Prudential RideLondon festival weekend visit 2

3 Road closures on Sunday 2 August On Sunday 2 August there will be an impact on traffic in large parts of London and across Surrey. Roads used by the event will be closed so you ll need to plan your travel in advance. Visit www. PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/roadclosures The roads that make up the route in Surrey will begin to close from. This is to allow for barriers to be installed, safety checks to be carried out and stewards and volunteers to get in place. Temporary rolling road closures Temporary rolling road closures will be used for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic wherever possible in Surrey to reduce the impact of road closures on residents and businesses. Once the last cyclist in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 has passed over Hampton Court Bridge, roads will begin to reopen, through to Forest Green. Later in the afternoon, reopened sections of the route being used for the Prudential RideLondon- Surrey Classic professional race will be managed by rolling road closures. This involves using a motorcycle escort team to temporarily hold traffic while the race passes. This reduces the impact of road closures on residents and businesses. On the rest of the roads used for the event route, it will not be possible to operate rolling road closures due to event timings and these roads will remain closed for the entire event period, with roads reopening as soon as it is safe to do so, after the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic race has passed through. Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic circuits The professional race will undertake a series of circuits of the Surrey Hills. After passing along West Street and South Street in Dorking, first comes a southern circuit of Coldharbour Lane and Leith Hill, a single ascent of the highest point in Surrey. After the descent from Leith Hill, the professionals make three circuits through Dorking High Street, Westhumble, Ranmore Common and Westcott. The race then travels back along Dorking High Street for a fourth and final before heading towards Box Hill. In total the race passes through the Dorking area five s. Riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will cycle up Box Hill once before they take on the final 25 miles of the race from Leatherhead via Oxshott and Esher. Parking If you usually park on a road used for the event, please move your vehicle the night before. Vehicles cannot be parked on the event route from 00:01 on Sunday 2 August. Any vehicle left on the route or parked in a suspended parking bay will be removed from the route. What to do if you need help with access Please plan travel in advance. Call the helpdesk on (Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00) if you have a specific access question or other planning needs. 3
