1 National Course Code: AUR20312 Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology Course aim This course is specifically designed for students seeking a career in the Bicycle Repair Industry Participants will be required to operate within a safe working environment Good customer contact and communication skills are also an important aspect of this qualification This vocation will involve many practical tasks including servicing and repairing components from all bicycle systems including wheels, tyres, suspension, steering, drivetrains, brakes, frames and accessories Some bicycle shops may require employees to have considerable contact with customers, including assessing bicycle for repair, selling parts and accessories and also selling new and possibly used bicycles Other bicycle retailers may prefer their employees to specialize in mechanical work and include more complex skills such as wheel rebuilds, suspension rebuilds, hydraulic brake repairs and repairs and modifications to bicycle frames The course can be structured to meet the needs of the student and specific enterprise and be either mechanical specific or include some sales electives Vocational outcomes The AUR20312 Certificate II in Bicycle Mechanical Technology is intended to prepare new employees or develop existing workers who are performing bicycle service and repair tasks in the bicycle industry Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include: bicycle assembler service technician assistant mechanic bicycle sales assistant Course Structure: To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 16 units of competency, consisting of: 8 core units plus 8 elective units, (up to 3 elective units may be chosen from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training Package, another endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided that the units chosen contribute to the vocational outcome of this qualification and do not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification) CII Bicycle Mechanical Technology Created on 02/06/2014 Version 20 Page 1 of 5
