Mike Rawlings Greetings! As Mayor of Dallas, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to the participants of the second annual Dallas Bike Ride! With the success of Dallas Bike Ride s inaugural event, we are excited to welcome back an event dedicated to the tradition of bicycling and two-wheeled transportation. The Dallas Bikeway System has helped implement more than 180 miles of bike trails and bike lanes, making the city of Dallas a safer and more accessible city for bikers and nonbikers alike. This event is a non-competitive 20-mile ride that provides participants of all ages and biking abilities an opportunity to enjoy a day to ride their bikes on car-free streets in the city. During your ride, I invite you to enjoy all of our diverse neighborhoods, historic sites and all that our great city has to offer. I join the residents of Dallas in wishing you a memorable, joyous, and successful event! Best Regards, Mike Rawlings, Mayor City of Dallas 4

Greg Bibb Welcome to the 2nd Annual Dallas Bike Ride! This is your day to enjoy the heart of North Texas in a unique, carfree environment. We are grateful to be back in the city of Dallas for our 2nd annual event and excited to build on the success of last year s ride. We welcome the diverse spectrum of riders joining us this year (from) throughout the greater Dallas region and across the United States. Along the route, riders will experience the beauty of our great city alongside members of our growing recreational bicycling community. I would like to thank Mayor Rawlings and the entire Dallas City Council, the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department as well as all of the City agencies and offices that have worked to make this event possible. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our founding partners, including VisitDallas, the Dallas Sports Commission, Uptown Dallas Inc. and Downtown Dallas Inc. A sincere thank you is also in order to the hundreds of volunteers who are helping support all of the Dallas Bike Ride activities. Finally, I would like to thank all of our participants for joining us today. Your involvement not only allows us to celebrate biking in Dallas in a new and exciting way, but also helps raise significant dollars for youth bike education and street safety programs, which in turn, makes Dallas a better, safer place for all. On behalf of Dallas Bike Ride, I offer my best wishes for a wonderful, safe and enjoyable ride! Sincerely, Greg Bibb, Chief Executive Officer Capital Sports Ventures, LLC 5

Monica Paul As founding partners of the Dallas Bike Ride, the Dallas Sports Commission and VisitDallas are proud to continue to support the Dallas Bike Ride for its 2nd Annual event. Big things happen in Dallas and part of our mission at the Dallas Sports Commission and VisitDallas is to promote the city as both a premier destination for visitors as well as an exciting place for residents to live, work and play. The Dallas Bike Ride is a perfect complement to this mission. With more than 100 miles of bike trails and bike lanes throughout the city, Dallas is committed to creating safer streets and making biking an accessible and feasible means of transportation for all. For one day only, 20-miles of roadway will be closed off to provide residents and visitors with an exclusive experience to explore our great city on two wheels. We are excited to offer this one-of-a-kind event to our community and extend a warm welcome to all participants. Thank you and enjoy the ride! Regards, Monica Paul, Executive Director Dallas Sports Commission 6

Rules of the road RIDE SAFE BROUGHT TO YOU BY GEICO Control your speed and be prepared to slow down for congestion or road hazards. Keep at least one hand on the handlebars at all times. Wear your helmet; no ifs, ands, or buts about it. The event insurance and city permits require you must wear your helmet during the event. Have your Rider Identification Kit (RIK) visible at all times: attach the bike sticker to your top tube, affix the bib to your chest and wear your helmet sticker on the front of your helmet. You may be asked to leave the ride if any element of your RIK is missing. Do not wear earbuds or any other form of headphones. Check your bicycle prior to event weekend to ensure you have air in your tires, your breaks work and are tight, and any quick releases on your wheels or seat post are tightened. Feel free to stop by one of the bike mechanics at the ride start to have them provide a complimentary quick tune-up. Respect other bicyclists. Human-powered and pedal-assist e-bikes are both allowed on course. Be predictable and ride in a straight line. If changing paths, look over your shoulder before doing so, and then signal to indicate which way you re planning to go. Use hand signals to indicate that you are slowing down, stopping, turning or changing lanes. Keep to the right side of the roadway when riding and pass other riders on the left side of the roadway. Call out passing on your left when passing slower riders. Keep a safe distance between yourself and other bicyclists that you are riding next to or behind. Move completely to the right side of the road if stopping for any reason. If you need to stop along the route not at an aid station, try to find a safe place to pull over off of the roadway to stop. Do not ride against the flow of the ride. Do not use your cell phone while riding. 15

Tips for a great ride BEFORE THE RIDE Reserve parking and check DART schedules; plan accordingly. Check the weather and wear appropriate clothing. The event will take place rain or shine.
