1 Coaches Contact Information Lynsey Davis Head Coach Kati Cheney Assistant Coach Purpose & Mission The East Ridge Fall Dance Team is a cooperative club of dancers/athletes who strive to promote the vision of the East Ridge athletic program. The goal is to promote school spirit and involvement, teamwork, dedication, strong work ethic, a competitive drive, and respect. The success of this team is due to the dedication of the coaches, dancers, parents, and school administration. Dancers exhibit great sportsmanship, positive attitudes, a strong work ethic both in the classroom and on the dance floor, and have the utmost respect for their coaches, teammates, school, parents, and other teams. T Section 1: Selection and Eligibility All dancers between the grades of 7 th 12 th are eligible for the club fall dance team. Dancers must live within the East Ridge High School boundaries to be eligible to participate. Auditions are held in the Spring each year. The season itself runs mid-summer to mid-october. Section 2: Expectations Every member of the East Ridge Dance Team will be held accountable for their actions. This includes actions outside of practice. It is important to remember that each dancer represents East Ridge High School and East Ridge Dance Team. If actions are not in the best interest of the team or will in anyway jeopardize the goals, expectations, reputation, and wellbeing of the team, the dancer responsible will accept the appropriate consequences. Respect: All dancers must show respect to all coaches, team members, and others. No exceptions. They must show respect to school administration, faculty, school facilities and property, and the East Ridge High School student body. All East Ridge Dance Team members, coaches, and parents will be expected to show respect for one another. It is expected that all dancers live by the Golden Rule. Responsibility: All members have great responsibility to the team. Dancers will be responsible for all school and team property, making sure they are at all team practices, performances, and events. They will take personal responsibility when it comes to school work and grades and acting in a positive, respectful way. Communication: To provide a comfortable and successful environment all lines of communication must be open between coaches, captains, team members, administration, and parents. Communication should be handled in a positive and respectful manner between all communicating parties. If a concern is not brought the coaches attention, they may not know of its existence. Proper protocol will be followed in regard to handling each and every concern a dancer may have throughout the season. Media: It is the responsibility of every team member to represent ERDT in media outlets, i.e. newspapers, Facebook, Instagram, Vine, Twitter, Snapchat, etc., in the best way possible. You must remember that once something is publicized, it is never able to be taken back. Section 3: Practices All practices for the team are mandatory. The coaching staff has designed a practice schedule that allows team members to be involved in other activities in and outside of ERHS. Therefore, when we have practice it is of the utmost importance that dancers are at practice to keep our team functioning at a high level. The practice schedule and calendar are accessible online under the Fall Dance page of the Activities website. Any conflicts should be addressed with the coaching staff immediately. 1 P a g e
2 Tardiness: Tardiness is not accepted without a note from a parent, teacher, or administrator. Team members will not be allowed to leave early from practice unless pre-arranged with the coaching staff. Absence: Please notify the coach PRIOR to an absence for approval via . Please see attendance policy for further information. Please try to schedule all work, doctor appointments, etc. around dance team practice. Practice Attire: Proper practice attire is required and expected. Keep in mind that we practice in public space. All clothing needs to be school appropriate. Here is a list of items that should be brought with dancers to every practice: o Tank top or t-shirt with proper supportive undergarments o Appropriate shorts, dance pants, or capris o Jazz shoes o Tennis/Athletic shoes o Warm-up clothing to wear over dance attire for walking to and from practice Miscellaneous: o Please bring inhalers or any other medications to practice each day as necessary. We ask that you inform us at the beginning of the season of any special medication, such as an inhaler, that you take that would affect your ability to practice. Please bring a doctor s note to the coach at the beginning of the season containing specific instructions on what to do in case of an emergency. o If it is necessary to go to the athletic trainer, this must be done BEFORE or AFTER practice begins. o Practices are closed rehearsals. No visitors, parents, or guests will be allowed to attend practice without prior permission from a coach. Section 4: Attendance Policy/Involvement Each dancer is unique and plays their role on the team in a different way. We expect that when dancers are in practice or at a team event, each are not only there physically, but also mentally. o All practices, performances, and team events are mandatory. o If you are not dancing in a performance, you are still expected to be there and support the team. o If a practice is missed, it is the dancer s responsibility to learn what was missed and be prepared for the next practice. o Notify the coach via prior to an absence. **Exceptions for extenuating circumstances may be made at the discretion of the coaches. o All dancers must participate in Relay for Life with the ERHSDT team. If you are unable to participate, inform the coaches right away. Section 5: Concerns/Conflicts Open communication between all parties is important to our team running successfully. o Situations, issues, concerns, or conflict should be addressed immediately. o Please go to the coach FIRST with any concerns. If the coaching staff is not able to address any specific concern, the matter will be brought to administration according the rules and processes of the Athletic Department. o If you have an issue and don t feel comfortable addressing it during practice, please set up a time to speak with the coaches privately before or after practice. If asked, we will keep you anonymous when addressing the issue. o This applies to parent concerns as well. Please address all concerns/questions right away to lead to a quicker resolution. Section 6: Substance Abuse Policy The use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs WILL NOT be tolerated. If a dancer violates this clause, they will be dismissed from the ERHS Dance Team Program immediately and indefinitely. 2 P a g e
3 Section 7: Academic Standing We believe that school should be a priority to all dancers on our team. As we are a club team, we will not be checking grades regularly; however, we expect the dancers will hold themselves to a high academic standard. Section 8: Parent Involvement The role of a parent on the East Ridge Dance Team is a vital part of the dancer s experience and success. We ask the following of every dancer s parent/s: o Parents must contact the Coach before practice begins to report an absence for a dancer. o Our practices are closed to the public. No visitors, parents, or guests are allowed to attend practice without prior permission from a coach. o Please notify the coaching staff at the beginning of the season if a dancer has any medical conditions or is on certain medications. o Please schedule all doctors, dentist, and other appointments around dance team practices. We have provided a schedule of when/where practices are for the entire season to help with the scheduling process. o Respect and support all coaching decisions, knowing that they always have the team s best interest in mind. Realize that while each Coach is sensitive to each dancer s skill level, emotions, and needs, all decisions are made for the benefit of the entire team. Understand that coaching decisions are not made without much consideration beforehand. o All dance team, school, and practice related questions or concerns must be directed to the Coaches. If the coaching staff is unable to resolve an issue, proper protocol as laid out by the Athletic Department will be followed. Section 9: Uniforms Each dancer is responsible for being prepared to practice and to perform. This includes purchasing additional uniforms or uniform pieces when these items are needed. Uniform tops and garment bags will be checked-out to each dancer at the beginning of the season. Dancers are responsible for the maintenance of their uniforms throughout the season. If, upon return, the uniform is deemed to have been mistreated, fees may be charged (including dry cleaning fees or replacement fees). If poms are handed out prior to an event, similar expectations will be held regarding maintenance/care. All dancers are required to purchase/have the following items by the first day of practice: o Black full-length leggings (no cotton material) o Black jazz shoes for practices and performances (no lace-ups) o Black AND White supportive sports bra(s) for performances (other colored bras may show through) o Black racer-back tank top (no cleavage shown) o Black, fitted long sleeve crew neck o Appropriate dance practice clothes o Black and Gold Nike practice shoes (exact information on these will be provided) Section 10: Apparel We are offering a variety of apparel items to showcase the East Ridge Dance Team. We have student and parent/fan options available. Information for the web store will be provided. The dancer/parent will be responsible for purchasing any apparel they wish to have. It is noted in the Webstore which items are mandatory and which are optional. Mandatory items for the Fall 2018 team on the Webstore include: o ERDT black/grey tank o Black shorts with ERDT logo o ERDT grey sweatshirt (name optional) 3 P a g e
4 Section 11: Fees The Fall team s club fee for 2018 will be $100. This fee is to cover uniform costs, parade fees, assistant coach fees, and various miscellaneous expenses that occur during the season. Checks will be due, along with signed contracts, on May 9 th, 2018 at our first team meeting. Checks should be made out to the ERDT Booster Club. Section 12: Volunteering/Fundraising All dancers must participate in any fundraising activities that occur throughout the season. They will also be required to attend at least one other fundraising activity throughout the school year. Additionally, the team will be volunteering at several community events throughout the season. Attendance at these events is highly encouraged. Section 13: Violation of Contract All dancers who accept a position on this team will be held to the same standard.
