1 Dance Team Contract This contract is for the purpose of providing each member of the University of San Diego Dance Team with the guidelines, expectations and commitment responsibilities required for being a member of this team. Upon signing this contract, you as a USD student and participating member of this team, agree to all of the requirements stated within for one full season beginning May 6, 2017 and ending May 6, If you are found in violation or disagreement of this contract, you become subject to consequence decided upon by the coaches and administration, or dismissal from the team. SECTION A Goal To promote school spirit and to serve as role models and ambassadors for the University of San Diego Toreros, through game performance and attendance, and in the USD and San Diego communities. Purpose The USD Dance Team supports the University of San Diego Toreros Athletic program by cheering, performing, and attending the following sports which include, but is not limited to, all home Football, Women s and Men s Basketball, some Soccer, Volleyball, and Baseball. Our attendance is expected and required at these athletic events for pre-season, conference play, and sometimes post season. Schedules are laid out in advance, but in the event of post season play, we may be asked to attend on short notice. This is also expected and required. Requirements -Team fee and camp fee, must be paid in full at the conclusion of tryouts, once chosen for the team. Checks can be made payable to USD Athletics- Dance Team. The money paid will cover uniforms, warm-ups, shoes, bag, poms and administrative fee to be put towards team needs. Once fee has been paid, you are able to keep all items. (Please see fee addendum for costs) -Dance will attend Pro Action camp from July 30-31st at the Flamingo Hotel -Competition choreography camp Fall semester weekend TBD -August camp prior to the start of fall semester (TBD return date of August 25, 2017)

2 -2 practices per week: Sundays 9am-12pm and Tuesdays 7-10pm (The head coach reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a practice if it is needed for any reason. This will be rare but can happen.) -Football games: home games on Saturdays September-November -Pre-season basketball: Late October-early December -Winter session camp training: Return Janaury 3rd-16th, Conference play basketball: early December-March -Post season basketball: WCC in Las Vegas, NV -Some baseball, volleyball and soccer games throughout the year -Events required for team participation, but not limited to just these: *JDRF Walk *6th Man Event *Autism Tree Project *Tabling for game promotions during dead hours *For The Love of The Game Baseball event *Community events such as charity runs, fundraisers, appearances, etc. SECTION B Attitude It is expected and required that all dancers and cheerleaders come to practices, games, and events with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. The team is only as good as the members want it to be. A negative attitude, pettiness, disrespect of team members, captains, coaches or any staff will not be tolerated. If there is a problem that needs to be addressed, it should be done so through discussion with the coaches. This is a college team with adult expectations, and every member is expected to conduct themselves accordingly. We are more than happy to handle any issues with you as the student athlete only. We do not wish to be contacted by outside parties regarding team matters unless it is an emergency. Team Responsibility -Choreography: every member is expected to know all choreography and come prepared to practices and games. In the event choreography is missed for any reason, it is the individual s responsibility to learn and know it by the next practice. If extra help is needed, the individual should schedule additional time with the coaches and/or a teammate. All material will be tested on each dancer before choosing who will perform each routine. Being on the team does not guarantee a spot in every dance. -Game roles: While we are a cheer and dance team, we are also expected and asked to help with in game promotions during games. This can include, but is not limited to, throwing out t-

3 shirts, giving out pizzas, choosing crowd members for timeout or halftime activities, etc. Every single member is required to participate in these duties. SECTION C Health & Fitness as a team: As an athlete, it is each and every person s responsibility to stay physically fit and lead a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. Team workouts, drills, skills, competition tricks and technique will be a regular part of our practice routine. While working out and taking class outside of practice is encouraged, no one is to participate in any sport or activity that can cause serious injury or jeopardize your team commitment. Any injuries incurred at practice or games should immediately be brought to the coaches attention and referred to the athletic trainers. Athletic Trainers Role in our Team: The Athletic trainers are there to assist us with injuries and recovery if needed. If you go to the trainers with an injury, you are not allowed to participate in any practice or game activity until they have cleared you for participation. You must participate in any therapy and injury care that they prescribe. Additionally, the use of any illegal substances is strictly prohibited. Every member of this team is subject to drug testing at any time, and if anyone is found in violation of this will be immediately dropped from the team. SECTION D Ambassador for USD Toreros As members of the USD Spirit Team, it is expected and required that conduct be worthy of USD Athletics compliance requirements. -Team uniforms are not to be worn outside of game or team activities, unless otherwise instructed or cleared by the head coach. (Example: not to be used as a Halloween outfit or costume at any time for any reason, or lent out to friends) Academics: -All students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and be a full time USD student (grad or undergrad). Coaches reserve the right to check grades and monitor progress throughout the year. -If at any time, someone is struggling with classes, tests, projects, etc, please bring it to the attention of the coaches, so that additional help can be provided through tutors, study halls, etc. -Any class material, tests, etc that is missed while traveling for WCC, NCAA, or competition can be requested for proctoring by our academics department for athletics. Fundraising: -Every athlete who is a member of this team is required to actively fundraise for our program. This includes but is not limited to mandatory participation in our call night, sponsor programs,

4 Change funding website, 50/50 sales at games, Spirit Team clinics, and other events that arise throughout the year. Any ideas to fundraise are appreciated and welcomed!! Sportsmanship As public figures of the USD community, it is important that all members, at all times, maintain good sportsmanship and positive leadership. We will not engage in negative or inappropriate cheers and chants during games, and will refrain from name calling, yelling at referees or umpires, opposing teams, players and coaches. We will never speak negatively about USD or any of its teams or athletes, in conversation or on social media. SECTION E Social Media If you choose to use your social media while on the team, there should be no profanity, evidence of under age drinking, scantily clad photos, or inappropriate posts and comments in evidence on any profile. If you question whether it is or not before posting it, err on the side of caution and refrain from posting. This also includes any posts from friends on your walls or tagging you in photos or posts. Please ask your friends to keep it clean, otherwise you become responsible. Appearance Every member at all times, is to look presentable, have a clean uniform, clean shoes, and hair and makeup done according to the recommended look. You should arrive to any games, appearances, or performances READY!! This means fully dressed in uniform, hair and make-up DONE, and no extra jewelry on. Make-up: This is to be worn for all performances and appearances unless otherwise specified. You will be ed a YouTube video tutorial upon making the team. -Every cheerleader and dancer will receive a team lipstick (Maybelline 14 hour color stay in Cranberry). -False lashes -Foundation/powder -Blush -Eye shadow & liner Jewelry: -Only one pair of earrings should be worn. Multiple ear piercings should be taken out for games, performances, and appearances. -No other rings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, or visible piercings should be worn. Hair: -This will be decided on a game to game basis by the coaches. Nails: -Nail polish can be worn, but should be light or neutral colors for team events. No chipped polish or nails missing polish.

5 Other: -It is a general and unspoken rule that you do not wear gear from other colleges or universities to practice or team events. It is a conflict of interest for us to wear anything but USD sweatshirts, jackets, sweats, shorts, hats, etc. Show support for your Toreros! SECTION F Competition: -We compete at USA Collegiate Nationals in Anaheim, and is usually in mid March. Being on the team does not guarantee you a spot on the competition team. Coaches reserve the right to choose who will compete. -For the week leading up to competition, rehearsal will be held every night, so please block out your schedules accordingly. WCC Tournament, Las Vegas -In March, we will attend the WCC Basketball Tournament with our basketball teams. This typically takes place the first weekend in March and can last anywhere from 2 days to 5 days depending on our basketball teams performance. This is a privilege to attend and a spot to go with our team and cheer and dance is not guaranteed as we are only allowed to bring 12 dance or cheer members. Each member must earn their spot to Vegas by upholding the team contract throughout the year, and exhibiting outstanding team commitment. It will not be based on seniority but only on the aforementioned requirements. It also may occur that only the dance team or only the team attends this tournament. SECTION G Attendance: Everyone s full participation and commitment to the team is necessary for a successful season. When one person is absent, it can upset formations, routines and put more responsibility on your teammates. Please be thoughtful and respectful of the commitment you have made to the team, and do not abuse the privilege to dance and cheer for this program. -All practices, games, and events are mandatory for every member of the team. -We do not excuse for sorority events (dances, philanthropy events, etc) at any time throughout the season. We allow a two week break during January for anyone rushing and those already involved with a sorority. Games are NOT excused during this time. We will work with the schedule to the best of our ability but please understand that this team is a one year commitment. -Each person will be allowed ONE excused practice per semester. This can be used for any reason whatsoever, but one week notice is required. (No asking the day of practice to miss) If it is a practice immediately before a game day, then you are responsible for any missed material before that game, or you may be taken out of that game s performances. Anyone who ar-

6 rives unprepared will sit the game out and be responsible for in game promotions. (I.e. throwing out t-shirts, giving out pizzas, 50/50, etc.) -Games will not be excused for any reason unless previously cleared with the Head Coach. I will allow games to be excused for extreme family emergencies, family weddings (with at least 30 days advance notice), and deaths in the family or friends, and major illness with proof of a doctor s note, stating the illness and expected recovery time. -Tardies: if you are late to a practice or game, for the first time, you will condition. Coming from class is excused, but you must come prepared. Having to go home, or back to a dorm, for uniforms, shoes, food, etc will be considered a tardy and have the appropriate consequences. -We understand that your lives are busy with school, work, sororities and other commitments, as are the lives of the Spirit Team coaching staff. However, upon signing this contract you are agreeing to make this a priority. Accommodations will be made when possible but on a very limited basis, so please arrange your work and other schedules accordingly. -The coaching staff reserves the right to sit anyone out of game when necessary. -If any member decides to leave the team, a 30 day advance notice must be given to BOTH Director and Assistant Coach. We take this team very seriously and the time that we put into growing it. It is a privilege to be a member of this team and any disrespect of this contract, or the commitment made, will not be tolerated. However, we do understand that emergency situations arise, and will be evaluated fairly. The director of the Spirit Team reserves the right to determine the final results/consequences. Final Agreement Upon reading this contract and signing below, you agree to uphold the standards, expectations and rules of this team. You are committed to one full season, and agree to complete the year beginning May 6, 2017 and ending May 6, If for any reason, you cannot fulfill your commitment, you must give 30 days notice. No refunds of money paid to the team will be given at any time. I, agree to the rules, expectations, (Print Name) guidelines and conditions of this contract.
