1 The Lost Coast H O W L E R Editor: Barbara Stelz JULY 2010 LCKC BOARD OF DIRECTORS Officers: JILL OTTO President * MICHELLE DOSTAL Vice President * KRIS SMITH Secretary * CHRIS IRVIN Treasurer * Members of the Board: BEVERLY MORGAN- LEWIS DEB ST. MYERS CATHY WRIGHT NEXT MEETING: TUESDAY, JULY 20 TH at The Adorni Center 1011 Waterfront Drive Eureka Board Mtg. - 6:30 p.m. Regular Mtg. - 7:00 p.m. President s Corner I want to thank everyone who helped make the breed/ obedience/rally shows a big success over the July 4th weekend. We made it through the extra day and still had a little energy left for clean up. We had lots of positive comments from entrants, judges, vendors, and local visitors. We also received a few constructive comments that we will take into consideration for next year. We have the Agility Trial coming up in a couple of weeks, so we will be discussing those plans at the upcoming meeting. We will plan to recap the breed/obedience shows at the August or September meeting, so plan to bring comments and suggestions at that time. I know we are all a little worn out from the past weekend, but hopefully, we can all support the Agility Trial on July Please let Beverly know if you can help with setup, teardown, or during the show days. There are plenty of ways to help even if you don't do agility yourself - and it's so much fun to watch the dogs run the agility courses! Thanks again to everyone. Jill Otto Join us. Everyone is Welcome!

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!!! Stay I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the local shopping center and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever pup had fresh air. She was stretched full-out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Now you stay. Do you hear me?" "Stay! Stay!" The driver of a nearby car, a pretty young lady, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"

8 Board Meeting did not have a quorum to commence. -8- Lost Coast Kennel Club Meeting JUNE 15, 2010 Held in Ferndale. General Meeting started at 7:00 PM with the following attending: Michelle Dostal, Rose Kessler, Tina Moulton, Debbi Sholes, Chris Irvin, Patty Mendes, Nick Mendes, Cathlyn Wright, Josephine Morrissay, Deb St.Myers, Beverly Morgan-Lewis, Jaci Carroll, and guest Jessi Chiaudano. Michelle Dostal directed meeting, as our President was out of town. Deb St.Myers took minutes. Minutes for May 2010 meeting were approved. Report of Secretary - Not in attendance as a new Grandbaby has come into the world. Kris and Bayard are Grandparents! Ring Practice - Kris sends notice that there will be ring practice every Sunday until our show. Newsletter - Please send anything of interest to Barbara for the newsletter. Treasurer's Report Total assets were reported. Show Committee Cathlyn Wright shared progress of show plans:the Friday BBQ July 2, at our show will be $10.00 per person and with Oyster it will be $2.00 more. The BBQ will be set up under the trees on the South end of the Fairgrounds. We will be meeting July 1, Thursday at 9:00 AM to set up for our 3-day show. Please come all to help. Lunch will be paid for to all that show to help. There was a motion to pay a couple of young men $10/ hr. to work at our show in helping to do the heavy lifting, setting up, parking, garbage pick-up, and teardown. The motion was passed with Cathy and Chris to handle the details. The field we usually use for our Obedience and Rally is in bad shape. It was decided to use the nice grassy area near the dairy barn, just East of the Breed show rings. Obedience jumps are being modified to the new AKC regulations by Nick Mendes. Public Relations are being covered by several members. Posters are made by Debbi Sholes and distributed at the meeting. These are the nicest posters we have ever had. What very beautiful artwork she has developed. Thank you Debbi. Carol Titus with the Enterprise Newspaper is planning a tailgate party at 5:00PM, in the parking lot of the fairgrounds, and has inquired about this with one of our members. It was discussed and decided to advise her that AKC rules would not allow this activity until after our 8:pm show end time. T-shirts are being re-ordered by Michelle Dostal after a discussion on how many and what colors. Report of the Agility Chair by Beverly Morgan-Lewis: The field that has been used in the past is in very poor shape. Due to such a wet winter and spring and the tractor that was used to mow down the grass sinking six inches into the soil, the ruts are very deep, and thus the field needs a lot of work to be done to get it ready for our trial. Beverly and Nick will be meeting with the fairground manager on the matter. Everything otherwise is moving right along. We still need raffle items for the worker raffle. Please contact Deb St.Myers or Beverly if you have anything to donate. Election of new members: Leslie Berchfield has applied for an Assoc. membership. Sara Borok applied for a membership. Jessica Chiaudano applied for a membership. Unfinished Business: Woofstock on August 22, Tina Moulton and Cathy Wright are volunteering to represent the club at this event. We welcome everyone to come by and help if you like. The QuickSilver Messenger Service will be one of the bands there this year. The Farm Store is again having their PetFair on September 25 th. Jill Otto will send in the application for this event. Rose has offered to volunteer to represent the club at a table there. If there is anyone else interested in helping with this event please come. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
