1 CHOBHAM LIFE SEPTEMBER 2018 BROUGHT TO YOU BY CHOBHAM MANOR LLP THE SUMMER HOLIDAY SEASON IS OVER Whilst watching everyone else fly out for their summer holidays I have been enjoying our very own heatwave, even joining our residents' Tea Party this September. It s been lovely meeting you all and I look forward to working with many of you to develop Chobham Manor s Community Engagement Strategy. I ll be sending out more information about the strategy soon. Read on to find out about Harvest Stomp, recycling tips from your neighbours and lots more. There s so much to get involved in over the coming months to keep you busy. Sharan Ansong, Business Lead Chobham Manor HARVEST STOMP It s coming back to the Park for another year on Sunday 23 September. Lock this date in your diary for another fun-filled day out! Expect to find a variety of interactive activities, from learning how to brew beer to petting sheep in the mobile farm there is something for everyone to enjoy. Join us by Timber Lodge Café from 12noon - 6pm and find the following and much more: A main stage with live music and dance Arts and craft stalls and activities An educational mobile farm with sheep, chickens and ducks! A packed programme of workshops, demonstrations and entertainment Indulge in some bread and jam at the jamboree Traditional garden games Micro-brewery demonstrations with students from University College London. There will also be a variety of world food on offer. Entry is FREE simply turn up on the day and enjoy! Neighbourhood Services This September we re working hard to recruit site operatives to provide a cost effective, high quality site specific service. We will keep you updated and announce the successful service provider following interviews taking place this month. Also, this month we are meeting with other community stakeholders to discuss road traffic management in the area. Having spoken with Chobham Manor Residents' Association, we have a clear understanding of what residents would like to see delivered in the future. In addition to this, we will be improving the traffic management signage on the roads we manage to try to minimise the impact upon our community. Don t forget to visit Chobhamlife.co.uk to keep up-to-date with the latest resident information. We carried out a survey back in July regarding our performance, you can find results on the website. We ll continue to carry out surveys on a quarterly basis to monitor our performance and improve our service to you as residents of Chobham Manor. CHOBHAM LIFE TOP TIPS FROM YOUR RESIDENTS RECYCLING GROUP.

It s easy to be more green and it doesn t take any extra time or money. 1. Buy loose fruit and vegetables & bring own carrier bags with you.

Not only does buying loose reduce plastic packaging but it reduces food waste too. Try and remember to carry a bag with you for those unexpected purchases. 2.

Ginger & Mint love it when people bring their own cups or flasks for their smoothies and at Pret A Manger you get 50p off when you buy a hot drink and have it in your own cup.

This could be fish you buy from the fresh fish counter at Waitrose or meat and cheese from Appetite. Both shops welcome bringing your own containers to the store. 4. Drinking water.

Also, try to remember to take your own reusable bottle or flask for water with you when you go out to avoid buying bottled water 5. Clothes recycling.

2 CHOBHAM LIFE TOP TIPS FROM YOUR RESIDENTS RECYCLING GROUP... As we are living in the Park, we care about our environment and want to do our best to support it by using less and recycling more. Waitrose and Sainsbury s sell a few loose vegetables and fruit. Ted s Veg sell mainly loose veg and will let you transfer any produce in plastic pots into your own containers. Bring your own reusable cups, bottles or flasks to cafes for cold or hot takeaway drinks. Fancy a smoothie? Recycle your Brita water filter cartridges at Stratford Broadway or Argos. Consider buying a gravity filter where filters last 8-10 years e.g. Berkey. Bring old clean clothes, linens, towels even if they are stained or torn to H&M for reuse and recycling. Got any single socks with holes or laddered tights? They take these too! Batteries and light bulbs recycling. Both can be recycled at the Westfield Ikea store. There's a collection point near the tills. 7. Newham recycling collection reminder: Also, here is a reminder of what Newham Council collect as part of recycling: Plastic bottles (no plastic trays or tubs) Paper and cardboard (not contaminated with food) Aluminium drink cans and food tins (washed out after use) Please don t throw glass, tetrapak or plastic trays and tubs in your recycle bins. These need to be either taken to Newham or Leyton recycling centres or taken to the recycling points in Hackney Wick until we can find a better solution

3 E20 ATHLETICS FOUNDATION The E20 Athletics Foundation has been running over the summer and has been well attended by Chobham Manor residents. If you were inspired by Team GB s recent success at the European Athletics Championships then sessions will be running until September at the London Community track (every Tuesday from 6.30pm until 8pm). NEWHAM CITIZENS ASSEMBLIES As a Newham resident you are invited to a series of Neighbourhood Citizens Assemblies during the month of September 2018, taking place across the borough in each community neighbourhood. Here you will be able to identify and discuss how best to address challenges in your area. This gives you and your neighbours direct influence to create a shared vision for the place where you live, helping to shape its development and growth. E20 FOOTBALL FOUNDATION We are promoting the recycling of football boots, kits and toys to be redistributed to local residents. Since we introduced the recycling scheme, this initiative has been well received in the past and residents have greatly benefited from the project. By simply recycling with us, your name will be entered into a prize draw each month for family tickets to a Premier League Football match. Your Neighbourhood Talks is a great opportunity to find out about the latest events, opportunities, projects and construction activities happening in 2018 and 2019 on the Park and in the surrounding area. Visit one of our market place stalls or join the round table discussion where staff from LLDC and partner organisations will be on hand to answer your questions. PRIDE IN THE JOB AWARD Sean Quinn BSc (Hons) MCIOB, Taylor Wimpey East London s Project Director for Chobham Manor is delighted to have been awarded an NHBC (National House-Building Council) Pride in the Job Award for his excellence in site management. Following 12 months of rigorous judging, Sean will now go forward with the first round of winners to compete for the Seal of Excellence and Regional Winner titles which will be announced at an event in London this month. Sean added I m very proud to have won this award. It s a fantastic honour, not just for me, but the whole team at Chobham Manor. They all work incredibly hard and take great pride in ensuring that the homes we build are completed to the highest possible standards. It s great to be recognised for hard work and this is the perfect reward for the whole team involved.

REGENERATION UPDATE Here s an update on how Chobham Manor is progressing... PHASE 2 Overall, Phase 2 is progressing extremely well across all blocks.

Brickwork continues across all phases, together with the installation of internal staircases and rooflights. Balcony construction will start in the next period.

5 REGENERATION UPDATE Here s an update on how Chobham Manor is progressing... PHASE 2 Overall, Phase 2 is progressing extremely well across all blocks. Works have included flushing of the underground district heating with kitchens and shower installations nearing completion. Brickwork continues across all phases, together with the installation of internal staircases and rooflights. Balcony construction will start in the next period. We can see scaffolding on Phases 2B, C and D where masonry and drylining works are well underway. It s very exciting watching the work unfold and we expect to see some new residents moving into this phase by Christmas. PHASE 3 We are pleased to be commencing on Phase 3 which encompasses the land where the site offices are currently situated. Piling work is due to start by the end of September. SITE SAFETY Site continues to put safety first with no serious accidents encountered since the start of the project. Our second Considerate Constructors scheme visit took place at the end of August. MEET YOUR NEW CUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGER Hi, my name is Samantha Hancock your newly appointed Customer Relations Manager at Taylor Wimpey. I am very happy to be a part of the Chobham Manor team and feel that I can offer valuable support by ensuring that you, our residents, are satisfied with the quality of your new home and to resolve any aftercare issues. I have worked on the Chobham Manor project as a coordinator within the Customer Service department for the last two years and have thoroughly enjoyed my work and getting to know the development.
