2 Marsh Maneuvers was another well attended and adventurous summer camp. Marsh Maneuvers is one of many educational opportunities offered through the LSU AgCenter s 4H Program. This week long camp is held at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Cameron Parish with the cooperation of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Louisiana Sea Grant Program. Four sessions of camp were funded during July through the Youth Wetlands Education Grant from Louisiana s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. One of the many highlights was stewardship project the students did near Avery Island. Each week, the groups transplanted several thousand smooth cordgrass plants into a shallow water area near an abandoned oil field canal. By next summer, several acres of re-vegetated marsh will be created through their efforts. Students attending Marsh Maneuver from Tangipahoa Parish were Nicholas Giron, Kaylin Lacoste, Krislyn Kerr, Haylee Corbin, Conner Alston, Louis Pesson, Leighton Dempster, and Cole Starkey. Adults attending were Master Volunteer, Fran Castille and Tangipahoa 4-H Extension Agent, JoAnna Pesson.
