4 Being physically active is important because it improves heart health, builds strong bones and muscles, gives you more energy, helps you feel good about yourself and your body, and helps prevent diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Physical activity also improves balance, helps you grow and develop properly, and helps you to relax and sleep better. Youth should be physically active for 60 minutes (1 hour) every day. It does not need to be 60 consecutive minutes; you can break it into short 10 or 15 minutes periods throughout the day. Reducing the amount of screen time and playing video games can add quality to your overall health and well-being. Find new ways to be physically active---biking more, skating, playing soccer, taking stairs whenever possible, or even walking in place while watching your favorite thirty minute sitcom. Physical activity should become a part of your everyday routine even into adulthood. Robin B. Landry Area Nutrition Agent Assumption Parish LSU AgCenter Dear Parents, Members and Leaders, Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. I am truly blessed to be able to work with such great people. Wishing this Thanksgiving finds you with plenty of reason to give thanks! Sincerely, Margo L.
