1 2016 County Fair Newsletter Dear Clover Kids & Parents, Since fair events are quickly approaching we wanted to make you aware of the events you can be a part of. You will find lots of information about these opportunities throughout this newsletter. Clover Kids who decide to participate in fair activities will receive a participation ribbon for their efforts. They also will receive a 4-H fair t-shirt and coupons to the 4-H Dollar Barn. Make your summer exciting by taking part in one of these great events! Check out the schedule!

2 Monday, July 11th, 8:00am 6:00pm Pre Entry Day Clover Kids can come to turn in their registration form for the Clover Bucket Bottle Calf, Lamb, Kid, Pet, and Rabbit Shows. They can also pick up their fair t-shirt and Dollar Barn coupons on this day. Parents can purchase their fair Fun Cards and Endowment Pancake Breakfast tickets here too! Sunday, July 24th, 8:00am noon Endowment Pancake Breakfast Come help kick off fair week and enjoy the Endowment Pancake Breakfast. During this time the 4-H ers will be showcasing their talents in the music recital, Share-the-Fun routines, Educational Presentations and the Dog Show. Tuesday, July 26th Indoor Judging This is when Clover Kids will be judged on their indoor projects. They will be able to sit with a Judge and Judge s helper and tell them about their project. Some things they could talk about is what they did, how they did it and who maybe helped, what their favorite part of the project was, and what they d like to do for next year. Each club has a designated time to come, the schedule is outlined later in the newsletter. Thursday, July 28th, 12:00pm (vet check 11:30am) Clover Kids Lamb and Kid Show Friday, July 29th, 11:00am (vet check 10:45am) Clover Kids Pet Show Friday, July 29th, 6:00pm (vet check 5:30pm) Clover Kids Bucket Bottle Calf Show Saturday, July 30th Clover Kids Rabbit Show (vet check and show immediately following 4-H Show)

3 What s that? This is the Clover Kid s opportunity to show off something they have created. It could be an informative poster, cookies they baked, a picture frame they decorated, produce from their garden or something they drew. Often, Clover Kids clubs will create projects together for the kids to take to Indoor Judging day. What will happen that day? Each Clover Kids club has a scheduled time to come. At that time, a specific Clover Kids judge and judge s helper will sit with the kids and talk to them about their projects. Some questions they might be asked are: Why did you choose this project? How did you make this project? What was your biggest problem with this project and how did you solve it? What would you like to do again in the future? The Clover Kids receive a special Clover Kids ribbon for exhibiting. This is a great opportunity for Clover Kids to get ready for when they get their projects judged as 4-H ers. 4 What s that? This is the Clover Kid s chance to participate in livestock shows like the older 4-H ers. There is a bucket bottle calf, lamb and kid, rabbit and pet show they can participate in. What will happen that day? For each show, the Clover Kid will have to have their animal inspected by a veterinarian unless they are using another 4-H ers animal. This is for the safety of the people and other animals involved, to make sure the animal is healthy and able to be at the fair. After the vet check, the Clover Kids will be able to show their animals. Generally, the Clover Kids parade into the show ring and the emcee will ask them some questions about their animals. The Clover Kids receive a special Clover Kids ribbon for exhibiting. Schedule Lamb and Kid Show Pet Show Bucket Bottle Calf Show Rabbit Show Thursday, 12:00pm, vet check 11:30am Friday, 11:00am, vet check 10:45am Friday, 6:00pm, vet check 5:30pm Saturday, immediately following 4-H Show, vet check prior What s the judge looking for? The judge will mainly be wanting to see that the Clover Kid is having fun while safely and properly exhibiting their animals. They will want to be clean and neat, and try to handle their animal with minimal assistance from an adult. Parents or guardians will need to accompany the exhibitor into the show ring. The included entry form is due to the Extension Office by July 11th (Pre-Entry day). More information about the Clover Kids shows can be found on page 39 in the fair book.

5 It s always fun to check out the indoor exhibits and livestock barns! Every day the 4-H County Council group will be serving up cool, yummy treats at the 4-H Dollar Barn. The Dollar Barn is located by the west entrance of the fairgrounds by the Dairy Barn. The 4-H Young Leaders Council sponsors a corn box for kids to play in. It s like a sandbox, but filled with corn! There are different toys in it that everyone can play with. Young Leaders Council also built a 4-H Free Library this year for families to enjoy. It has books, games, and activities you can borrow. Every day there will be a little different selection for everyone to enjoy! The library will be located outside of Boyer Hall. Kid s Day for the fair is Thursday! Attractions throughout the day are: Free cookies sponsored by Maquoketa State Bank Amy the Facepainter Fortune Teller Rondini s Science Magic Sting Rays Galaxy Girl High Fly acrobatics Knuckleballs Carnival rides start in the afternoon!
