1 The Great Adventure GRAND SESSION JUNE 19-22,2019 Coer d'alene, ID To all Bethels and Bethel Guardian Councils: Enclosed with this packet you will find the information and entry forms necessary to enter the Grand Bethel competitions in Idaho Falls. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS INFORMATION AS THERE ARE CHANGES FROM YEAR TO YEAR! The white section contains summary forms that must be mailed to me by May 1, Due to the large number of entries, please make sure your forms are complete and on time. Those Bethels whose entries are not postmarked by May 1, 2019, will have their Executive Guardian Councils fined $25.00, and competitions will not be scheduled until such fine is paid. Preference in scheduling is given in the order the packets are received. Please make every effort to be available to begin competition as early as possible on Wednesday. We will do our best when scheduling to accommodate everyone s wishes but will not be able to accommodate everyone Thursday morning. This is particularly important for large Bethels! If you are a local Bethel, please consider requesting an early Wednesday time as a courtesy to your Jobie sisters who have a long distance to travel. Due to the success of the Ritual competition being held entirely on Wednesday, it is my hope we can schedule all Ritual on Wednesday June 19 th. All Bethel Corp/Open the Gates will definitely only have Wednesday slots available. Please note on the summary sheet the fees to enter Ritual, Music, Drama, and Dance competitions. The Grand Bethel Advisory Board voted for the fees as follows: 1 girl competing = $ girls competing = $ or more girls (including whole Bethel competitions) = $ The by invitation only, Open the Gates competition fee is the same as other Bethel competitions ($15.00). As in the past, these fees will not be refunded, which will help cover the expenses of trophies and medallions. As before, the fees should be totaled on the COMPETITION SUMMARY SHEET and submitted with a Bethel check. If there is a problem with a competition and you contact me before June 1, there is a possibility that a refund could be made. There will be no changes in competition schedules after June 1 st unless they involve brand new members from a recent initiation. All changes should be made through me since I have the complete master schedule. PLEASE RESPECT THIS DEADLINE. Once again there will also be fees for the Arts and Crafts entries, but those will be collected at Session when the items are submitted. ($2.00 per entry for the first five items and $1.00 per entry for each item thereafter) You will notice that once again that most judging sheets for competitions are eliminated from this packet. They will be available online on our Idaho Job s Daughters website ( You may download and print them if you choose or a Daughter may access them herself. The only judge s sheets enclosed are for the competition Daughters of the Guard. It gives participants a clear idea of the judge s expectations. Should you need parts of this packet, it will also be available online. Remember the deadline is May 1 st. As in previous years, we ask that Bethels submit adult names of those who will be available to judge competitions. If you have Daughters competing, you should submit names to assist with judging, even if it is for a different type of competition. These people will be contacted by the Competition Chairperson if they are needed and given the necessary information. Competitions are tentatively scheduled to be held: Wednesday, June 19 Thursday, June a.m. to 6 p.m. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. We always seem to have a number of Daughters who do not show up or who cancel their competitions. Please discuss with your Daughters the responsibility that comes with registering for a competition and encourage them to follow through on commitments. We would like to adhere to a NO CANCELLATION philosophy. If it is unavoidable and a Daughter must cancel, the Daughter or her Guardian should go to the Competition Chairperson personally and cancel.
2 Also enclosed is the paperwork for the drawing for Grand Bethel Officers and Representatives. A Daughter must be an HQ, a PHQ, or 14 years of age to have her name in the drawing for a Grand Bethel Officer position. A Daughter must be an HQ, a PHQ, or 13 years of age to have her name in the drawing for a Grand Bethel Representative position. Please also make note of any other eligibility requirements in the Grand Bethel section of the white book. Discuss the privileges and responsibilities of these positions with your Daughters so that they know what is involved if they are drawn. Please do not enter a girl s name unless you know she is interested in taking the position. It is disheartening to have Daughters decline once they have been drawn. This year the Advisory Board decided to give the Daughters the opportunity to take the Grand Bethel Line Officer at the same time as the Miss Idaho test. However; if you had a Daughter who did not take the Line Officer test at either of those opportunities; I have also included a sign-up sheet for girls desiring to take the line officer test. Since the drawing for Senior Princess requires a recitation (HQ part of the Royal Purple Ceremony ) we need to schedule girls who meet the qualifications and desire to be in the Senior Princess drawing. A separate letter on the recitation will be sent separately from Grand Bethel Honored Queen Rylee. Note to current Grand Bethel Officers: Opening parts will be mailed to all Grand Bethel Officers later in the spring to be used at the Grand Bethel meetings. Grand Bethel will be performing the Majority Ceremony and Idaho Gem Award Ceremony this year, and those parts will be mailed at the same time later in the spring. All parts need to be memorized. If for some reason your part is not memorized, you will be removed. Being a Grand Bethel Officer is a privilege and comes with responsibility. Grand Bethel Officers and Representatives must plan to attend all practices and bring their official regalia to Session. Grand Bethel Representatives will wear white robes and white accessories to all meetings, including Formal Opening on Thursday evening. If a Grand Bethel Representative is a current Honored Queen or Princess, she may wear her cape or crown for Formal Opening only. No capes or crowns to be worn for other Grand Bethel meetings. Grand Bethel Officers will wear their purple robes at all Grand Bethel meetings. Bethel Guardian Councils: Please discuss the Grand Bethel Dress code with all those planning to attend Grand Session. It is included for your convenience. The Grand Bethel Advisory Board, at the request of many of our Idaho Daughters, decided that our dress code will be enforced at Grand Session this year. This pertains to all (including adults) in attendance. This includes younger Majority Member, all current members, adults and visitors. Please inform ALL attendees and assist us so that we may avoid any embarrassing or negative situations. We are also asking when attending any meeting in which Daughters are present all parents, chaperones and any adults please seat toward the back of the room. This will enable Daughters the ability to see better. Entries for the Literary competition should be sent directly to Grand Librarian, Anne VanWassenhove. Service forms should be sent to Jennifer Marshall. All other forms (Ritual, dance, music, drama, judges, rep/officer drawing) must be sent to And one last time: The deadline for submitting your competition registrations is May 1, We are looking forward to seeing all of you in Coeur d'alene! This should be an exciting year full of laughter, renewing friendships, and making more Jobie Memories!!, PGG Don Nelson, PAGG Grand Bethel Chairman Grand Bethel Co-chairman 1207 Peregrine Ct Tioga St Caldwell, ID Boise, ID muncys885@msn.com dynelson2008@q.com
