1 This is the official publication of the Meadowlark Chapter of the Model A Restorers Club (MARC) and the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). This monthly newsletter is mailed to members, prospective members, and editors of similar publications. Its purpose is to keep you informed about what has taken place and to remind you of future activities. Members may publish at no cost, ads for items wanted, for sale, or trade. They are also invited to submit technical Model A information and other interesting tidbits. Material should reach the editor by the last Saturday of the month. Membership dues for the Meadowlark Club are $24.00 per year prorated monthly for new members. Membership in one of the national clubs is required. You may join both national clubs if you wish. MAFCA dues are $30.00 per year and MARC dues are $35.00 per year. Spring has sprung and Gertie, our Model A, wants to know when she can be taken out to play. Soon I hope. We have a brand new slogan for our club for this year: FORDS AND MORE IN 2004 Thanks to Lee Hendrix for compiling all the slogan entries to choose from. Let s all look forward to some very enjoyable times this season in driving our Model A s. The Highways and Byways are calling us. Your Tour Committee is working on some really neat places to visit. Thanks to all of you for helping fill the Food Bank donation box at our last regular meeting. We donated twenty-three cans of food to the Food Bank. Every little bit helps. Keep up the good work by donating a can of food at each regular meeting. Thanks to all our guys who worked the Eastern Nebraska Western Iowa Car Council Swap Meet in Lincoln. We were part of 263 volunteers who helped put on a very successful show. They had over 968 vendors there this year, one of the largest participations ever. And thanks to the public that came out to the show and helped donate over six thousand pounds of food and $ to the Food Bank. We have our semi annual Litter Pick Up scheduled for April 10 th. We are again going to meet at the Cubby s in Bennington at 10am. Come out, breath some of that fresh country air, enjoy the camaraderie, do a good deed for the community, and enjoy going to lunch afterwards. You are cordially invited to come out and help make the day special for the folks at the Silvercrest Retirement Home just south of 108 th and Q Street. On May 1 st. from 10am to 1pm they would like to see our Model A s and reminisce back to their younger days when many of them drove Model A s as everyday transportation. The invitation has been extended to us and in recognition of our efforts; a donation will be made to our club. Plan to attend, meet some very nice people, have some fun and enjoy a great time. She is off all blood pressure medicines and will have more tests done in April.

El Bee s does not seem to have its own web site, but the Metatiki site gives it 4 /12 out of 5 tasty pigs and says it has Great Food, Great Service, and Great Prices!! We will meet there at 7:00PM on April 22. Please sign up at the meeting or let Lee Hendrix know you plan to attend. Spring Driving Tour -Let s get those Model A wheels turning! For our first tour of the year, we are going to fuel up on a nice breakfast and then head for Fremont. We will meet at 9:00AM at the American Legion Club Post #374 at 4618 So. 139 th St. which serves an all-you-can eat breakfast every Sunday. Everything from made-to-order omelets, bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, etc. Price is $7.00 per adult and $4.00 for kids. As soon as we have had our fill, we will tour to Fremont to visit the antique stores and whatever else we can find. A route map will be provided to each Model A so we are sure to be on the same tour route. Please sign up at the April meeting or call Don or Janet at by May 1. Contact Donna Goddard to add one there. A great game born in 1929 According to Uncle John s Bathroom Reader Calendar, in 1929 toy salesman Edwin Lowe was driving from Georgia to Florida. On the way, he noticed the bright lights of a carnival and decided to investigate. Lowe found only one concession open a tent full of people seated at tables, each with a hand-numbered card and a pile of beans. As the emcee called out numbers, players put beans on the corresponding squares on their cards. If they got five beans in a row, they won a prize. The concessionaire called the game Beano. Weeks later, Lowe tried it at his home, where one winner became so excited that she shouted Bingo! instead of Beano. So that s what Lowe called it. TECH TALK At our March Tech Talk, seventeen Model A ers got steered in the right direction. The rain could not detour us from learning the basics of keeping our A s between the lines.

Thanks also to Gary, Deb and Al for meeting the Krispy Kream donut man and brought us some of his delicious treats.

The Tech Talk will be at Mike Kauss s starting at 10am.

Sandwiches, chips and drinks will be served at lunchtime. Plan to attend and learn more about your car. Do you have questions about your car? Don t be bashful about asking.

6 TECH TALK At our March Tech Talk, seventeen Model A ers got steered in the right direction. The rain could not detour us from learning the basics of keeping our A s between the lines. Thanks to Don Graves for showing us the ropes. Thanks to Janet for braving the down- pour and bringing down the Hot Dogs for some hungry folks. Thanks also to Gary, Deb and Al for meeting the Krispy Kream donut man and brought us some of his delicious treats. At our April 17 th Tech Talk we will review Lubrication of the A, Oil Change and Fluid Levels Check, important items in getting your car ready for spring. The Tech Talk will be at Mike Kauss s starting at 10am. Mike will put one of his cars up on the lift and go thru the location of all grease zerks as well as oil change and the check of radiator water, transmission fluid and differential grease levels. Sandwiches, chips and drinks will be served at lunchtime. Plan to attend and learn more about your car. Do you have questions about your car? Don t be bashful about asking. There will be guys there with years of experience to try and help. St. Patrick s Day Party 36 green and very festive people came out to the Gene Eppley camp to celebrate St. Patrick s day a little early this year. I think a good time was had by all (some more than others) the food was great and bingo was a blast. Thank you to those who helped with the festivities and to all who came out to party. Otto Husak helping Mike Kauss put the cabbage on to cook. Bingo prize opening after we stole away the ones that looked good and found out what they really were.
