1 Announcing. North Alabama s Outstanding Teen Competition 2015 Applications are now being accepted for contestants for the North Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant. The Details. Pageant Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Contestants must arrive by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. The Teen program is being held in conjunction with Miss Wallace State Location Eligibility Entry Fee Admission Wallace State Community College (Hanceville, Alabama) Betty Leeth Haynes Theater located in the Student Center Contestant must be a minimum of thirteen (13) years of age on the first day of the State competition. Contestant may not have graduated from high school before the Miss America's Outstanding Teen National Finals, except for 16 year olds (or younger) who graduated early. Contestant may not turn eighteen (18) years of age on or before July 31 of the year of the National Finals in which she will compete. Contestant may not be eligible to compete in the Miss America Pageant the year they compete in the Nationals of the Teen Pageant. Upon receipt of the application, the contestant information will be verified, and you will be notified of acceptance, additional information, and a schedule of events. 2 Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant COMPETITION AND WARDROBE Just as the America s Outstanding Teen Pageant, the Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen is divided into five phases of competition, including interview, talent, fitness and evening wear. You are responsible for your own competition wardrobe as a contestant. We encourage you to be reasonable in the expenditures for your wardrobe. There will be one production number (Opening Number), and contestants will wear interview outfit for this. Contestants will introduce themselves at this time. Interview (Interview 25% of total score) The interview competition is your first opportunity to meet the judges who will choose the new North Alabama s Outstanding Teen. Standing at a podium, you will have a 7 minute question and answer period with the judges. You may be asked questions regarding your application, resume, career goals, and current events. Judges will observe your personality, validated opinions, speech, and personal appearance. As you enter the room, go to the podium and stand. The judges chairperson will introduce you. The judges have the right to ask you any question. Remember... this is YOUR time with the judges. Be alert, be focused, be articulate, and BE YOURSELF. You will have 30 seconds to wrap up your interview at the end telling the judges anything you want them to know that has not been covered in the interview. Along with the judges, a timekeeper will also be in the room. Talent (35% of total score) You will present a talent presentation of not more than 90 seconds. You must submit your music with your application. Music will only be accepted in the form of a CD. Judges will look for interpretive ability, technical skill level, stage presence, and the integration of elements (costume, choreography, music and props) used in the presentation. Evening Wear/On Stage Question (25% of total score) The evening wear is an on-stage statement of the contestant's personality. For the evening wear competition, you will need an age-appropriate evening gown. You will be judged on overall first impression, personality, sense of confidence, stage presence, walk, and posture, and your ability to answer a question on stage. The on-stage question will be in conjunction with evening wear competition. All contestants will draw a question from the bowl. Lifestyle and Fitness in Sportswear (15% of a contestant's total score) The fitness competition is an on-stage statement of the contestant's fitness and personality. For this competition, contestants will need a pair of khaki shorts and a t-shirt in a solid color of your choice. The criteria for scoring includes: qualities and attributes, overall first impression, statement of strong physical fitness and health, sense of attractiveness and presence, display of energy, charisma and expression and sense of confidence and composure. YOUR YEAR AS MISS NORTH ALABAMA S OUTSTANDING TEEN As the winner of the Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant, you will meet new and interesting people and your civic activities will add to your self-confidence and poise. The pageant directors will be designated to schedule and accompany you to personal appearances and coordinate the Teen Winner s preparation for the Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant. The State Pageant is held each year during the month of March in Sylacauga, AL. MISCELLANEOUS Local Contract/No-Show Agreement Each contestant must be complete local contract that includes the no-show agreement. If you are unable to compete, you must provide us with your decision not to compete at least 48 hours before the day of the preliminary. A doctor's excuse must be provided if absent due to sickness, and only a partial refund will be provided. Failure to abide by these rules will forfeit your entry fee and the Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant will be entitled the full amount of the entry fee. You will not be eligible to compete if the entry fee is not included with your completed entry packet. Scholarships & Awards The Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen Scholarship Preliminary will award a $100 cash educational scholarship and ½ tuition scholarship to Wallace State to the winner. The winner will also receive the official Outstanding Teen Local crown, entry fee for the Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant, and gifts secured from local businesses. Day of Pageant The day of the pageant will be a very long and full day. We will begin with orientation and then continue with learning the opening number. Interviews and talent rehearsals will be held in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided for the contestants. The pageant will provide hostesses to help you with your clothing and getting ready. You must do your own hair and make-up. No one will be allowed back stage to assist you. Please do not ask to leave, once you arrive that morning. This information is being provided to assist interested contestants with the answers to the most commonly asked questions. This is not a finalized list of rules, regulations, or guidelines for the Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Preliminary.

The Cullman Scholarship Organization is organized as a nonprofit organization whose express purposes include: 1) Provision of scholarship funds, 2) representation of North Alabama in the Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant, 3) representation of the sponsors of the Cullman Scholarship Organization, 4) promotion of the Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant. Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen must recognize that for her year of service she will represent North Alabama, Cullman County, the Cullman Scholarship Organization, and its sponsors. It is important that she maintain immaculate personal grooming whether on campus, going shopping, or any public appearances. Miss Outstanding North Alabama Teen will: To ensure efficient management of Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen and her appearances - - Refer all appearance requests to the Directors Refer all press, radio, or television requests to the Directors Honor and fulfill all scheduled appearances for Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen Prepare herself to successfully meet the requirements of the approved appearances Prepare herself in conjunction with the CSO Board of Directors to adequately and successfully compete in the Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant The Cullman Scholarship Organization will: Confirm all appearances and requirements pertaining thereto Forward to Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen an itinerary of each contracted appearance Arrange for press coverage at appearances Screen all appearance requests and protect against undesirable appearances Provide time for study, rest, and vacations in regard to the interest of Miss North Alabama's Outstanding Teen good health and mental well-being Provide for adequate coaching, rehearsal, etc. for the role of Miss North Alabama's Outstanding Teen and her participation in the Miss Teen Alabama Pageant. Assist in the selection of an ample wardrobe. Provide all official photography for the Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen competition, brochure and all public events. In addition Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen is required to appear at the following events during her year of service: Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen Contestant Orientation/Workshop Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant Miss Wallace State Pageant

4 Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen Pageant Miss North Alabama's Outstanding Teen will: 1. Provide her own wardrobe requirement over those provided by the CSO sponsors. 2. Maintain her wardrobe in a cleaned and pressed condition 3. Miss North Alabama's Outstanding Teen may select her own wardrobe for Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen competition, but the Directors must approve it. 4. Select her own talent to be performed at the Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant, but the Directors must approve talent. 5. Maintain the crown in excellent condition and that is will be worn at official appearances. 6. Maintain involvement in a community service project. 7. Maintain personal grooming at all times, which reflects positively, i.e. a conservative wardrobe, no tattoos or body piercings (other than earrings) should be obvious to the public. No drastic changes in hair style (without Director s approval). 8. Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen will maintain a weight, which is appropriate for her height, and body frame, which will be agreed upon by her and the Directors. 9. Show appreciation and write thank you notes to contracting party for all appearances and to all sponsors. 10. Miss North Alabama s Outstanding Teen s behavior must be beyond reproach at all times. 11. Provide her own transportation to and from scheduled appearances, unless the CSO has made other arrangements 12. BE PROMPT. There is never an excuse for being late to any engagement - - this will not be permitted at any time. 13. Never take advantage of the hosts' hospitality. She must never give the impression that she is sick, tired, or bored. She must maintain interest, enthusiasm and sparkle during the entire appearance. Contestant Releases: 1. Hold Harmless Agreement: Agree to hold harmless the Miss Wallace State Pageant/Cullman Scholarship Organization, Wallace State Community College, Miss Alabama s Outstanding Teen Pageant, and the pageant officials and any other representatives of these groups of an and all responsibility of personal injury, theft, and/or damage of personal property possessed by me during the designated time of appearances, meetings, workshop, rehearsals, and competition. 2. Publicity Release: Allow the Miss Wallace State Pageant to post photographs and biographical information on the Miss Teen North Alabama Website. 3. Scholarship/Transcript Release: Miss Teen North Alabama contestants agree to provide the CSO with tuition statements in a timely manner in order for scholarship money to be released. Scholarship money will be available for use beginning the next quarter/semester after participation in the Miss Teen North Alabama preliminary. 4. Participation Release: The contestant will forfeit the entry fee if the contestant is unable to participate after submitting entry information, unless on of the following circumstances occur: A 48-hour notice is given to the Miss Teen North Alabama Pageant Director; That, the participant, has an illness or physical injury that will not allow me to compete. In this instance, the participant must present a doctor s excuse; or A death in the family. I/We have read the agreement, and understand all conditions, rules, and regulations set forth by the Miss North Alabama Organization, and if selected Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen 2015 will be able to follow and fulfill all the rules and regulations set forth in the Local Contract. Furthermore, we agree that the information provided by my/our daughter is correct and she meets the criteria to compete. I understand that if found in violation of any part of this contract, the Directors have the authority to relinquish me of the title of Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen 2015 and a successor will be named. In addition, all awards, scholarships, and prerequisites pertaining thereto will be passed on to the successor, who will receive all of the benefits to which I would have otherwise been entitled.
