Bump! Set! Spike! The Lady Jag volleyball team has been doing very well. They began their season with a tournament in Winside winning all three games. They recently played in the Howells Dodge Tournament sweeping both Shelby-Rising City and Elkhorn Valley in two sets, but the Jags lost the battle to Elgin Pope John and ended up 2-1. Their overall record is 8-1 following a win on Tuesday, September 13 over Wakefield. The team traveled to Logan View on Thursday, September 15. -Emily Ritzdorf
Jaguars keep on rolling! The HD Jaguar football team is playing hard and began their season at East Butler. They defeated them with a 18-6 win. The following Friday the Jaguars faced Osmond and played a great game, but the Jags ended up losing a hard-fought battle Omaha Nation traveled to Jaguar country and they played a good game. The Jags lit up the scoreboard with an overall win of The next stop for the Jags will be on Friday, September 23 at Neligh. -Emily Ritzdorf
One Team, One Mission! The Highway 91 Cyclones Softball Team began their season with a tournament in Wayne, America. They played Wayne, C-CV, and Pierce, coming out of the tournament in second place. The team had their first home game on August 22nd in Leigh against Boone Central, winning by two. The Cyclones have had multiple games since the start of their season and currently have a record of 9-7. Conference is rolling right around the corner for the Lady Cyclones as they will be facing Logan View Scribner-Snyder for their first game. After that, their next big mission before the short season ends will be competing for the win at Districts on October 7th. -Chelsea Bayer
Let s Dance! The Howells-Dodge Dance Team has been busy learning and perfecting dances since June. Their debut was at the Colfax County Fair Dance Competition in Leigh. They competed against four other squads to the routine, DJ Galaxy Mix and brought home the hardware. Their first performance on the field was on Friday, September 2nd against Osmond where they danced to Wings. Last Friday during the game against Omaha Nation, they had their annual Little Jags Dance Camp. All of the little campers were so excited to learn the routine to Me Too. Three fantastic performances are in the books with many more to come. -Chelsea Bayer

Other countries found in Howells Dodge By Marten Terpstra Howells Dodge has two exchange students representing their countries, Simon Kristiansen of Denmark and Marten Terpstra of the Netherlands. These students have the opportunity to learn more about the American culture, American customs and the English language. For the exchange students, this is a great opportunity that not everyone gets. It is really exciting, but also kind of frightening, because you are on the other side of the globe. Some people do not know the language very well and they will struggle making friends and adapting. EF, the exchange program company, has to do a background check with the host family and find the perfect host family for the students. The students do not choose the family the family, chooses the students. After a bit, a lot of students will become homesick. If you notice a change in attitude in any of the two exchange students, just ask them how they are doing and if they are homesick, because they most likely will be homesick. When they have been here for a couple of months they will experience a culture shock because some of the things you will see as normal, they don t. Ask them to hang out sometime if you notice that they aren t doing as well as they should. They are homesick and the best thing to do when they feel homesick is talk to them, hang out with them and do not remind them of their home country, but let them see how great America can be. Do fun stuff with them, take them somewhere. If an exchange student is caught doing something that is against the law, they will be sent back to their home country, their visa will be taken away and they aren t allowed entrance to the USA for 10 years because of EF s zero tolerance policy. Exchange students are also willing to share information about their country and their culture just like you should share American culture and American traditions with them so they know what to expect. In the Netherlands, we do not have Thanksgiving, Halloween, or American football. We have different types of food. Some foods here we do not know. We also have different customs and traditions. Thank you for reading Bedankt voor het lezen Tak for læsning HDC welcomes Simon Kristiansen who is living with the Good family of Dodge and Marten Terpstra whose host family is the Pieper family of Dodge!
