1 CR Weekly News Update Friday, October 26 DON'T MISS COUNCIL ROCK NORTH vs COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH - TONIGHT, 7 PM AT WALT SNYDER STADIUM! OCTOBER 26 REDISTRICTING PROCESS UPDATE On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, the Redistricting Committee met to review feedback from the October 1st public session and the community survey. They reviewed the information and worked with demographer, Cropper GIS, to consider and examine revisions to the proposal presented on October 1st. The committee will continue some additional analysis next week at a closed meeting on Tuesday, October 30, We anticipate releasing the updated proposal as well as a survey link to gather feedback sometime after October 30th. The Redistricting Committee will meet on Monday, November 5th to review additional public feedback and make any necessary revisions to the proposal before it is presented to the Board on November 15th at the regular Board meeting. 2 Chancellor Center, Historic Classroom 1 NEWS FROM AROUND THE DISTRICT CR CONCURRENT SUBURBAN ONE SPORTS ATHLETES Congratulations to Council Rock North's Nikki Jackson and Council Rock South's Chelsea Jameson for each being named a Suburban One Sports Athlete this month. Nikki was recognized for field hockey and Chelsea for soccer. Suburban One Sports Athletes are celebrated not only for their outstanding performance on the field/court, but also because of what they accomplish and/or overcome outside of their sport. Congratulations again to both of our October Suburban One Sports Athletes! Read Nikki's Suburban One Write Up Read Chelsea's Suburban One Write-Up NEWTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL'S TEAM IMPACT HOLDS OLYMPIAD It was a day that combined brains and brawn with culture and competition in the name of ancient history for Newtown Middle School s Team Impact. As part of their study of Ancient Greek citystates, students spent weeks exploring the many ways in which the citizens of Sparta, Megara, Athens, Corinth, and Argos developed unique identities as contributors to both ancient and modernday society. Their studies culminated in a day of sport and showmanship as the Team Impact Olympics were held on October 19 in and around the school building. Organized by Social Studies teacher Mr. Bob McCarthy, the team assigned each homeroom to take on the identity of a team of Olympians from a different city-state. Each homeroom designed a flag to signify its identity, wrote a cheer to spur team spirit and motivation, and coordinated a team uniform. All of these artistic masterpieces were prominently displayed at the Team Impact Olympics opening ceremonies, during which the competitors from the city-states were reminded about the origins and purpose of the ancient games, the importance of sportsmanship and fair play, and the purpose that the games served for the people of each city-state: shifting citizens focus away from battle and war for a brief time. Once the long-awaited games began, students competed in events like a javelin toss, discus throw, shotput, hoplite relay race, and a game of quick-thinking known as Knuckle Bones. Directed by

3 city-state leaders, students navigated through the modern-day Olympia, site of the ancient games. When the final scores were tallied, it was the city-state of Sparta that proved victorious in the overall competition. The entire Team Impact community came together in celebration of one another s talents and abilities through the Olympic events, and their studies came to life through a show of strength and smarts. 5 Friday Football Frenzy: Council Rock North High School cbsloc.al CREF NEWS AND EVENTS SAVE THE DATE - CREF PRESENTS THE HARLEM WIZARDS; SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17 The world-famous Harlem Wizards will visit Council Rock South on Saturday, November 17 for an afternoon of great fun and fundraising. The Wizards will play a game against TEAM ROCK - a team of Council Rock School District teachers, principals, and administrators. This offers Council Rock families from across the school district a unique opportunity to come together as a community for a game that promises FUN for all. The event will feature a variety of fun interactive extras to complement the Wizards' dazzling demonstration of hoops artistry: Pregame "Wiz Kids" warm-up, contests, comedy, awesome slamdunks, audience participation, merchandise giveaways, and more. The game will conclude with the Wizards' signature dance extravaganza that will have the crowd on their feet! 10 LOWER MAKEFIELD POLICE OFFICER AND HIS K - 9 PARTNER IN CONTEST TO WIN NEW POLICE VEHICLE Office Jason Landis of the Lower Makefield K-9 Unit and his K-9 partner, Titan were entered into a nationwide contest to win a brand new fully equipped K-9 Chevy Tahoe police vehicle with a value of $50, Office Landis and Titan are the only Bucks County Pennsylvania team entered into this contest. The Lower Makefield K-9 Unit responds to scent and patrol related jobs, such as bomb detections, throughout the county when requested by other police departments and can be seen in person at many local events that include our students. The way the contest works is simple, the K-9 team with the most votes at the end of the month wins! 1 vote per person every 24 hours.
