We hope you and the members of your Junior Branch and Court are planning to attend. Enclosed are the Competition Guidelines and Entry Sheets for the following contests or competitions: Arts/Crafts Essay Photography/Collage Spelling Bee Science Fair 2017 Convention Theme Young Authors Banner * Speech Outstanding Junior Knight Poetry Outstanding Junior Daughter Debate, Talent Show, and Quiz Bowl teames must be submitted by the State and District Director and Directress of each participating State or District. *The Banner Contest is a unit competition. Please adhere to the deadlines indicated on the various contest and competition forms, and be sure to include a telephone number and/or an address on your sign-up forms. Essays and Young Authors Entry sheets and all other forms are due in to the National Office by May 15, Please be advised that Essays and Young Authors Contest/Competition Entry sheets will not be accepted on site. 2 ARTS AND CRAFTS ENTRY FORM ARTS AND CRAFTS RULES AND REGULATIONS Junior s Name(s) must be listed on the Competition Registration Form or selected during online registration beforee arriving at Convention. Deadline: May 15, Piecee must depict Convention Theme Theme: One God, One Lord, One Church! 2. Judging shall include the following: Originality of piece Clarity of piece Neatness 3. On the day of judging Friday July 10, 2015 Piece must be in designated area between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Junior's name or Branch/Court number should not appear anywhere on the art or craft being submitted. A competition number will be assigned at the convention.
3 PHOTOGRAPHY AND COLL ENTRY FORM RULES AND REGULATIONS CONVENTION THEME: One God, One Lord, One Church! Junior s Name(s) must be listed on the Competition Registration Form or selected during online registration before arriving at Convention. Deadline: May 15, Entries must adhere to the Convention Theme. 2. Judging shall include the following: Originality Clarity Neatness 3. Size of display should be 22 x 28 inches. 4. On the day of judging Friday, July 10, 2015: Photo display or collage must be in designated area between 11:00 a.m.. and 12:30 P.M. Junior's name or Branch/ /Court number should not appear anywhere on the display. A competition number will be assigned at the Convention
4 SCIENCE FAIR ENTRY FORM PROJECT TITLE UNIT NO. JR. KNIGHT/JR. DAUGHTER S NAME No Junior may enter more than one science project. The project must be current work of the Junior registered for the competition. The name of the Junior must appear only on the back of the project with the Junior s unit name and their hotel room number. Juniors must demonstrate to judges, throughh written reports, pictures, charts, graphs, diagrams, that the research was accomplished. Juniors mustt be present during judging. No commercial models or kits will be allowed as exhibits No live animals, preserved animals, dangerous chemical or equipment cell cultures and microorganisms may be exhibited at the competition. Pictures of research previously done may be used onn the display. All projects will be judged on Scientific Thought, Creative Ability, Clarity Experimental Design, Understanding, Dramatic Value and Technical Skill. Juniors must enter only one category: Astronomy; Behavioral Science; Biology Botany; Chemistry; Computer Applications; Earth and Space Science; Engineering; Environmental Science; Mathematics; Physics; Zoology 1. Will your project require electricity? Yes No (If yes, you will be expected to provide at least 9ft. of extension cord) 2. Entry Agreement: I enter this project at my own risk and will not hold the Knights of Peter Claver/ Ladies Auxiliary or Junior Division responsiblee for the loss or damage to the exhibit or harm to myself. This project will not include any live or preserved animals. This project will nott have any potentially dangerous chemicals or equipment. It is my understanding that pictures may be displayed, if any of the above criteria has been done before the convention. I also agree to remove my project at the designated time. 5 YOUNG AUTHOR S COMPETITION ENTRY FORM MANUSCRIPT TITLE GENRE Poetry Narrative Informative Introduction: The purpose of this competition is to spark the imagination of writers that will culminate into a real life experience of publishing a book. Rules and Guidelines 1. The Young Authors Competition is limited to Junior Knights and Junior Daughters Ages 7 15 years of age. 2. The book must be the original work of the author. 3. Acceptable styles of writing are poetry, story (narrative) or informational. 4. The book may be typed, word processed, or handwritten in manuscript or cursive. If someone other than the author helps with the book, credit must be given to the typist. The typist must not edit the book in any way. 5. If an author chooses to illustrate his/ /her book, the illustrations may be from newspapers, magazines, the internet, or the author s own work. However, another Junior or adult cannot produce artwork to go in the author ss book. 6. Each young author s manuscript must have a typed identification card fixed to the inside cover. The information included in the card must include: Author/illustrator s name Grade Level Branch/Court Name and Unit Number Commander/Counselors Name Manuscript Title Genree of Manuscript (Poetry, Narrative, Informative) ) 7. 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Place Winners will be selected at each age level 7 9, 10 12, Manuscripts are due in the National Office by May 15 th, Winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet at the Junior National Convention. NO MANSCRIPTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON SITE!
6 SPEECH RULES, REGULATIONS,, AND ENTRY FORM Theme: One God, One Lord,, One Church! 1. Speech should be 1 2 minutes long. Speeches less than one minute or more than two minutes will be disqualified. 2. Criteria for judging: Interest Level Organization Transition Verbal Support Effectiveness of Delivery Eye Contact Enthusiasm Overall Effectiveness 3. Note cards and props may be used. 4. Speech and Entry Form must be submitted together by Deadline Junior s Name(s) must be listed on the Competition Registration Form before arriving at Convention. Deadline: May 15, 2015

Deadline: May 15, The Poetry must be presented on the Convention Theme. 2. Juniors will be judged on the following criteria: Originality Presentation Introduction Time Limit Voice and Diction Interpretation Conference Theme 3. The time limit for each presentation will not exceed 2 minutes. Junior will be disqualified if the 2 minutes is exceeded. Juniors must present judges with the information below at the time of competition.
8 ESSAY RULES, REGULATIONS, AND ENTRY FORM Please complete this information and attach it to the Essay: WORK TELEPHONE ( ) 1. Essay must be written on the theme of the Conference Theme: One God, One Lord,, One Church! 2. Essay must be legibly handwritten or typed. 3. Essays will be judged on the following criteria: a. Theme b. Originality c. Spelling/Punctuation d. Sentence Structure/Grammar Length of paper should meet the following criteria: Age Group Minimum Maximum Number of Words Number of Words Up e. Word usage/ /Vocabulary f. Organization of essay: introduction, body and conclusion 4. Junior s name, Commander s/counselor s name, Branch/Court name and number, city, state or church name, should not be mentioned or appear in the essay. 5. The essay should be stapled to a copy of this sheet ass it identifiess the Junior' s Name, Grade Level, Branch/Court Name and Number, City and State, and Commander/Counselor Name 6. Essay participation is limited to Juniors attending the Convention in Orlando, Florida. 7. Deadline for Essays is May 15, All essays are too be sent to the National Office. Use the cover sheet provided for the essays.
9 SPELLING BEE ENTRY FORM AND RULES THE SPELLING BEE PARTICIPATION IS LIMITED TO JUNIORS S 7 14 YEARS OF ***Each branch and court is allowed one (1) contestant in each age group to compete*** 1. The Spelling Bee words have been selected from words thatt are age/grade appropriate. Word listingss may be obtained electronically by downloading from the www. kofpc.org website or by from the National Counselor or Director General. 2. Words will be pronounced according to diacritical markings in the Merriam Webster s Collegiatee Dictionary 11 1h Edition. 3. Pronunciation If a word has two or more acceptablee pronunciations, both pronunciations will be given by pronouncer. 5. A contestant may request the pronouncer to repeat the word or use it in a sentence before beginning to spell the word. 6. Judges may disqualify any contestant who ignores a request to start spelling. 7. A contestant may start over only once when spelling a word. 8. Upon missing the spelling of a word, the contestant is eliminated. The next word on the pronouncer s list iss given to the next contestant. 4. Contestants are allowed to pronounce the word once before spelling it. TIE BREAKER When the contestants are reducedd to two, eachh are called a word on the pronouncer s list. If both contestants spell the words correctly, the pronouncer will begin the tie breaker list. If a speller misspells a tie breaker word, the second speller is to be given the same word. If word is spelled correctly, that speller is the winner. However, if both spellers miss the word, the pronouncer is to continue until a winner is determined. PROTEST Questions relating to the spelling of a word should be referred to the judge immediately. A contestant should file a protest before receiving the next words. Any protest after a word has been given to the speller or another speller or another speller will not be accepted. THE JUDGES DECISION SHALL BE FINAL ON ALL QUESTIONS.
10 2017 JUNIOR NATIONAL CONVENTION THEME ENTRY FORM Our Convention Activity Committee will select our Junior National Convention themee and symbol design. Please return your suggestion by May 15, 2015 with competition registration information to the National Office. The selected suggestion will receivee award recognition The Junior National Convention theme suggestion should be seven (7) words or less. Theme suggestions going over seven (7) words will be disqualified. Please write your 2017 Junior National Convention theme suggestion: 2017 CONVENTION THEME SUGGESTION DESIGN

On the day of judging Friday, July 10, 2015: You will be responsible for setting up your banner display. Banner must be in designated area between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 P.M. Branch/Court number should not appear anywhere on the banner. A competition number will be assigned at thee Convention
