Parent Signature:
17 Hello, my name is Miriam Montes de Oca and I am the dance team coach at DDCES. I am excited that you have decided to support DDCES by trying out for the Dancing Doll-Phins Dance Team. Please read ALL of the information in this packet to make sure you are able to commit to the time and financial obligations demanded of dance team members and parents. I am looking forward to working with a talented and hard-working team this year. As a member of the Dancing Doll-Phins, you will have the opportunity to perform at selected school activities and community events. I am excited for this opportunity and looking forward to working with each one of you! Sincerely, Miriam Montes de Oca --- Dancing Doll-Phins Dance Team Guidelines and Obligations ATTENDANCE: Only the reasons listed below are excused from any practice or activity. 1.) Personal illness 2.) Death in the family 3.) Special school activity - Must be discussed and approved by the coach in advance 4.) Vacation - With parent's note ahead of time. Please schedule trips on school recess days. Please note that even an excused absence could cost you a performance depending on the date and length of the absence. A team member who is excused from a practice or event will not be permitted to perform with the team until she knows the routine to the coach s satisfaction. A Dancer CANNOT miss more than 4 practices throughout the year It is REQUIRED that each dancer and a parent/guardian be present for all parent meetings. If a member knows in advance that they will be late or will be missing a practice/performance, they are to advise the coach immediately. Team members
18 MUST be present at every mandatory practice for the entire practice time in order to be eligible to participate in upcoming events. If you miss a practice, you must make up the material you missed BEFORE the next practice. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CATCH UP! --- All rehearsals will start on time. Rehearsal Expectations Every dance team member is responsible for his/her own belongings at rehearsal. This includes bringing it to practice as well as putting it away at the end of rehearsal No food or drinks are permitted during rehearsal (exceptions for water, Gatorade, and Powerade) except for on designated breaks. Every member is responsible for bringing ample quantity of water to practice. Meals should be eaten before rehearsals. Please bring healthy snacks. This is important to your overall energy as a performer. Every member is responsible for her own physical fitness and health. Dancers are not allowed to eat junk food, fast food, or drink soda during practice times. All members of the dance team are expected to run, condition, and dance throughout the practice season. No cell phone use during practice times. Please be courteous to each team member and turn your cell phone off. Respect for the Coach, choreographers and other members of the team is a must. There will be no talking back to an instructor in the event of a correction. --- Disciplinary Actions Failure to follow the Dancing Doll-Phins Team Code of Conduct may result in, but is not limited to the following actions: Sitting out a practice or performance Suspension/Probation from team
19 Removal from team Performances On your performance schedule there will be an arrival time listed and an estimated performance time. Dancers MUST be at the performance by the ARRIVAL TIME! Dancers MUST arrive dressed in full uniform, hair and makeup specified by the Coach and ready to perform. If the Dancer fails to show up performance ready at the arrival time, the dancer WILL NOT PERFORM. Dance Team will have about 7-9 performances for the school year, which will include two routines (one routine the first half of the year and another one the other half). --- Uniforms/Practice Attire Dancewear is required at ALL practices. Uniform is as follows: Doll-Phins leotard, shorts or leggings and tan jazz shoes. There will be an order form for the uniforms. If proper attire is not worn, you will have to sit out of practice! Uniforms must be kept clean and in good condition. Members may not wear jewelry or nail polish during a performance. This is a team. We need to look like a uniformed team. --- Dedication There is a level of commitment required to be a part of the Dance Team. You must have a desired level of commitment not just for yourself, but for your ENTIRE team. Being on this team means you depend on all of your other teammates to be at practice consistently and to do their part in having the knowledge of their routine. If at any time you are not doing your part as a productive member of this team, you will be suspended from the Dance Team. PROBLEMS/ISSUES: We expect everyone representing our teams to be positive and uplifting. If you do have a problem, we need to know about it in order to help resolve the situation peacefully.
