2 ACTIVE LIVING EXPO Promotional Events Our Volunteers have been out at local events promoting the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and recruiting volunteers! In September they attended The Active Living Expo and The Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament! If you d like to join & help out watch for s with dates of local promotions throughout the fall! 3 September 2019 Edition 1 Fall Volunteer Open House Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to our fall open house! We were happy to meet all of you that were able to come out and we hope you had a great time! For those unable to attend we look forward to meeting you at future events! 3

4 September 2019 Edition 1 Event Updates VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED! We are happy to announce that volunteer sign-up is strong but, we re not full yet! We are actively recruiting volunteers in all areas. Let your family, friends, and neighbours know about this amazing volunteering opportunity! If you know anyone would who like to be involved please ask them to register online at our website, COMMITTEE NEWS The directors of the committees are being finalized and you will be notified of the committee you have been put on at the beginning of November! Once notified your director will be in touch for introductions, scheduling, and any updates regarding your committee. VOLUNTEERS KITS Your volunteer kit will include a volunteer pin, accreditation pass, volunteer handbook, and volunteer uniform. The uniform consists of a jacket, a 1/2 zip pullover, and a polo all with the 2019 Scotties logo. To compliment your uniform we ask all volunteers to wear black pants on duty. We will have a pick-up date closer to the event at the Sydney Curling Club where you can get your kits! There will be information about save the date in upcoming newsletters, so keep an eye out! 4

JENNIFER COLLINS - VICE-CHAIR OF HOSTING HOMETOWN: Sydney, NS FUN FACT: I am a Walt Disney world Alumni FAVORITE CURLER/TEAM: Colleen Jones FAVOURITE SPORT: Hockey, basketball, baseball, curling, tennis - especially playoff season!!! HIDDEN TALENT: I can make a mean chocolate cake with boiled icing but, I do not do it often because I could also eat the whole thing at once MARY TULLE - VICE-CHAIR OF SPECIAL EVENTS HOMETOWN: Came from Halifax almost 9 years ago, Coxheath is home now FUN FACT: Started in the tourism industry as a chamber maid at the Banff Springs hotel. I never leave a hotel room without leaving a gratuity for the housekeeping staff FAVOURITE CURLER/TEAM: Team NS with Christina Black! FAVORITE SPORT: Hockey HIDDEN TALENT: Can whip up an hors d oeuvre plate faster than anyone I know PAUL MACDONALD- VICE-CHAIR OF SPECIAL EVENTS HOMETOWN: Sydney Mines, NS FUN FACT: Sang in a boys choir FAVOURITE CURLER/TEAM: Jennifer Jones FAVOURITE SPORT: Baseball HIDDEN TALENT: Great Cook 5

6 Nova Scotia Through the Years Nova Scotia won their first Canadian Women s National Championship in It was also the first official Scott Tournament of Hearts - now Scotties Tournament of Hearts - ever. The team consisted of lead Barbara Jones- Gordon, second Monica Jones, third Kay Smith, and skip Colleen Jones. From then Nova Scotia has proved to be a strong province with world class competitors. Below are some of the teams that have had the honour to represent this great province and could potentially be the faces of Nova Scotia at the 2019 Scotties!
