1 Tiny Town Talk Cassie The Pumpkin Patch Frenzy The Deer Creek - Lamont Elementary school traveled to the Rustic Roots pumpkin patch on October 28th just outside of Lamont. The trip was prekindergarten through sixth grade and thought to be a stressful journey with so many students. There was a variety of fun things to do, the pumpkin patch had corn box, a maze, and even a hay ride. There were also two different bouncy houses and hay bales to climb all over. The kids of DCLA loved climbing all over the hay bales and sliding down the slides. They also loved playing in the corn box. Incase you don t know what a corn box is, it s similar to a sand box, but only with corn, which fit the theme of the event pretty well. Mrs. Johns, third grade teacher, said a lot of learning was involved during the trip. The students received a more in depth discussion about the life cycle of pumpkins and just a little information about growing and harvesting sunflowers. Mrs. Botts, sixth grade teacher, stated, the kids were all well behaved and there were plenty of stations, space, and activities for the kids to do. The teachers of DCLA said that the trip as a whole was a success, the students got to experience first hand a pumpkin patch and they supported a first year local business. The trip was two hours long, and they enjoyed every minute of the cool breeze and hay rides. They hope to do it again next year with the thought of learning more. Being Thankful There is always something to be thankful for. Whether it s waking up to the shining sun, or getting a new puppy. I am thankful for my family always being there for me, supporting me in life, school, decisions I make, and the college I choose to go to. Growing up I was taught to be thankful for even the little things in life, like a lady bug landing on your hand. My mom would have to be my number one supporter, she is always there even when things get though and I am so blessed and very thankful to have the privilege to call her my mom. I am also thankful for my basketball team. They are like my second family, and they are always there and will have your back no matter what the situation is. I am thankful for waking up and going to sleep at night, and for having a roof over my head. But most of all, I am thankful for the man upstairs that created me and shows me unending love.

2 Taking the Opportunity For the Love of Fall Fall, Fall as come around for many years, even before I was born. It has always been here since we gave Fall its name. It has always been an interesting season for me. The wonders and the mysteries to Fall is an exciting subject. My favorite thing about Fall is when the leaves begin to wither, and the cold starts to blow right in. The chills that run through my soul from the true enlightenment of Fall. Every day in Fall brings a better day to me, realizing my life is complete in this wonderful time of year. I sometimes catch myself petrified by the wonders of Fall. I love the cold that Fall brings. The wonders are thrilling and amazing. One day, I ll see Behind the Scenes of Quiz Bowl Quiz Bowl, the first thing that comes to mind is challenging questions. This brought an interest for a particular student., Albany Blackburn. Albany joined Quiz bowl to compete in academics and to bring her knowledge to the Quiz Bowl team of DCLA. Her goal for joining is to improve her knowledge. She also enjoys being on a great team as well as being with her teammates which are Tanya, Isaiah, Austin, Brayden Emily, Cole and Kelly Riddle, Quick Bowl coach. The Quiz Bowl team of DCLA has two rivals, Kremlin and Medford. Albany s best category is Mathematics, but Albany has had a few challenging questions in the subject. Her hardest was related to Calculus. There will be a few contests in that the Quiz Bowl team will be competing in later in the year. At regionals last Saturday, November 12th, the Quiz Bowl team of DCLA won against Okeene but ended with a defeat against Timberlake and Drummond. Best of luck in the future DCLA Quiz Bowl team.

3 By: Alison What Am I Thankful For? Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving in America is a day set aside to give thanks for the blessing of harvest, and for the preceding year. We reflect on the happy times of the year and eat..a lot. That being said, Thanksgiving means more than that to me. I believe that thanksgiving is about giving thanks to God; who made it possible for us to have a great harvest and a wonderful year. So when people ask me, Hey Alison, What are you thankful for? I say, I m thankful that God is who he is and for Thanksgiving dinner. Elementary Basketball The Deer Creek -Lamont elementary basketball season has begun and the teams are playing to win. They have participated in the Hillsdale tournament, as well as the Pond Creek-Hunter tournament, which occurred November 8 th - 13 th. At the Pond Creek-Hunter tournament, the girls team won the Medford game and lost to McCord and Pond Creek-Hunter. The boys team lost to McCord, Covington Douglass, and Medford; however they are growing and improving on a daily basis. The boys and girls teams are coached by Mrs. Stinnett, who works to instill in them the importance of teamwork and accountability. So far I believe we have grown and learned confidence in ourselves, and have already shown signs of strength she said. Both teams work very hard to be the best that they can be. Coach Stinnett said that the boys and girls teams are very fast, which can be a strength and weakness, but both teams give it all they have. 4 Speeches and Movies and Convention, Oh My! The Best of Fall My absolute favorite part about fall is the feeling I get when the weather finally switches over. Living in Oklahoma, you know that it might be December before it stops feeling like summer. Fall, to me, makes every day just a little bit sweeter. It get s chilly outside, the leaves all turn to dark, richer shades, the coffee tastes better, and the time of the year is just much more friendly because Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. The town starts putting up holiday decorations and sitting on your swing on your front porch wrapped up in a blanket with a good book is a much more appealing thought when it s not 85 degrees outside. It was a busy end to October and has been a very busy start to November for the DCLA FFA Chapter! The officer team was thrilled to be able to end October in Indianapolis, Indiana for the National FFA Convention! The one word Haley Braden, Chapter Chaplain, used to describe the entire trip was fun and here is why! Road-trips are always great, I love getting to travel. That being said, it made it all so much better that I got to make this trip with an amazing officer team! Haley was talking about convention and how many people from different states that she got the opportunity to meet. When asked what her favorite part about convention was she said, Experiencing new things not only for myself, but with my fellow officers and bonding with them along the way. Now to kick off November, Molly Blaser recently competed in a speech contest. The contest theme was to promote conservation practices, so Molly wrote her essay accordingly and her topic was Rotation Grazing. Now don t get me wrong, I love to talk, but giving a rehearsed speech is by no means an easy task! Molly is a pro and has been doing this for years. There is always room for improvement and Molly said if she could change one thing, she wouldn t bobble her 6th paragraph. She s so smooth when she gives it though, I have no doubt you would ever notice. Molly wanted to give some advice to first time speech givers, Just relax, as long as you did your best, that s really all that matters! Also, remember to slow down, this is not a race! Molly also let us in on an ag chapter secret FFA Movie Night! They ll have chili and all sorts of goodies! Molly, personally, is hoping that Las Vegas Vacation will be the

5 Thanksgiving is like Heaven! Thanksgiving at our house is like being in heaven! Our whole family gathers at my grandparents house, and every one of our family members brings all kinds of varieties of food! We usually have turkey, mashed potatoes, tamales, menudo, rice, beans and all other kinds of American and authentic Mexican food. Before we eat we all gather up at a huge table and say what we are thankful for. We pray and once we are done praying we dig in and enjoy the amazing food! Thanksgiving at our house is definitely like heaven! If you ever decide to come to my house during Thanksgiving you will know how amazing the food is! Jr. High start season Jr. high had a rocky start playing against Garber in the first round of the DCLA tournament. Both, boys and girls lost, but didn't give up and kept on playing until the end! The Jr. high team had a rough start but hopefully they will get back up from the loss and expect a win next game! Coach Jason Collins goal on every tournament is to win at least two games if not more. He knows that his team is full of great kids, and they all have worked and trained very hard. A question was given to Collins If you could choose a NBA player to play in our Jr. High basketball team who would it be? his answer was Michael Jordan, because he is the greatest basketball player in the NBA history!. In this tournament he thinks that DCLA s biggest rivals would be Medford because they have been very good competitor against DCLA for the past couple of years. One last question was asked to Jason Collins What are your goals and expectations for this year? and his response was I am hoping to have a successful year. In Jr High its not always about win or losses, it is about effort and giving the concepts of my system going forward, about building individual skills and team unity. 6 The real season of the DCLA Lady Eagles high school basketball team is coming up so fast. This year, the Lady Eagles have a total of 6 scrimmages to prepare them for this upcoming season, starting November 29th. The team is super excited for what this year has to offer. Taylor Tingley, a junior stated that the previous scrimmages against Coyle, Pawhuska, and Waukomis were each unique in their own way. She mentions that the teams all have challenged us and are helping to shape the team for the season. When the team traveled to Coyle for a scrimmage, they had some ups and downs. Taylor explains what aspects has helped the team after facing Coyle. She stated that the coach got onto the girls because they didn t communicate to each other. Now that this has been evaluated, she believes that the team has gotten a lot better at communication, but still needs to be worked on. Taylor also felt as if the Lady Eagles did a really good job on the majority of the scrimmages. The strengths of the team has to be our speed, hard work, skill, and our positive attitudes, she commented. Blocking out is defiantly one of our major aspects that we lack on the court. Communication on defense is another thing we must get better at. The team is improving throughout the year. Each time the Lady Eagles play together, the better they become. Taylor stated that she is so excited to see everyone grow as an individual and as a team. Taylor explains the two teams that she is most looking forward to. Both Pond Creek-Hunter and Timberlake are two good teams. She explains how playing against these two teams will challenge us and make the team stronger. The Lady Eagles look forward to this season and hope all the fans will be there to cheer them on! Fall The Most Beautiful Season. Fall is a wonderful season. The leaves are turning a beautiful color and once the season hits, the leaves begin to fall into a gorgeous pile. The weather is magnificent, as well. Don t get me wrong, I absolutely love summer. The hot weather gets a little tiring after a while, and when fall rolls around is when the weather is perfect. There is also so much going on this time of year. Football season arrives and who doesn t love football? So many memorable nights happen on football Fridays. October rolls around and here comes Halloween. Again, who doesn t love Halloween? You get to see all the little kids dressed up, having a wonderful time and as you get older, you tend to enjoy giving candy instead of receiving. Fall is an all-around great season to be a part of.
