Homecoming There is no place like home...coming!

1 The CV Bulletin Newspaper Is Back! It s a new school year and a new paper! We continue to be in need of help: writers, comic artists and just plain artists! Homecoming 2017 For ten dollars a ticket, homecoming was a blast. Once you walked the yellow brick road like Dorothy to the gym, everyone was decked out in fancy designer dresses and suits. The song choices had everyone dancing under the lights from the DJ stand. Thank you to SmugMug for taking the awesome photos! Check them out under the High School CV page. Another big thank you to the chaperones (Mr. Hammill, Mr. Vanderslice, Mrs. Kogut, Mrs. Wheeler..etc..) for chaperoning the dance. There is no place like home...coming!

2 Guest Writer Sp0t: One Stormy Night One stormy night, Alicia stayed out too late riding her bike. She was miles from her home and it was pouring rain and cold. Her first thought was to look for shelter. A little bit up the rocky road, was an old, rickety home. The address was 666 Elm Street. Putting the thought that Freddy Krueger could be inside or that it was Satan s number, she pushed the door open. Alicia gracefully stepped inside and the door slammed shut behind her. Got to look for candles to light this place, she thought. In the kitchen, she frantically opened all the cupboards, no candles she found no candles after giving a thorough search downstairs. She climbed the stairs and opened the bathroom door, and there was a young girl of ten, dead in the bathtub, blood all over, the smell of acid in the air. She quickly got out, slammed the door, and tried the next bedroom. A body hung up bumped into her that was hanging in the doorway. The lady s intestines were all gutted out. She never felt so sick before. She knew she had to get out of the house, before something happened to her, it was her gut instinct, if she still had them she rushed downstairs to the front door and it was locked from the outside. Same with the back door. It was, then she realized this place had no windows, even thought she saw light filter through a glass pane.. Anyway, the lesson is, never ever go into Satan s house, because, you ll never come out! -Anonymous

3 The Legend of Suicide Hill Huph, Puph, Huph, Puph, Patrick wheezed as he and James ran up the suicide hill. Come on, we barely started, reminded James. Patrick stopped for a breathe I don t, pant, know why, pant, Mr. Stafford, pant, makes us, pant, run the, pant, whole hill! You signed up for cross country, did you not expect to run? questioned James. I didn t think there was going to be this much running, I thought maybe a lap or two then conversing, answered Patrick. Its called cross country, he enunciated the country. Ugh, fine, but it takes forever to complete it. groaned Patrick. How about I tell the Legend of Suicide Hill? purposed James. Yes please do! exclaimed Patrick. The two began running again. It was when the school had just been built, and classes had begun, there was one unhappy person, his name was, George, he was slightly crazy, he wasn t happy with a new school coming in. One day during classes, he went on a rampage, he smashed windows and he vandalized the school by taking paint and painting everywhere! When the teachers found out what was going on they called the sheriff, and he showed up to investigate, but George caught wind of it and ran he ran out of the school, he ran away, he ran into the nearby woods that were located at the edge of the hill, began James. He ran onto suicide hill! cut in Patrick. Yes. And he never was found. Years later they cut down the trees and created the trails we know today, and at first they were for recreational purposes, but they started to take too long so they used it for cross country. But one day as a group of runners were heading along a trail when they saw another trail, though it was much smaller, they decided to go on it and see where it went, as they continued on the trail, it got smaller and smaller till it was difficult to walk on without stepping on untrampled grass and twigs. As the group continued they saw a strange looking shed, they walked up to it and looked through a window, they saw a face for a split second. They backed away.

4 The Legend of Suicide Hill (continued) Continued: The friends decided to go back to the main trail and finish up their running, but as they were briskly walking away they heard, Don t leave, I know a shortcut that will save you the work and get you the special snack that the first people to finish get, they all turned, they had only heard of the legend of the special snack because they never finished in time to get even a glimpse of the snack. I would like to know, I want the special snack, said one of the girls. Her friends agreed and walked back over to the shed and they still couldn t see the figure that spoke, It's a secret though so you must swear to not tell anyone else it's only for those like you. continued James. Hey look a small trail over their, we should go through and try to find the shed and learn this sacred passageway so we can finish, Patrick said as he walked towards the trail. No, I m not done with the story, and you don t go off onto random trails if you want to finish in time, he grabbed Patrick's collar. Ugh, fine! But please continue, moaned Patrick. 5 Continued: Thank you, James continued, the girl who had spoken ran up to the shed and as she did the floorboards gave way and she fell through, Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! They all screamed. All of the friends ran up and looked down, down there was a large drop that seemed to drop forever and ever, they couldn t see the girl, one down the rest to go, the menacing voice said. Just then the door to the shed broke open and a man jumped out he was holding an old rusty axe, in the confusion two more people accidentally fell down the hole, while the others ran away, he continued after them, there were only three left out of the six that started. Come back! Don t you want to know the short cut? He smiled menacingly at them. NOOOOOOOO! Screamed back one of the boys. They kept on running until one a boy tripped by the time they realized what happened the person had caught up to the down boy and he they kept running not wanting to see what happened to their friend. Oh those poor people, Patrick intergected. Ya ya, James responded, as they were running they found the actual trail and began turned and continued running, until a girl ran out of breath and started falling behind, Come on keep running he s getting closer, the girl kept falling behind until the man caught up, the final person never looked back, he kept running and running, he felt tired and kept running, until he reached the exit and the man chasing him disappeared. He was the last person to exit, when he tried to explain what happened no one believed him, and his friends were never heard, or seen again. And they say that if you find a path that could lead you astray, stay away unless you want to end up like that group of friends. James finished the story. I m so happy that I didn t go on that small trail, Patrick commented, That story sounds a little far fetched. Its called a legend for a reason, responded James, Oh look a we re done, thank goodness. I thought that story would explain why it's called suicide hill, questioned Patrick. Oh that stories easy, answered James, It's called that because the cross country kids have to do suicides. Suicides? asked Patrick confused. The things where you start at point A and when the whistle blows you run to Point B and- Oh I know what suicides are, cut in Patrick, I know them as torture. Okay line up time for suicides, yelled Mr. Stafford. Speaking of torture, here we go, Patrick whispered to James. By: Tara Pitcher The End

6 New Teachers at CV Middle and High School Miss.Taylor Her favorite thing about teaching middle school is the students. For the most part, she says, they are still very kind and open to one another. They try new techniques and activities in the classroom. There is a great sense of community that she enjoys. The funniest thing that has happened in her classroom is when she was student teaching, one 7th grader taught the hip language. Her favorite books are the Harry Potter series. She attended her first year of college at a small private school called Wells College. She then transferred to Binghamton University. Mr. Conzola His favorite thing about teaching middle/high school is seeing all the students and staff every day. He looks forward to going to work because he works with great people and get to help different students each day. The funniest thing that happened while teaching his class is when they acted out a play in 7th grade with Mrs. Shaffer. He played the maid and dressed up n necklace, scarf, blush and the whole works. Everyone got a good laugh. His favorite book is Into the Wild or Friday Night Lights. He attended a few colleges, he started off at SUNY Oswego, and SUNY Broome then Elmira College. Mrs.Chavez She likes working with the MS and HS age group because this age is more independent in their thinking. They have great discussions and sometimes she learns a little from them. One day, she came to school with two different shoes on. She learned never get dressed in the dark! Her favorite book is The Hunger Game Series. She has two kids: a nine year old son and a five year old daughter. Unfortunately, they don t go to CV because they don t live in the district.

7 Mrs.Miller Her favorite thing about teaching middle school is (especially the 6th graders), seeing every one transfer up from elementary school. They become more independent and they settle in that routine of middle school life. The funniest thing that has happened during class was when a student asked her, Do you regret becoming a teacher? She laughed so hard and said, No way! I love being a teacher. Her favorite book is The Giver. She attended both SUNY Broome and SUNY Cortland. Mrs. Miller s oldest daughter attends school at Chenango Bridge Elementary. Mr.Case His favorite thing about teaching middle/high school is the students, they make teaching fun! The funniest thing that has happened in class when some of the 8th graders accidently launched their rockets onto the roof of the school. His favorite book is The Things They Carried.
