1 Jul 31 Aug 4, 2013 Media Contact: Debbie Egidio 900 Fairgrounds Drive, Vallejo DTS Egidio (707) ph (707) ph (707) fx (707) fx FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 19, 2013 BAY STAGE AT THE 2013 SOLANO COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE TALENT COMPETITIONS, NIGHTLY KARAOKE PARTY, POPULAR HYPNOTIST AND LIVE MUSIC EVERY DAY Solano County, CA The Solano County Fair s Bay Stage, presented by KUIC, is full of non stop entertainment all day, every day at this year s Fair, running from July 31 through August 4. Once again, the Fair will hold two entertaining competitions: the Talent Competition on Friday, August 2 and the Solano Stars! Vocal Competition on Saturday, August 3. competitions will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on the Bay Stage. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each competition and the entry fee includes Fair admission. The Talent Competition is open to musical duos, trios, bands, dancers and other entertainers, while the Solano Stars! Vocal Competition is open to individual vocalists only. All contestants must live in Solano County and will be judged on talent, stage presence and entertainment appeal. New this year, the Bay Stage will also be home to a nightly Karaoke Party from 8:00 9:30 p.m. with prizes, DJ play lists, and lots of family fun. Registration for the Talent and Solano Stars! Vocal competitions is due by July 26. Participants can also pre register for the Nightly Karaoke Party, but walk up singers are welcome. Vocal Competition, and the nightly Karaoke Party, here are just a few of the acts that will be entertaining fairgoers this year. Performing two shows every evening, The Steve Bayner Hypnotist Show is one of the most sought after, successful shows of its kind. Each year, Steve performs before millions of people. His show has been performed all over the United States as well as abroad. Steve s talents have been featured on television, radio and in newspapers and magazines. Additionally, he s been the star on his own cable television show and is currently working on the production 2013 Solano County Fair Bay Stage Entertainment Page 1

2 of his own reality television show, Steve Bayner s World of Hypnosis. Audience participation is key to each show s success with selected audience members becoming the stars of the show. Every show has its own personality and humor, reflecting the uniqueness of the individuals in the audience. Steve Bayner performs two one hour long shows every night of the Fair. See schedule for show times as they vary with each day. On opening day, Wednesday July 31, the Fair is happy to once again welcome one of the ensembles of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, The Commanders. The Commanders, a newly revived ensemble, carries on the American musical tradition of the great big bands, yet offers a lot more than just big band sounds. This energetic group of highly trained professional musicians, formed from 18 Airmen, delivers the full gamut of jazz music traditional jazz, cool, bop, swing, Broadway favorites, and patriotic music. A typical performance with The Commanders might include favorites from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie to the sounds of today's modern jazz groups delivered by the group's enchantingly talented vocalist. Their renditions of hot jazz feature rousing improvised solos from every instrument in the group. This is an ensemble capable of delivering a truly unique combination of entertainment. The Commanders offers an entertaining show you won't soon forget! The Commanders perform from 5:00 6:00 p.m. on July 31. On Thursday, August 1, the D.E. Heavy Weather Band will rock the Bay Stage with their high energy performance. Darrell Edwards founded the band late in 2010, exciting fans with their performances of Rhythm & Blues, Rock, Inspirational songs and Jazz. Edwards has performed live on stage with talented, influential artists such as saxophonist Kevin Frasier, saxophonist Hermon Wilson, Alvon Johnson, popular keyboardist Raymond Victor, and a variety of other artists. Keyboardist Johnny Ramos and vocalist Naomi Smith are talented, fun musicians that perform with Edwards to round out the band. Edwards has performed solo before large crowds for special events such as Pacific Gas & Electric Company's annual Diversity Celebration Concert 2013 Solano County Fair Bay Stage Entertainment Page 2

3 in the PG&E Auditorium, San Francisco. Edwards dazzled the 2,000 plus crowd at the Mad Hatter Christmas Concert in MLK Plaza, and in 2011 had an especially memorable performance for the Juneteenth Celebration and Concert at Martin Luther King Plaza in Vallejo. The D.E. Heavy Weather Band performs from 5:30 6:20 p.m. on August 1. The Voltones take the stage on Friday, August 2 with home town grooves sure to get everyone up on their feet. Guitarist/lead vocalist Dave Harris formed the Vallejo based Voltones over twenty years ago. Bassist and occasional vocalist, John Gajan anchors the rhythm section along with drummer extraordinaire Joel Anderson. Joel also brings serious vocal chops to this trio along with a rock solid back beat! The Voltones combine established rock cover favorites, reverb drenched west coast "surf" classics, and evocative, melodic originals into an upbeat driving style they refer to as "west coast retro rock" perfect for capturing that summer feeling. The Voltones perform from 3:15 4:15 p.m. on August 2. On Saturday August 3, Berkeley natives, Thirstbusters, take the stage to perform their original pop rock hits. Band members Chase Jackson, Forrest Mitchell and Zach Sorgen met in 7 th grade where they performed for the first time with a rendition of Purple Haze for a middle school event. They met their fourth band member, Ryan Thomas, at Berkeley High and immediately hit it off. One day after Jazz Ensemble they were jamming on some pop, and Chase yells Guys! We re making a band! and the rest is history. They recorded their first album as a one room live recording with no producer or professional guidance and shocked themselves with how well it turned out. After heading off to different colleges in New York, Los Angeles and Ohio, they reunited over winter break and produced a music video, So There, with Zach s sister as writer/director. A couple of weeks after making So There, they got an from Disney that the network wanted to air it for a while. Shortly after that, they got a call from their soon to be managers and put together the rest of their team, made a few more music videos, and had songs featured in a couple of movies. 4 dynamics/textures into their pop/rock songs. People compare them to Coldplay, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Maroon 5, and U2, but rather than picking just one direction to focus on for their new album, they decided to embrace the eclectic and just write songs that they love. Thirstbusters perform from 12:00 12:50 p.m. and again from 3:30 4:20 p.m. on August 3. Sunday, August 4 brings Jenny Lynn and her Real Gone Daddies to the Bay Stage for two energetic performances. A four piece Northern California based rockabilly band, they breathe new life into neat o classic covers and feature retro style original songs with a little bit of honky tonk. Their music is peachy keen, and you can bop and caterwaul your duck tail to it at the sock hop. In a word, this band is real gone! Crazy man, crazy! After a while, crocodile! Jenny Lynn and her Real Gone Daddies perform from 12:30 1:20 p.m. and again from 3:00 3:50 p.m. on August 4. Also, on Sunday August 4, the Bay Stage welcomes the Urban Bushmen Band for a soulful, crowd pleasing performance. The Urban Bushmen Band is a Northern California rhythm and blues group ready to entertain. The high energy, crowd pleasing act knows how to get people up on their feet and keep them moving. Founded by young blues/funk guitarist Kenny Wilson, the Urban Bushmen Band covers Classic Blues, R&B and Neo Soul. Whether its fan favorite grooves by other well known groups, or music of their own, the band pulsates with tight arrangements. The Urban Bushmen Band performs from 5:15 6:30 p.m. on August 4. The Solano County Fair runs from July 31 August 4, 2013 at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo. All entertainment, including concerts, is included FREE with Fair admission. Fair admission prices are $8 in advance and $10 on site for adults, $4 in advance and $6 on site for children ages 6 12 and seniors 60+. Children 5 and under are always FREE. Military personnel and dependents with an active duty card are also always FREE. Select activities, carnival rides and games have a separate cost.
