1 Joondalup Districts Cricket Club Sixth Edition Season 2013/2014 Great performances from our U14 s and U13 s Harrison Blake getting his hundred and a well deserved Player of The Round Sponsors

2 What makes a Great Club? As we go into the back half of the season and many teams are looking good for a finals berth and more players than ever before are playing representative cricket it is time to reflect at what makes a club great. Success is great but is not only measured in terms of number of flags you win, its about the culture in the club, the fact that you are prepared to play for each other, enjoy playing for the club, being a part of and being proud of the club you play for. In the long run how flags were won will be forgotten but the culture in a club should last forever. As members of this club, we are the ones that make a difference, how we play the game, what we put in for each other, how we treat each other and how we portray the club. It is not only those representative players that carry the clubs name but every 12th and 13th man that is a representative of Joondalup Districts Cricket Club so be great ambassadors in victory and in defeat. So to answer the question What makes a Great Club? You do The club is still looking for a Treasurer, if you are able to assist to fill this role please contact Max Goldenberg. We need good people with new and fresh ideas to lead this club so if you feel you can make a difference please put your hand up Thanks to all the coaches that have played their part in securing the first half of the WACA grant for both Juniors and Seniors. This money all goes towards developing the players we have and by the numbers that have been selected to play at the next level, it means that that we are starting to see the rewards of the private coaching plan that has been put in place by Michael Smith. Those same juniors are contributing to the seniors success and the future is looking good. 4 Players Chosen for EWP U16 Carnival The following 4 players have been selected to play in the EWP U16 Carnival which takes place from the 27th January through to the 30th January. Duncan Christie Matthew Christie Brayden Thompson Ewan Larmett We wish you all the best. Watch Out for the Trenches Work on the new lights is about to ramp up with trenches for wiring and the holes for the poles about to commence. We have been assured that this will not disrupt any games but watch your step. U19 World Cup Representative As mentioned before two of our rising stars made the 30 man U19 Squad and Jaron Morgan has been selected to go to Dubai to take part in the ICC World starting in February. Josh Inglis was unlucky not to be selected but has really found great form this season for 1st Grade and State. Well done to you both and we look at you both as role models for our up and coming juniors. Heather Graham Excels in State Female U18 Championships The State U18 Female Championships held in Ballarat saw WA come 5th having won 3 and lost 4 of their matches. Heather was the pick of the batsmen having scored 177 runs for the tournament (4th overall) and with a top score of 41 off 50 balls.\ She also did well wih the ball having taken 8 wickets with best figures of 3 for 13. Congratulation to Heather for also making the team of the Championship. Well done and well deserved. North West Win 15 s Emerging Warriors Carnival The seven club representatives in the North West Emerging Warriors squad were a part of a victorious campaign. Captained by Connor Smith the team performed well under coach Geoff Coultas with Axel Spearman being named Player of the Carnival. Wicket Ratings The Umpires gve each wicket a rating and our Iluka 1 came second last whilst Iluka faired better 8th out of 17. Top 1st oval was Lilac Hill whilst UWA Sports West was the best second oval.

3 Clint Hinchliffe Hits a Ton for WA U17. Despite a poor National Championship with WA only winning its first game, Skipper Clint Hinchliffe topped the batting for WA which was capped with a well worked century in the last game. Clint ended up 8th overall and also impressed with the ball. Our Cricket Clinic a Success Day 1. We had a good turn out from the district players and a great turn out with some really excited young players. The boys were broken into two groups and commenced warming up. There were five stations for the kids to rotate around. Three of those stations were based around having fun with cricket while the other two were introducing them into the more serious side of training and net practice. The kids were challenged by their coaches regularly and this really highlighted the young exciting up and coming talent amongst the group. We all had a bite to eat thanks to Crissy who was a great help leading up to the clinic and throughout the 3 days. We then got to watch young Garrick Morgan on the bowling machine smash the ball as far as he could. The kids were eager to point out Garrick s strengths and weaknesses and learnt some good lessons there. We ended a great day with two mini-matches involving players and coaches. Development player Jaron Morgan came down to answer some questions from the group and they were all excited to see him wearing his scorchers uniform! The young players had great attitudes towards the three days and fun was had by all. then onto some well organised fielding training and games. They were taught the correct techniques on aiming and throwing at the stumps. This was a great activity which involved a lot of yelling. Split into teams and the challenge was on! This is where the young guys really come alive and a healthy spirit of competition is developed. The boys got to work together on their fielding skills while the batting team were screaming how many runs they had. The coaches got to witness some potential stars in the making. Many young players showed great ability and enthusiasm for the game of cricket. We hope to see this talent play for Joondalup Districts one day. Day 3. The young guys were split into teams and challenged one another in a match scenario. It was great to see such positive attitudes amongst the kids. Overall we all had fun, we all learnt some new skills and the young guys were exposed to some really great experience amongst the coaches. Thanks to the volunteers and coaches that offered up their time to encourage the younger guys and thanks to all the young guys who we got to meet and interact with. We hope to see these young cricketers develop their skills and walk through the doors of Joondalup Districts and onward to play for Australia. Thanks to Keegan Wilson for writing up this article and for the great work he did. Lets Knock Drugs for a Six Cricket Australia has launched a campaign to make people aware of the risks of using illicit drugs. Click on the image above or HERE to view the e-brochure. Joondalup Districts Cricket Club fully supports Cricket Australia s campaign against drugs in sport and cannot and will not condone the use and abuse of drugs within our club. We do however recognise our obligation to support individuals with such dependencies and will continue to provide support to those who are seeking assistance. Day 2. We had a great leader on day two as Denver D Cruz came down to share his knowledge with us. The group was led through a thorough warm up and
