Smiling Shamrocks Tally Ling Birthdays Tim Halloran 14 th George Towle 24 th Ed Prichard 27 th Happy Birthday!! Rainbow Bridge Condolences to Laura Williams on the loss of Bailey this month. Bailey came to us into rescue about 8 years ago and placed with a home that didn t work out. Laura saw our post and fell in love with his picture. On the road from Baltimore, Bailey was finally on his way back to his forever home. Bailey by way of Laura, wrote our From the Rescue Side column off and on over the years. He truly left his paw print on many of our hearts. Laura sent his final farewell, which follows. May the Shamrocks fall softly~~~~~ Bailey, Bailey, Handsome Boy You know your Mommy s Pride and Joy You came to me from far away Two times back is what they say You were a handful for a time
4 They walked us through, I made you mine Bad old habits slowing down My smile on progress took my frown It took a village that s for sure And when you calmed my love did pour My anxious wonder Can I measure? Turned into to my finest treasure Strong love needed I must learn To make your change, your life to turn And when it did, It all so clear You by my side, forever here! You knew with Ruby, just step back She here first, was just a fact You found your love and years of play Until the day she went away She left so fast and we were sad So clear a new red must be had When Abbey came, you made it clear I am the boss, now you are here But as top dog your heart was so giving To teach this pup just how we were living She needed some help to learn to be here You shed your big armor, YOUR WORDS RANG SO CLEAR I ll relearn to wrestle and yes I will play But know little Red, please don t get in my way I ve been here the longest, my dues I have paid I write all the stories, I start the new page You don t handle steps, this makes no sense to me Just three little hops, it s as easy can be Mom can t get you down, so guess this is my task With my help and a bark steps were tackled at last Now let s get to the yard, you seem a bit shy When we play and have fun you will see the time fly If you shake on that step you just never will see This wonderful yard, made for you and for me There are birds and some cats that we can both chase Adventures abound, it s a wonderful place So I ll wait at the bottom you follow me there And we ll wrestle and sniff and we won t have a care Mom will be thrilled when you learn to play free I ll paw my own back that was all due to me! Now the rules in the house are a whole other matter You are never shy there, you are mad as a hatter You just act so crazy, My Mom has a frown The hugs come so easy when you just settle down Mom s order so simple, you need to learn more Her one major rule is All four on the Floor I know you are joyous when guests wander in But keeping it gentle is really a win Kisses and Hugs will surely be given When you tackle the guide in this house where were livin I m grateful my Bailey for more than you ll know For years of the love and support you did show
5 I thought it was me who was doing it all Turns out, lots I ve done have been marked with your paw It s so hard to word for you this memorial It s just not enough to word a tutorial So, your memory for me is to say it in ink From Mom just to you etch a permanent link Shannon s tattoo, a shamrock halo above Ruby Tiara, all covered in love Now that your gone, awesome love that I found My love to my boy, shamrock heart upside down. To everyone who was involved with the best boy ever, Thank you. Abbey and I are learning to adjust and are going to take a break and See how we make out this summer. We will stay in touch. Laura and Abbey (Missing Shannon, Ruby and Bailey) Events & Activities New Castle Memorial Weekend Cluster (May 23 May 27) Once again our members have a lot to be proud of! We had a super 5 days!! THANK YOU to; >Joan Fiser for really working her butt off by joining the New Castle Club and getting a jump on our needs. She also chaired the Sporting Fun Match and got it organized. She donated the items in the Goodie Bags each entry received and bought the ribbons. Joan also chaired the Dyson raffle. >Shirley Semich for working with JR s Barbeque. Our menu and Darrell and Pam were a big hit! Compliments on our hospitality continue to get back to us. They have been reserved for next year. Thank you to the members for their donations towards covering the costs in place of trying to bring food. This made our lives so much less stressful! >Mary Lamphier, Lorrie Nogrady, Tally Ling and Shirley Semich for the teamwork in pulling off a successful Craft fundraiser for rescue. And to the members who made and donated the beautiful craft items sold from the table. >Deb Lawrence for getting trophies together for the 5 days. >the members who donated baskets and / or items for the basket raffle. Deb organized the event. This was our most successful basket raffle so far!! >Joan Fiser for our beautiful flower baskets for that added touch to make our ring look nice. >To EVERYONE for help before, during and after! WE are so proud of our TEAMWORK!!! Until next year, as the preparations begin for 2015! Full results can be found on
6 Congratulations to the Members who received an Annual Award in Recognition of whatever they and their dog(s) may have accomplished. Also we recognized Joan Fiser for the rescues of 2013 that she took into her home. Thank you to Blue Dog Bakery and Agway Buter for their donations of treats and dog food samples to help our efforts. ISCA National Specialty The national Specialty will be held in Sandusky OH the week of June 10 th 14 th at the Sawmill Creek Resort. Our Basket is ready to go for the Host Club, the Irish Setter Club of Michigan. Members attending are Deb & Skip Lawrence, Coleen McGee, Mary & Jamie Lamphier, Denise Hall, Karren Harrison, George Towle and Lorrie Nogrady. We wish everyone good luck..mostly~~have fun!!! Website- from the Rescue side. Hello everyone, Joan Fiser here. My Dear friend Laura is taking a little break so I stepped in to write the column. I get asked so many times why do you do rescue? How can you do rescue? Many years ago I helped to start Rainbow Animal Refuge. They are still in operation today. I help out whenever I can. My heart is in rescue. My first dog I bought for fifty dollars from a back yard breeder, you could say. All I knew is that I wanted an Irish Setter. That was in So started my life with the Irish. The local shelters knew I would take in Irish. So over the years I took in and helped several setters, all the field type. I helped get dogs back to their owners and I worked with Golden Triangle Irish Setter Club with rescue. Who was to know I would be the President and now Vice President of the club, so many years later? Our club is very active with fund raisers to help the Irish and also local shelters. We have helped donate to local food banks for the family pets, and helped a K9 Police officer get a bite suit to train his service dog. We bought masks for the EMTs so they would have on board the rescue ambulances to help any size animal get lifesaving oxygen, if needed. Most of the members have had rescues in their lives. Finding good forever homes for these poor misplaced Irish is so rewarding. It helps to fill a gap in both the dogs lives and the new owner. Transporting dogs, fostering dogs, and adopting these Irish, I can't begin to tell you the feeling it gives me. I was fortunate to help with Bailey, the Star reporter from Baltimore, who Laura wrote about in her columns and got his rebirth in her loving home. Sadly this month, Laura called me and told me how bad Bailey was getting and she going to have to put him down. Tears flowed freely the same as when I knew he found his new home with her. It was in the cards and God works in very wonderful ways. I got to see Bailey over Easter weekend. It was the first time I had seen him in years in person. What a wonderful boy and what a wonderful person Laura is for taking on that task of giving a big boy and trying times with him but he turned out well. I, myself, will be taking on two old girls today. I will go and drive a few hundred miles to get them and back home before noon. They are 14 years and was told 12 but I found out the one is nine years old. Both are in need of teeth cleaning and the nine year old has a hip problem. So, I add another two to my family of 3 senior girls that I have now. I can afford the money part of it but my heart will really be spread thin. Knowing how these girls lived, they will settle in and just sleep I'm sure, like my other 3. I want to Thank all involved getting them to me. There were 4 dogs taken from this person, they are younger so if you're interested in helping them, please get in touch with me through our website GTISC.org. Click on rescue and I can help you find your forever dog. May the Shamrocks Fall softly for Bailey...
