You must have two people prepay in order to hold your spot in the league, and a maximum of 2/3 of the league can be prepaid. Post dated cheques ONLY! Have your fees paid before you start curling! The John Fairhall Memorial Golf tournament will be on May 12, 2012 at the Pinnacle golf course. Please call the office to register. 9 holes of golf, dinner at the club and a whole bunch of fun! $60 per person without a cart, and $70 per person with a cart. What a great way to keep the team together in the off season! Canada Day Weekend Spiel! Join us for a great weekend of fun and curling June 29 - July 2 for our Canada Day Spiel! The Kelowna Open Summer Spiel is a great way to celebrate Canada Day Weekend. Entry is $360 per team, and includes two dinners and two lunches. Six games guaranteed, all skill levels are welcome. Dance Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! A $200 deposit is required. But wait...there s more! There will also be a Junior spiel July 6-8, and a Senior Golf & Curl July 7-10! 4 Page 4 Around the Club Cod Gone Wild The band is celebrating the release of their new CD in May with a 5-stop Irish Pub Tour of the Okanagan. They ll be performing at the Kelowna Curling Club Friday, May 11. Tickets are $20 and are available at the curling club. There will be a limited dinner menu beginning at 6:00 PM. The show starts at 8:00 PM. Make your reservation now to ensure you get one of the best seats in the house. Contact the office at This is a 19 plus event. We welcome wheelchair curlers! Do you know someone who uses a wheelchair? Tell them our club welcomes wheelchair curlers. We're fully wheelchair accessible with a proud history of success in wheelchair curling. We hosted the first ever International Wheelchair Cashspiel, had two gold medalists at the first ever Paralympics curling event, and hosted the Canadian Wheelchair Nationals in This coming season, wheelchair curlers will be practicing and playing in preparation to challenge for a BC Provincial title. They are looking for more wheelchair users to attend their practices and join their team(s). The great thing about wheelchair curling is that whether you have curled before using a chair or are new to our sport, just about anyone with access to a wheelchair can play and age is no barrier. Provincial teams are mixed gender, so women are especially welcome. Please spread the word! Try Lawn Bowling The Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club (a non-profit --- like the curling club!) has kindly invited curlers to come try the sport of Lawn Bowls. They will explain the game, provide the necessary equipment and let you try lawn bowling at no cost to you. 6 About the Kelowna Curling Club Did you know that the Kelowna Curling Club is a non-profit society dedicated to providing curling at a reasonable cost? The society was formed in 1942, and has been in this building since All the staff at the KCC are employees of the society. Thus all the sales & profits of the bar, kitchen, and rentals at the Kelowna Curling Club go to keep the cost of curling down. Many times volunteers are required to run a function, or provide some general work around the club and this also goes to keeping costs in line and fees lower. The Kelowna Curling Club operates without subsidy from the City of Kelowna or the Province of BC. Some projects get funding, but day to day operations are funded by you the curler, or renters. What can you do to help? Little things like bringing your friends in for a beer or dinner before the hockey game. Bring them out to try curling or volunteer to help with painting or running the next event. Every little thing helps.
