1 Annual General President s Report Meeting Report 2013/2014 Tuesday, 30 th September 2014 President s Report As President of the Shepparton Rugby Union Club (SRUC) Inc. it has been an honor and great privilege to serve first and foremost those who have volunteered their time to help grow the sport of Rugby in Greater Shepparton, players that come out rain or shine to play the sport they love or even experience for the first time and have become part of the family, our game day volunteers and last but not least our dedicated supporters the Club and its players are indebted to you all for your support throughout the year on behalf of everyone THANK YOU! As most of you will know, I announced my resignation in August, yet like past board members, your role is passed on to another, but your heart, mind and body continues to support and do what it needs to keep a passion alive and growing and that my club mates is what I will continue to do. We have a lot to be proud of here in our small country town and club when it comes to what we have achieved in the last 12 months. would also like to acknowledge our jersey sponsors, who stood beside players they believed in, not only funding the club but the players registration fees Sevens Creek Pearls Allan & Amanda Smith; Mana Security Brian & team; Riverbank Caravan Parks Kaokao & Sarah Kautai; Jess s Hair Spa Jessica Tahuriorangi; Empire Signs, Hip Pocket Shepparton, Riordan Legal, Grouse Grout & Floors and Vin Truscott Pest Control. Successful in 3 out of 4 grant applications, we received: $10,000 Multicultural Victoria Commission for the Know Your Roots - Pacific Islanders Reconnect Program (SRUC Auspice) $5,000 Greater Shepparton City Council for the research and development of Junior Rugby $3,000 Vic Health for the purchase of safety equipment Pacific Islanders Reconnect program completed in May this year with the Flavors of Polynesia night, saw a great desire by the community of Greater Shepparton to hold the event annually. To name a few, this year SRUC secured four major sponsors who make it possible for the club to start the season with a good kick start. I would like to acknowledge those sponsors tonight for their support Platinum sponsors, Carpet Call David and Caroline Mohi; Emerald sponsor, Aussie Loans Tessa Vaitohi; Gold sponsor, Infinity Taxation & Accounting and Silver sponsor, Empire Signs. 2 A result of our Junior program findings, we were able to enter our first ever U16-U18 team in the Junior Sevens held in April. Lead my Coach Kaokao Kautai and Vice President Grace Moananu, Rapture Falefata was named captain, however was not able to play on the day, yet he stood strong and positive for his team. With a dedicated head Coach Warren Johnston and Acting Team Manager Cynthia Tuaopepe who joined coach late in the season, Management and Team fielded a 15 aside team with one forfeit all season and finishing in Second Division Grade A on the ladder in 05 th place. In reaching our successes there have been a lot of casualties along the way resignation of a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, several board members and numerous injured players who hung up their boots for the rest of the season. The success of the Shepparton Bulls over the last year outweighs all negatives. Shepparton Bulls Senior team achievements: Albury 10 asides 03rd place 2014 Geelong Sevens Runners Up Winners 2014 Macron Goldfield Sevens Plate Winners Moving from Third Division to Second Division Grade A 05 th place on ladder Health and Wellbeing Report At the start of the season, the number of new players grew and with it came new health and wellbeing concerns. More than 50% of our registered players were physically unfit and other issues. Through vigorous training a massive change was seen. Observation results: Fitness levels of many increased Waistline measurements decreased Decrease in alcohol consumption at home games The only club in the Goulburn Valley that does not sell Fried Food during home games SRUC introduced an inclusion policy late last year that allowed everyone to play the sport or be

3 involved, regardless of their physical or mental ability. I am proud to report that SRUC is active in their promise through naming and actively fighting for people like Rapture Falefata, a young man with a prosthetic leg. For one family and I quote Rugby has been the best thing that has ever happened for my son! Jake Gaffey s whole world has changed for the better since joining the Shepparton Bulls and his family couldn t be happier. Social Connection Report The community of Greater Shepparton has connected with Shepparton Rugby Union Club more than it ever has in the past. To date, SRUC has been invited and participated in numerous events to be part of minor and major festivals in the region namely: Financial Report The Club estimated an increase in revenue this year. In receiving an increase in revenue the commitment of the Club also grew including expenses. 2013/2014 Finance Overview: Total Estimated Revenue $30, Total Actual Revenue $28, Total Estimated Expenses $30, Total Actual Expenses $28, Profit/(Deficit) (-$ )* *$2000 added to the deficit as sponsorship not yet received Where to from here? In the Goulburn Valley there is still room for the Sport of Rugby! In order to be recognized, it requires dedication and a team that is willing to put the hard work in TOGETHER! Partnerships with Centre Care Shepparton Shepparton Arts Festival Emerge Festival Looking to the future, we can only go up from here! As promoted via website and social media page the following positions are now vacant: St George Street Festival OutInTheOpen Open Day GV Health Biannual Open Day Act, Belong and Commit Campaign Where we could we went, and when we had we gave. In years to come I hope that the list will grow and the social connection of our Rugby community continues to grow. 4 Without a Board, a Club cannot function and without a Club affiliation, no team can be registered to play in the Victorian Rugby Union (VRU). In saying that, WE NEED YOU TO VOTE! 5 NOMINATIONS Club President Nominations: can be. is one of the Shepparton Bulls newest recruits. With a long history in playing and coaching the sport, Kaokao headed our U16-U18 Junior team to Sevens this year. He is nominated by others for his vision of what and where the Club Alush Ibrahim has been a faithful supporter of the Shepparton Bulls since we re-established. He comes to the Club with years of experience volunteering his time and skills in Squash Clubs throughout GV for over 5 years. He is more than willing to help support the Club and be part of Rugby family in Shepparton. Club Vice President Nominations: comes to the Club with a great wealth of knowledge in the game of Rugby as well as skill. New to the area, Clyde looks forward to helping in the Club in any way he possible can in order to keep the game of Rugby active in Greater Shepparton. Club Secretary Nominations: Unity Smith is new to the area, but knows Rugby like the back of her hand. She is a full-time mother and partner to one of our Shepparton Bulls players. Nominated by a friend she is kind and trustworthy for the role. Club Assistant Secretary Nominations: Sarah Kautai is a woman of many talents. Hard working mother with administration skills as well as dedicated to helping in the Club since they came on board early Nominated by those who have seen her at work, she has been praised for her efforts and strength to see the Club and those in it thrive. Club Treasurer(s) Nominations: Faapito Stowers also new to Shepparton, would like the chance to be involved in the community. She is honest, has years of experience in customer service, retail area. Wife of a Shepparton Bulls 2014 recruit she is ready to help where needed in the Club s future. Ladette Tunumafono is known for her passionate voice in the game of Rugby. Former Vice President of the Club, she has been nominated by others for this role, with years of experience in administration as she is fit for the role.
