LEGO Building Contest The Rules Competitors will enter and display LEGO creations of their own, or their team. These can be a LEGO design (box design) or a design of their own creation (MOC). The creations must be made completely of LEGO components, but can be displayed in a display case, and can be glued if desired. LEGO electronics, LEGO robotics, LEGO hydraulics, LEGO Technic, LEGO Power Functions, and LEGO Architecture are all allowed. Winners will be determined based upon the number of entries, and may be divided into categories and age groups. Miscellaneous If power is needed for the display or the LEGO Creation (e.g., LEGO Power Functions), power will be available, but please consider bringing an extension cord.

SumoBots The Field The competition field is a 4 diameter circle, painted white, with a 3 black line painted along its circumference. This field is raised 1 inch off of its supporting table. The center of the field is marked. The Robot The robot must be no larger than 12 x 12 x 12 when the match begins, and must run on ONE single LEGO Mindstorms NXT or EV3 using standard NXT-G or EV3 LabView programming (as is supplied with the kits). Only unmodified, LEGO Brand parts can be used (no MegaBlox, no HiTechnic, etc.) with a maximum of THREE (3) MOTORS and FOUR (4) SENSORS. No electronic components other than the Mindstorms motors, Mindstorms Color Sensor, Mindstorms Light Sensor, Mindstorms Ultrasonic Sensor, Mindstorms Touch Sensor, and Mindstorms wires will be allowed. No weapons or components that detach from the robot are allowed. No systems that disable or deliberately damage the opponent s robot are permitted. No releasing of chemicals or fluids. Controlling the robot remotely is not allowed. Flipping, scooping, wedging, lifting and pushing are allowed. The Match The robots will be placed facing away from each other (or so that their first motion is away from each other), three (3) inches from the center of the field. The robots will start with a push of a button on command from the referee. At this time, the robot must delay motion for 5 seconds (and no more than 10 seconds), and then must move forward in a straight line for at least 3 inches away from the center of the field. The robots will attempt to force each other off of the field within the 3 minute competition period. The last robot continuing to function on the field will be declared the winner. Two robots will compete at a time, earning 2 points for a win or 1 point each for a tie. Each robot will compete against each other. The robots with the most total points for the equivalent number of rounds will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will be created.

Drag Racing The Field The competition field is a 25 L x 5 W drag-strip with a starting line, a finish line, and a line 10 from the starting line. The field is divided into two lanes, providing for two sets of robots to compete side-by-side for each round. The Robot The drag racing robot must be no larger than 12 x 12 x 12, and must run on ONE single LEGO Mindstorms NXT or EV3 using standard NXT-G or EV3 LabView programming (as is supplied with the kits). No contact with the opponent's robot or entry into their path. No spring or battery-powered parts other than the Mindstorm/EV3. Controlling the robot remotely is not allowed. The Match The robots will be placed with all parts of the robot behind the starting line. A countdown will be given, and the robot may not being moving in any way until after the referee says, GO! The robots will race down their side of the field, and the winning robot will be the first across the finish line. Two robots will compete at a time, earning 3 points for a win (first across the finish line), 1 point for the robot that first crosses the 10 line, and a penalty of 1 point for any robot that leaves its lane. The minimum score is 0. Any disruption to the path of a robot by another exiting its lane will result in the forfeiture of the fouling robot s points for that round, and an automatic win for the fouled robot. Except in this instance, a winning robot must cross the finish line in order to win the round. The robots with the most total points for the equivalent number of rounds will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will be created. Judges will determine the winners of the races.

FLL Hydro Dynamics Robot Challenge The Rules This competition will be based entirely on the FIRST LEGO League Hydro Dynamics Robotics Challenge as described at these official links: Only the Robot Challenge will be part of this competition, and the FLL scoring will be used. Highest score of three rounds will be used. Team with the highest score will be determined the winner. Note: This is not an official FIRST event, and the Challenge is presented as a scrimmage for educational and developmental purposes.

Angry Birds Robotics The Field The competition field is a 8 L x 4 W sheet of plywood with 2x4s (or 2x3s), on their edge, lining its perimeter, in the same design as the FIRST LEGO League competition table. A 45 x 18 Base is marked on one end of the field. A Launching Zone is denoted 6 in from the base, 45 x 22 in size. A Wall will be constructed across the center of the field, dividing the field into two separate 4 x4 zones the Angry Bird Zone and the Pig Zone. The wall will be approximately 6 in height at its lowest point, and will extend the entire 45 width of the table. The wall will have four randomly placed openings, large enough for the Angry Birds to fit through, at the base of the wall. A 1-inch wide black line, 3-inches long will mark the location of each opening, and will be located 6 inches in front of each hole in the wall. The Pig Zone consists of various targets placed on top of paper towel rolls, some lined up with the openings in the wall, others centered on the table. The Robot The robot must be no larger than 16 x 16 x 16 when the match begins, and must run on ONE single LEGO Mindstorms NXT or EV3 using standard NXT-G or EV3 LabView programming (as is supplied with the kits). The robot can throw, toss or roll the Angry Birds at the Pigs. The Challenge The robot will be placed in the 45 x 18 Base with all parts of the robot within the Base. The team will be given 30 seconds to prepare their robot for start, and the referee will then say, GO! The robot will then have to move out of the Base, into the Launching Zone, and launch a ONE STANDARD 2-INCH LEGO BALL (supplied) toward the Pig Zone. One robot will compete at a time, and after the first launch, the robot can be retrieved for a second and third launch. The field is not reset until after all three launches, and scoring is complete. Points are earned according to the Pigs that have been knocked down (off of their towers) onto the playing field. Different Pigs may have different points, depending on their status in the Pig Community. The robot may touch the wall, but may not attempt to knock the wall down, and may not be touching the wall when launching the Angry Birds. Any deliberate manipulation of the playing field or table by the team members, or any causing the Pigs to fall except by the action of the supplied LEGO ball or its affect upon the other items in the Pig Zone caused directly by a launch, will result in the forfeiture of the points associated with those Pigs and possibly the Round.

VEX Robotics Scrimmage The Field The competition field is a 12 x12 square field configured as illustrated below. The robots will compete within a walled perimeter. The Game Two teams one red and one blue will compete in two (2) minute driver-controlled matches. (There will be no autonomous period during this scrimmage.) The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing team by Stacking Cones on Goals, Mobile Goals in Goal Zones, having the Highest Stacks, and by Parking Robots in Parking Zones. The Details There are twenty-two (22) Cones that can be stacked on 4 Goals (2 per team) during a Match. Twenty (20) cones begin in designated locations on the field, and one (1) cone each is available for teams as a preload. Each Robot begins the match with a size smaller than (18 x18 x18 ) and aligned against their respective Starting Bar. Each team has three (3) Zones in which they can place their Goals for points. Each Cone Stacked on a Goal A Mobile Goal Scored in the 5 Point Zone A Mobile Goal Scored in the 10 Point Zone A Mobile Goal Scored in the 20 Point Zone Having the Highest Stack in a Zone A Robot that is Parked at the end of the Match 2 points 5 points 10 points 20 points 5 points 2 points

The Game Two teams one red and one blue will compete in two (2) minute driver-controlled matches. (There will be no autonomous period during this scrimmage.) The Details There will be a pile of randomly colored cubes, called Glyphs, at the center of the field to being the Match. One (1) Glyph each is available for teams as a preload. Each Robot begins the match with a size smaller than (18 x18 x18 ) and aligns with its colored starting tape. Driver-controlled period begins when referee signals. Each Glyph scored will be worth 2 points, while a completed row will be worth an additional 10 points. Each completed column will be worth 20 points. During the last 30 seconds of the Match (the End Game), the Relic can be scored in Zones 1, 2, or 3 for 10, 20 or 40 points, with a bonus of 15 points for an upright Relic. End with a balanced robot on its Balancing Stone for an additional 20 points.
