6 Initial Assessment Pass the Buck Children to make a circle holding hands (no more than 7), if possible have 2 or more groups competing against each other: Place a ball in a child s left hand They must pass the ball to their right hand Using their right hand they must pass the ball to the next person s left hand (working anticlockwise) This is repeated until the ball is back to the beginning when all the children sit down A person must only use the correct hand to send and receive i.e. they must not take the ball from the person s right hand with their right hand it must go o LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT etc. Repeat the game but start with the right hand and go clock-wise To make more difficult get them to pass the ball around their body before passing it to the next person Circle Hoop Children to make a circle holding hands (no more than 7), if possible have 2 or more groups competing against each other: Children to hold hands at all times Place a hoop between two children s hands (continue to hold hands afterwards) Children must pass the hoop around the circle without breaking hands Children to send hoop clockwise and anticlockwise Make more difficult by adding another hoop o Eyes closed o One person allowed to talk Cat Basket Relay Children to be in small teams one behind each other: One at a time, each child tries to send a coloured bean bag to the corresponding coloured basket Work as relay until all the beanbags have been used Allocate points for each colour To make more difficult space the coloured baskets and different distances 4 P a g e

7 Send, Send, Send (Australian pack) Teams to face each other each with a line down the middle, each group has a foam ball On a signal players sends (under/over arm/kicking etc) their foam ball over a line in the direction of the opposite team After a set period, balls are counted to see who has the least balls Balls Hoops Spread the team out evenly between two hoops set at a reasonable distance. Children must be able to send a small tennis ball to each other but not so close as they can pass it, and not too far apart so as to make it too difficult to receive: Place a set number of balls in the first hoop with one child This child must send one ball at a time from child to child to the last hoop Winning team is the team with the most balls in the hoop or gets all of them in before the other teams Relay Games Correct running technique Speed Gate (Australian Pack) Send a ball through a gate (cones) to a wall or to a person in your team Snakes Alive The first ball rolled becomes the head of the snake Players deliver one ball at a time, aiming to place each ball behind the previous ball The aim is to form the longest snake Target Relay Gates are set up over a course Players in relay teams roll (send) the ball through the gates back to next team 5 P a g e

10 Lesson 1 Lesson Content Differentiation Timings Warm Up Introduce Traffic lights o Red teacher introduce position 1/2 o Amber teacher to introduce position 3/4 o Green teacher to introduce position 5 Introduce starting Position 1 (legs and feet together, toes pointing forwards in the same direction) After practising Position 1, introduce Position 2 (feet shoulder width apart, toes pointing forwards in the same direction) After practising positions 1 & 2 a few times, Introduce Position 3/4 from position 2, left foot to slide one step backwards maintaining shoulder width from other foot and toes pointing forwards (3) and then lower body and role onto balls of feet (4). Pupils to travel around set area (walking/jumping/skipping), teacher to call out 1, 2, 3 and 4, children to stop and perform that position showing correct posture and position of feet, knees, shoulders, back and head. LA Check/correct position of feet/knees/back/shoulders/head for position 1/2/3/4 MA Demonstrate positions 1/2/3/4 under control without any corrections HA - Demonstrate positions 1/2/3/4/5 under control maintaining good body posture 5-7 minutes Pupils to be in teams of 3-5, they will need to be lined up 1 behind each other along a given line (team relay style) Flat markers are often helpful to show a starting point, mark 10 metres in front from the starting flat marker. In-between the starting marker and the 10 metre marker, position spots where feet should be when walking, skipping, jogging or running. Pupils are to start with jogging one at a time to the 10 metre flat marker, with their feet hitting the spots using correct mechanics for running and then turn and jog back to group. Pupils to progress to skipping/running at different speeds to 10 meter marker, turn and return to group using a different a different way of travelling. LA Travel in one direction under control with balance whilst making contact with the floor spots. MA Demonstrate balance and control whilst travelling at different speeds to collect objects. Main Session Plenary (When introducing new skills only add ONE skill at a time, ADD A SKILL PRACTISE ADD A SKILL PRACTISE) Assessment game: Treasure hunt From the 10 meter marker the pupils can, skip, jog, or run to the treasure at the end of the area, to collect a bib (the bibs/objects can be referred to as treasure with different points for each item collected to make the activity more relatable to the children). Stop, turn and run back with the bib/objects and place in a treasure chest and high five the next person, allowing for them to start their turn. All pupils to continue until all treasure is collected. Repeat so that each pupil gets a turn at starting first, emphasising feet position when starting. Progress to travel in other forms - skipping, jogging, running adding in challenges (pirates blocking the treasure so if tagged they must go back to their group with no object). Progress into a competition where some teams become pirates against a specific team i.e team 1 collect treasure, team two are pirates. Rotate teams after each game. Movement around the set area in a slow and calm environment. Pupils to travel around set area (walking/jumping/skipping),teacher to call out 1, 2,3, 4 and 5, children to stop and perform that position Finish with a slower Traffic lights game (emphasis on dynamic stretches when moving arms and legs etc.) o Red stop in a balanced position o Amber travel in a variety of ways o Green travel at different speeds changing direction HA - To be able to demonstrate travelling at different speeds and change direction showing control and balance when collecting an object or moving away from a pirate. 12 Lesson 2 Lesson Content Differentiation Timings Warm Up Main Session Introduce bib tag game o 5 taggers with bibs tied in a knot to throw bibs at class mates o If the taggers throw bibs and hit class mates below the waste, they now become the taggers collecting the bib. Re-cap from previous week Introduce movements to travel away from taggers. Taggers to demonstrate movements to tag children. Add in extra taggers. Organise hall to create 5 areas. Each area will concentrate on a specific way of moving. Flat markers are often helpful to show a starting point. Behind starting marker pupils are to be lined up 1 behind the other along a given line (team relay style) in groups of 4-6. Area one will concentrate on hopping. Place 5 spots in a straight line, one step apart. The pupils will need to hop on one foot from spot to spot. Turn, and then return by hopping on the other foot across the spots to return. Area two will concentrate on sprinting. Place cone 10 metres from starting marker. The pupils will begin by performing the starting position from the previous lesson (1, 2, 3 and 4). Sprint to the cone and back as quickly as possible. Area 3 will concentrate on stride pattern. From starting maker place 8 spots in a zig- zag line, one step apart, in a forward direction. The spots will represent where their feet should be when running therefore as the pupil travels across the spots, their feet should always be landing on a spot. When the pupil reaches the end, they walk back (rest period). Area 4 will concentrate on foot position. From starting marker place a ladder (cones if no ladder available) on the ground. When travelling through the ladder/cones the aim is for the feet not to touch any part of the ladder/cones. Teaching point- balls of feet only to touch the ground, heels should not touch the ground. Area 5 will concentrate on jumping. From starting marker place 4 mats on the ground, 2 steps apart. Pupil is to travel across mats using correct jumping technique- feet shoulder width apart, toes facing forward, knees bent, swinging arms to help shift body weight and landing on feet. Within activity introduce a Jungle theme: Area 1- hopping over long grass. Area 2- stampede. Area 3- Stepping stones across a river. Area 4- Stepping in slippery puddles. Area 5- Leaping over sleeping crocodiles. LA Check movement is under control. MA Children to be able to travel in different directions under control with balance. HA Children to be able to move using different techniques, jogging/skipping/running at different speed depending if they are an attacker of tagger. Re-cap from previous week. Re-visit starting positions (very briefly) Talk through variation of movements from previous lesson- Sprint, Jump and Hop. Organise area into 6 running lanes, 10- yards in length and 2 yards in width. Place starting marker at 1 end of each lane to represent the starting point. Pupils are put into 6 teams with 1 running lane each. Line pupils at the starting point. Pupils are to sprint, 1 at a time, to the end of their lane. Once they have reached the end they must walk around the outside of their lane to the back of their line. (Ensure pupils walk to the back of their line as this is their rest period.) When pupil returns to line they must high five the next in the line. Within this activity the key teaching points are the sprinting technique. o Only the balls of the feet/ toes come into contact with the ground. The heel should not touch the ground. o Knees are raised. o Arms are used in relation to legs. Opposite hand and foot is raised. o Head facing forward. Do not look at surroundings as body naturally slows down as a safety procedure. o Progression is to change distance that the children are sprinting. 16 Lesson 4 Lesson Content Differentiation Timings Warm Up Main Session Introduce Space Invaders game. o 5 pupils are to be put into bibs (space invaders). o Each space invader needs to be given another bib with a knot tied in the middle and a hoop. o The space invaders find a space to put their hoop in and then stand in it. o The remaining pupils are astronauts. o The astronauts are travelling around the inside of the area looking for spaces to move into. o The space invaders aim to throw their bibs at the astronauts from their hoop. Once the bib has been thrown, they collect and return to their hoop before throwing again. o If astronauts are hit by a bib they freeze and stand like a star. Other astronauts high five the frozen astronauts to free them. Re-cap from previous week. Technique of sprinting- feet position; use of arms and other important muscles; opposite hands and feet to be raised when sprinting and position of head. Assessment game: Dungeons and dragons. Set up and area of play which is 30 yards by 30 yards in size. The area of play is the dragon s dungeon. Organise 6 teams of 5 pupils. Each team is to be lined up at side of the dungeon facing inwards. From the line of pupils place 5 hoops moving inwards towards the middle of the dungeon. In the centre of the dungeon place a variety of bibs. These bibs will represent treasure. The aim for each pupil is to jump from hoop to hoop into the centre of the dungeon, collect a piece of treasure and return back to their team, unnoticed by the dragon. When a pupil returns to their line, they high five the next person to signal the beginning of their turn. Ensure only one pupil leaves their team at one time and they only collect one bib. The team that collect the most bibs are the winners. Progress after a practice round by introducing a dragon. The dragon aims to tag the pupils collecting the bibs. If the dragon tags a pupil, they return to their line without a bib. Within this activity it is important the instructor can explain the key action points of the jumping technique. o Feet are in a balanced position- Shoulder width apart and toes facing forward. o Bend knees to ensure that the most amount of power is achieved fr4om the legs. o Include the use of arms to swing forward, shifting body weight, again ensuring that optimum amounts of power is achieved. o Head facing forwards. o Land by bending knees to prevent injury and using arms to balance. o Ensure the pupil is balanced before jumping again. 24 Lesson 8 Lesson Content Differentiation Timings Warm Up Set- up a large playing area (approx. 30x30) Within area place 30 spots in spaces within the area. Each student is given 1 bean and then instructed to find a spot inside the area. The aim of the session is for the students to send their bean bag into a space using the correct, under arm, sending technique. Once the bean bag has landed in a space the student must collect it, find a new spot and then repeat throwing action. LA Able to send a bean bag with variable amounts of accuracy with a fixed target with on hand. MA Able to send a bean bag with reasonable amounts of accuracy, using correct technique aiming at both a fixed and moving target 5-7 minutes Main Session Plenary Un apposed practice. Instruct all students to find a partner. The pair will need one bean bag to share and a spot each. Instruct the students to place their spots in space 3 steps apart. Students will then face their partner and begin sending and receiving their bean bag to one another. Within this exercise concentrate on the responsibilities of the sender and receiver. o Senders responsibility- To make it as easy as possible for their partner to receive the bean bag by maintaining good weight of pass and aiming for their partners chest. o Receivers responsibility- To make sure they are in a set ready position- On the toes/balls of feet, knees bent and hands raised in a ready position. When introducing new skills only add ONE skill at a time, ADD A SKILL PRACTISE ADD A SKILL PRACTISE Assessment Game- Apposed practiced. Instruct students to get themselves into groups of 4. Each group has a bean bag to share and 1 spot per student. The spots are to be made into a triangle with 1 spot in the middle. The activity is a keep ball session concentrating on the decision making of the students. There are to be 3 students on the outside spots and 1 student on the middle spot. The aim is for the students on the outside spots to send the bean bag to one another without the student in the middle catching it. If the outside students can send and receive the bean bag 3 times without dropping it and the middle student catching it then they will receive a point. If the student in the middle can catch it he/ she will receive a point. Rotate the middle student are 2 minutes and reset the points. Demonstrate situations where correct decisions were made and children to peer evaluate. Demonstrate situations from opposed practice where correct decisions were made and success was achieved and children to self/peer evaluate. 26 Lesson 9 Lesson Content Differentiation Timings Warm Up Main Session Separate the class into 6/ 7 teams depending on number of students. Within playing area set out a starting marker for each team to sit behind. 5 yards from the starting marker place another marker this will represent the throwing marker. 5 yards from the throwing marker place a hoop. Inside the hoop place 2 bean bags per student. Each student is to travel from their teams starting marker to the hoop, collect 1 bean bag and then turn and run to their teams throwing marker. From the throwing marker the student must send the bean bag using and under arm throw to the child next in line. This will signal their turn to go. Introduce Hot Potato game o Keep the starting marker and hoop in the same position as from the warm up game. o Line the team up between the starting marker and the hoop. The bean bags will start on the starting marker. o The aim of this activity is for the bean bags to be sent down the line of children using the under arm throw and catch technique. o As the bean bag reaches the student closest to the hoop, he or she must send the bean bag into the hoop using the same under arm technique. o Continue game until all bean bags are in the hoop. o If at any point a bean bag is dropped it must be left and the team must start again with a new bean bag. If the final student misses the hoop the bean bag must be left. o The team which has the most bean bags in the hoop at the end of the game will win. Assessment Game- Apposed practiced. LA Able to send and receive with variable amounts of accuracy with a fixed target. MA Able to send and receive with reasonable amounts of accuracy, using correct technique with a fixed target. HA Able to send and receive with good levels of accuracy and good technique with both fixed and moving targets with both hands. 5-7 minutes 35 minutes Keep the same set up as Hot Potato. This time the students do not need to stay in a line, they can now spread out into a space in their teams area. Add a student to defend the hoop by intercepting the bean bag. If the team of students can get a bean bag into the hoop without the opposing player intercepting it, they score. As soon as the team score or the bean bag is intercepted, the game starts again with a new bean bag. Demonstrate situations where correct decisions were made and children to peer evaluate. Demonstrate situations from opposed practice where correct decisions were made and success was achieved and children to self/peer evaluate. Check understanding of sending and receiving for LA/MA/HA. 5 minutes Plenary 24 P a g e

28 Lesson 10 Lesson Content Timings Warm Up Introduce the Bean game. o Students are travelling around the area, looking for spaces and then moving into them. o When the instructor shouts a type of bean the students will need to demonstrate a body shape or action linking to that instruction. o The instructions are as follows: Baked bean- Small and round. Broad bean- Star shape. String bean- tall and thin. Kidney beanarched shape, leaning forwards or backwards. Jelly bean- wobble body like jelly. LA To be able to be balanced whilst sprinting. MA Demonstrating good travelling mechanics, whilst maintaining balance during sprinting. 5-7 minutes Re-cap from previous week. Re-cap responsibilities of Sender and Receiver. Ensure that all students understand the importance of helping others which are in possession by moving into space as a passing option (support). HA To be able to sprint using the correct mechanics and maintain good balance and posture when sprinting. Main Session Introduce Bowling activity. The aim of this session is to develop the range of sending techniques, this activity will develop rolling. Split area into 6 lanes. At the end of each lane place 3 cones in a triangular shape and balance a football on each cone these will represent the pins. At the opposite end of the lane place a starting marker. Separate class into 6 groups and sit them in a straight line behind a starting marker with a ball. Each student, one at a time, sends their ball down the lane towards the pins. A point is awarded for each pin they knock down. Once the ball has struck the pins the student must reset them and return to their team, giving the ball to the next student. Key teaching points regarding rolling: o Roll the ball using one hand (strongest hand). The movement of the arm is similar to an under arm throw however the ball travels past the lower leg rather than the upper leg. o As the student prepares to release the ball, the body must be lowered in order for the movement to be smooth. This is done by bending the knees to make a lowering the bottom. o As the ball is released, the foot on the opposite side of the body to the throwing arm must step forward in order to produce power. o Once the ball has been released the throwing hand should remain forward pointing at the target. LA Able to send with variable amounts of accuracy with a fixed target using developing rolling technique. MA Able to send with reasonable amounts of accuracy, using correct rolling technique with a fixed target. HA Able to send with good levels of accuracy and good technique with both fixed and moving targets using both hands. 35 minutes When introducing new skills only add ONE skill at a time, ADD A SKILL PRACTISE ADD A SKILL PRACTISE Assessment Game- Jail Break Take away 2 of the pins so that there is only 1 remaining in each lane and mark a small area behind using cones to represent a jail. Basic game play is the same however this time if the student misses the remaining pin they are sent to jail and must stay there until another member of their group strike the pin. The student who strikes the pin chooses who they wish to break out of jail. If the whole team are sent to jail then they are all released and the game restarts. Plenary Demonstrate situations from opposed practice where correct decisions were made and success was achieved and children to self/peer evaluate on the different sending techniques. Check understanding of sending for LA/MA/HA over different distances. 5 minutes 26 P a g e
