2 WELCOME MESSAGE Welcome to the NSW Schools Football Championships. This competition has been played since 1992 to determine the outstanding school in NSW. Special thanks and appreciation must be conveyed to the Directors of Football NSW in particular George Jackson, the CEO of Football NSW and Michael Quarmby, who along with Ron Pratt (CHS Football Convener) were instrumental in the development of this competition. The respective NSW school sectors: NSW Combined High Schools, NSW Combined Catholic Colleges and NSW Combined Independent Schools have competitions in place to determine the winners of their respective associations. A special welcome is to be extended to the parents, players, coaches and supporters. Today s matches see the winners of the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges, NSW Combined Independent Schools and NSW Combined High Schools competitions compete to be named the Best School Team in NSW. Congratulations to these schools who have played up to nine rounds of elimination knockout football to reach this stage. A large number of people from each of the education sectors have worked tirelessly to make this event possible. In particular, I would like to acknowledge Aaron Poll from St John Bosco College Engadine. I would also like to acknowledge the assistance from Justin Oval and the NSW Referees Association for providing referees for this event. I would also like to acknowledge the work of all the coaching staff of each school and appreciate the work and support they provide each of their teams. 3 NEW SOUTH WALES SCHOOLS FOOTBALL CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP RULES All games will be played in accordance with FIFA International laws. Duration of Games 1. The duration of the matches will be 30 minutes each way with 5 minutes half time allocation. If the game is drawn at full time, 10 minutes each way extra time is to be played with a 2 minute break between halves. The team to score first in that extra time will be declared the winner (Golden Goal). If the game is still drawn after extra time, then the FIFA penalty kick system will operate 5 alternate penalties with different players, etc. then sudden death. 2. Time off for injuries and stoppages will be allowed with the referee being the sole judge of the amount time to be added for this cause. Draw 3. The structure of the draw each year will be on a rotation basis Results 4. The competition will be conducted on a Round Robin: the team with the most competition points will be declared the winner, if points are equal, goal difference, if still drawn most goals scored, if still drawn, penalties. Substitutes 5. A team may utilise up to 5 substitutes, including a goal keeper during the match. 6. Unlimited interchange is permissible throughout the game, but the referee and assistant referee must be notified of any substitutions. Players sent-off may not be replaced. Playing Equipment 7. The goalkeeper must wear a uniform that contrasts with his/her own team s uniform, with the opposition s basis uniform and the referee. 8. Player s equipment must conform to the laws of the game, in line with FIFA laws. The referee is the sole judge of the suitability of a player s equipment. 9. All players uniforms shall be numbered on the back of their shirts including all substitutes. No two players in the same team are permitted to wear the same number. Players not in correct uniform will not be allowed to participate in the game. 10. All teams are to supply an alternate strip. In the event of a clash of colours, a toss of the coin by the tournament director or their nominee will decide which team is to change. Injuries 11. All injured players should be treated off the field unless incapable of moving off the playing field in which case the game will be stopped until such time as the player has been taken from the field. The amount of time added for injury is at the discretion of the referee. Judiciary 12. In the event of a player being sent from the field, the player will be suspended automatically for one match and any further action will be at the discretion of the tournament director.
