6 Christmas Party 2006 We I am sure a who made it to this day wi agree it was a good day. Though hot there was respite under the marquees and if you waked through the garden trais you woud have found a ovey coo tranqui spot to hide from the heat. Once again the Passey s opened their ovey home to the cub for the Christmas party and a woud have to agree it is a great setting for a party. There was a very good turn out and ots of ovey food to be eaten. The barbeque was running hot and there was a sorts saads and other food to eat. You woud have been hard pressed not to find something you iked amongst a that food. There was so much ovey food that quite a few peope thought they didn't have enough room for sweets that was unti they saw them! There was such a smorgasbord of deights and the fish shaped jeies were a great success with the chidren as we as the aduts. Santa came and surprised the chidren and gave out some we received presents. He certainy is a busy man and must have been very hot in a his Santa gear. I then came out and surprised the rest of the gathering with a sma bey-dancing demonstration unfortunatey my cd payer kept jumping so I apoogise to a for not being abe to do as good a job as I woud have iked maybe another time.. There had been a ot of interest in the fish that were up for auction. I am sure there was some happy buyers and seers at the end of the day. The cub woud ike to thank the Passey s for etting us use their house once again, to Josie for doing so much of the organizing and a who heped make this day a great success. It was ovey to see so many members and their famiies at the Christmas function.

8 Creating the Varieties of Koi It has aways heped me to remember the varieties of koi by breaking them down to the simpest variety first then adding coors, markings and scae-types. The koi becomes a new variety with every edition. Start With a Singe Coored Reguar- Scaed Koi Some of the most beautifu koi in the word are one soid coor. Referred to as Ogons, these magnificent koi are most frequenty found in satiny-white (Patinum Ogon), orange (Orengi), red (Hi Ogon) and yeow (Ki Ogon). Steps to Creating a Showa Begin with a soid back koi, a Karasugoi (crow koi). Add white marbeing. The koi is now a Shiro Utsuri (white refection). The white of the Shiro Utsuri shoud be snow white and the sumi (back) as back as India ink. Add red a over the body and wha-ah! You have a Showa (tricoored) - a back koi with red and white markings. A sign of a good Showa is a distinct ightning mark across the face. Steps to Creating a Sanke Begin with a soid white koi a Patinum Ogon. Add back spots. The koi is now a Shiro Bekko (white tortoise-she). The perfect Shiro Bekko has no sumi (back) on his head and his head is soid white with the east amount of fesh tone as possibe. Add red in spots a over the Shiro Bekko and you end up with a Sanke (tri-coored) - a white koi with red and back spots. A Sanke can have no back on his face. Steps to Creating a Kohaku Start with a Patinum Ogon. Add red a over the body no back this time at a. We now have a Kohaku (red and white). No koi coection shoud be without one. Its red shoud appear as if it were painted on ike nai poish with no burred borders against the white. Kohakus are further cassified by the number of steps (red spots) on the koi. If the Kohaku has a singe, continuous, jagged pattern that ooks simiar to ightning that extends from the face to the tai it is cassified as an Inazuma Kohaku. A Nidan Kohaku has 2 steps.
