Ben Robinson UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA TECH With five teams ranked in the top 40 awaiting the Bulldogs, Louisiana Tech is expecting a tough challenge when it tees off at the All-American Intercollegiate Friday morning in Houston. No. 27 South Carolina leads a 16-team field that has five teams in the top 40 and seven in the top 65 in what will be the start of back-to-back tournaments featuring some of the top golf programs in the nation. Houston (ranked 38th) and Rice co-host the 54-hole, three-day tournament at the par-72, 6,982-yard tournament course that begins Friday with tee times starting at 9 a.m. at the Golf Club of Houston. Another 18-hole day will tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday with the final 18 holes to be played starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The Bulldogs are sending the five-man line-up of Victor Lange, Charles Neel White, Chuck Spears, Jake Pritchard and Ben Robinson to the tournament. Tech is led by Lange, a senior from South Africa that entered the national individual rankings this week after winning the individual title at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in a playoff. That marked Lange s second career tournament of his career. Meanwhile Spears also recorded a top performance at the UTSA event as he finished fourth out of 84 total individuals. Louisiana Tech will face three Conference USA teams in Houston Charlotte, Rice and UTSA with the Bulldogs having posted a 3-1 record against those teams this season with a 7-5 record against the field over the course of the season. While the 27th-ranked Gamecocks are the top team in the field, four others are ranked in the 30s including No. 30 Arkansas, No. 32 SMU, No. 34 Baylor and the co-host Cougars while Charlotte, ranked 63rd, is the top Conference USA team in the field. Tech recently jumped 28 spots to No. 129 in the national rankings after finishing third in its last event. WE ARE... 2 VICTOR LANGE NAMED INITIAL CONFERENCE USA GOLFER OF THE WEEK IN Victor Lange was recognized as the Conference USA Golfer of the Week on Sept. 16 after a strong start to his senior season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Lange opened the season in familiar fashion, finishing 8-under 66 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss at the Hattiesburg Country Club (par 71/6,902 yards). The senior fired an opening round 66 (-5), followed by rounds of 68 and 71 to finish in a tie for sixth. Lange did his best work on the par 5s, placing second in the field scoring (4.22/-7). He buried an eagle and 11 birdies to go along with 37 pars. Lange was the highest C-USA finisher in the event as Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Rice, Southern Miss and UTSA all competed. LANGE NAMED C-USA GOLFER OF THE WEEK AFTER PLAYOFF WIN Fresh off his individual tournament title at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational where he beat six golfers ranked in the top 100 nationally, Louisiana Tech senior Victor Lange was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week on Feb. 10. Lange bested six individuals ranked in the top 100 en route to individual medalist honors ( =212) at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational at the Oak Hills Country Club (par 71; 6,765 yards). The senior carded a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to jump eight spots and force a playoff with Texas State s David Faraudo, edging Faraudo on the first playoff hole to claim the win. The tournament crown, Lange s second of his career, marked the first time since 2010 that a golfer not from a Big 12 Conference school has won the individual title at the Oak Hills Invitational. LANGE NETS SECOND CAREER TOURNAMENT WIN WITH PLAYOFF VICTORY Last season Louisiana Tech golfer Victor Lange rallied to force a playoff in challenging for an individual title, but fell short in that playoff. This year, the senior finished the job. Victor Lange carded a 3-under-par 68 to force a playoff and claimed the individual title on the first playoff hole to edge Texas State s David Faraudo for the medal at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio on Feb. 9. The win marked just the second individual title of his career and the first for a Bulldog golfer since the season when Travis Wilmore won the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. CAN LANGE GET THE THREE-PEAT? In 2014, Victor Lange became the first Bulldog to receive a bid to the NCAA Regionals in school history. Last year, he repeated that accomplishment as he registered an NCAA Regional bid in back-to-back years as he was selected as the No. 3 seed among the individuals at the Lubbock Regional. Vanderbilt Legends Club LANGE NAMED CONFERENCE USA GOLFER OF THE YEAR, RECEIVES ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM HONORS Victor Lange was honored on last season as he was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Year while also receiving First Team All-Conference honors. For Lange, it is just another way to put his name in the Louisiana Tech record books as he becomes the first Bulldog golfer to receive Golfer of the Year honors. He also becomes the first golfer in school history to be receive all-conference honors three times. VICTOR LANGE TIES STATE COLLE- GIATE, LOUISIANA TECH RECORD Last season Lange tied a Louisiana Tech and Louisiana collegiate record for a low 18-hole round by firing a 62 in the third round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant. That matched the 62 carded by Louisiana Tech s Roy Pace in 1962 at the Louisiana Tech Invitational in Ruston. For a complete list of Victor Lange s impact on the record book, please see page 4. SICKNESS CAN T STOP LANGE Beware the injured sick golfer. That old adage should be heeded especially when talking about Louisiana Tech junior Victor Lange and something he has proven multiple times. When Louisiana Tech headed out west for the Lamkin San Diego Classic on March 9-10, Lange caught food poisoning before the opening round but played through it to finish third, beating out six golfers ranked in the top 100. That was similar to the 2014 NCAA Regionals in San Antonio, Texas where Lange played the tournament despite suffering from shingles, strep throat (not contagious) and scarlet fever. Bulldog senior Victor Lange, who entered the final round in a tie for first, dropped five spots to finish sixth after carding an even-par 71 to finish the tournament at 8-under-par ( =205). He continued to excel on the par 5 holes as he finished the tournament averaging 4.22 strokes on the par-5 holes with an overall score of 7-under-par on those holes over the course of the three rounds. Fellow senior Ben Robinson turned in the best round for Louisiana Tech Tuesday with a 2-under-par 69 moving him up seven spots to finish tied for 29th overall with a 3-over-par tournament score of 216 ( ). Freshman Hunter Glenn finished the tournament tied for 19th at 1-over-par ( =214) with a 1-over-par final round Tuesday while Chuck Spears finished tied for 25th at 2-over-par ( =215). John Lewis Sams rounded out the top five for LA Tech as he finished tied for 54th at 9-over-par ( =222) as he carded a 1-over-par 72 on Tuesday. McNeese State claimed the team title as the Cowboys finished the tournament at 23-under-par ( =829) while UL-Lafayette placed second at 8-under-par ( =845), finishing one shot ahead of Louisiana Tech. McNeese State s Robert MacIntyre won the individual title at 14-under-par ( =199) while Sam Houston State s Andrew Ertel was the runner-up at 11-under-par ( =202). LA Tech Golf Finishes 13th at William H. Tucker Invitational ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Louisiana Tech mimicked its 19-over-par opening round on Saturday as the Bulldogs wrapped up the William H. Tucker Invitational in 13th place at 43-over-par 907, just four strokes ahead of Arizona. Senior Victor Lange led the team overall at 4-overpar ( =220) as he struggled Saturday, carding 4-over-par in the final round. That dropped him to tie for 24th individually. Freshman Hunter Glenn led the Bulldogs Saturday with a 1-under-par 71 in the final round, pushing him up to a tie for 65th overall in the tournament. Glenn carded a 13-over-par score for the three rounds with a 229 score overall ( =229). Host New Mexico won the tournament with a team score of 24-over-par 840, 19 strokes ahead of second place Texas Tech (5-under-par 859). UNLV and Colorado State tied for third at 4-over-par. Bulldogs Drop to 10th at David Toms Intercollegiate BATON ROUGE, LA. - Freshman Hunter Glenn carded a 2-under-par 70 Sunday but the rest of the Bulldogs struggled as Louisiana Tech dropped to 10th in the final round of the David Toms Intercollegiate at The University Club in Baton Rouge. Glenn shined Sunday to move up 14 spots as he finished tied for 16th overall with an 8-over-par ( =224) tournament score. That marks the highest finish for the young golfer in three tournaments competed in this year. Jake Pritchard, competing as an individual, carded a 2-over-par 74 Sunday as he finished tied for 24th overall to finish the weekend at 11-over-par ( =227). The normally even-keel Victor Lange struggled on the front nine with a 9-over-par score at the turn and only registered one birdie on the day as he dropped to 15-over-par ( =231) for the tournament, dropping 29 spots and finishing tied for 39th overall. Ben Robinson, who led LA Tech in Saturday s afternoon round, also struggled Sunday as he carded an 8-over-par 80 for the final round. The senior dropped 19 spots to finish tied for 39th alongside Lange. Overall, Louisiana Tech finished 14th at 32-over-par ( =896) in the three-round tournament finishing five strokes behind Conference USA foe Rice (+27) and three strokes ahead of South Dakota State (+35). North Texas won the tiebreaker over Michigan State for the team title with a 16-under-par 848 tournament score while North Carolina State (-12) finished third. The Mean Green s Thomas Rosemueller won the individual title at 12-under-par while Jacksonville s Franck Medlae and Memphis Lars Van Meijel tied for second individually at 10-under-par. Robinson s even-par round Tuesday marked the best round of the tournament for the senior and the best round of the day for the Bulldogs. He finished the tournament at 7-over-par ( =223) overall. This year, the senior finished the job. Victor Lange carded a 3-under-par 68 to force a playoff and claimed the individual title on the first playoff hole to edge Texas State s David Faraudo for the medal at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio Tuesday. The win marked just the second individual title of his career and the first for a Bulldog golfer since the season when Travis Wilmore won the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. With Lange winning and Chuck Spears finishing fourth, the two seniors helped Louisiana Tech to an impressive third place finish at the tournament with a 23-over-par 875 ( ), behind only No. 44 Baylor and No. 11 Oklahoma. Conference USA foe North Texas finished fourth at 33-over-par while Mc- Neese State was fifth at 34-over-par and host UTSA finished sixth at 35-over-par. Lange had to move up eight spots to secure the top place as he entered the final round in a tie for ninth place at 2-over-par. Sitting at 1-under-par, Lange carded a pair of birdies over the final four holes to move up into a tie for first with Faraudo, who bogeyed hole 18. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Lange would then edge Faraudo in a sudden death/winner take all on the first playoff hole, which happened to be hole 18. Meanwhile Spears finished a career-best fourth overall at 2-over-par 215 ( ). The senior s previous best finish was 13th at the Argent Financial Classic last season. In his first tournament as a Bulldog, Charles Neel White tied for 46th overall, finishing 14-over-par ( =227) for the three-round tournament while Hunter Glenn tied for 55th at 17-over-par ( =230).
