In Georgia the trees are full of colour and the azalea flowers are in full bloom. In Ireland, we have had a prolonged winter.

Work to be carried out on the course has been held back to allow for rising temperatures and consistent growth.

3 HOLL Hollow Coring It s that time of year again. The Masters at Augusta is around the corner which means that the season is fast approaching. In Georgia the trees are full of colour and the azalea flowers are in full bloom. In Ireland, we have had a prolonged winter. Heavy snowfall and cold temperatures have become normal this spring. Work to be carried out on the course has been held back to allow for rising temperatures and consistent growth. Over the course of two days the greenkeeping staff have hollow cored and sanded all greens in preparation for a busy golfing season. Captains Drive In C Captain Michael Donegan and Lady Captain Patricia Lambe cycled their way to the 1st tee. They were greeted by a huge crowd of members at the clubhouse.

4 Captains Drive In C Captain Michael Donegan and Lady Captain Patricia Lambe cycled their way to the 1st tee. They were greeted by a huge crowd of members at the clubhouse. Both captains handled the pressure of hitting a drive from the 1st tee with so many people cheering them on. This was followed by a team scramble. Conor Guilfoyle, Martin Lynch, Ger Jackson and Bette Foran had a very low score of 51.8 to finish in first place and well in front of the other teams. David Bollard, Brendan Daly, Richie Toal, and Dierdre O'Connor came second. Conor Healy, Ray McLoughlin, Jack Doyle and Tom Scott finished third. There were 6 teams of three on the day who also competed. The winning team of three were, Tony Buckley, Joe Daly and Shirley Donegan. It s great to see the golfing season begin here at New Forest. 7 Mullingar Electrical Wholesale Club Match Play The Club Match Play entry deadline day is Sunday 1st April, to enter you must pay your entry fee prior to entering your name on the competition computer. Rules & Conditions Players on top of the draw must arrange match The match MUST BE PLAYED before the completion date for the round, as indicated on the draw. In the circumstances where a match is not completed on the same day as it starts per consensus of all competitors, the following will apply, on the basis that the set deadline must be met. The game will resume from the point at which play previously ceased. Handicaps will remain the same as in the initial match. Should it be decided by consensus to replay the match starting from the 1st hole, the match will be replayed under current handicaps on that day. Any change to handicap must be declared prior to commencement. 9 9 Hole HOLL 9 Hole Qualifying Competition 9 Hole Qualifying Competitions were introduced by CONGU to enable players who do not have time or who are unable to complete 18 holes, maintain a handicap which reflects their current playing ability. New Forest Golf Club will be running a 9-hole Semi- Open Stableford Competition on our front nine off the white tees every Wednesday from the 11 th of April. The stableford score for 9 holes is recorded and a neutral 18 points for the 9 holes not played is added. The hole index will change to reflect the 9 Hole Competition. New Forest Men s Branch would encourage our members to get involved in 9-hole golf as a quick and enjoyable way to play golf either socially or competitively. The cost of entry is 5.00 If you wish to bring a guest to play in the competition their entry will be 10.00

HOLL Inter Club at New Forest All Ireland Fourball Congratulations to the New Forest All Ireland Four Ball team who played away to Moate Golf Club. The team won by 3.5 to 1.

The next round will be played away again, against the winner of Mullingar and Castlebarna. This round is to be played before the 22 nd of April.

The team won by 3.5 to 1.5 Congratulations to captain Matt Kenny and all the players. Special mention to Tony Mc Phillips and Brendan Daly making their first appearance for the club. Irish Mixed Foursomes The New Forest Mixed foursomes team came up against strong opposition in Tullamore Golf club knocked the team out of the competition. The eventual all Ireland champions. Members of that Tullamore team have said that New Forest gave them a great battle in that game last year. If the mixed team is to progress into the latter stages once again then they will have to first get by Glasson Golf Club and then Longford Golf Club in the second round. The second round is to be played before the end of April. With some good golf and a small bit of luck, the Mixed team will still be competing in May. Best of luck to John McCormack, Rita O Shea and their team. Central Towns Barton Cup The Barton Cup is one of the most prestigious pennants to play for. Sponsored by FBD, the competition entries are only Leinster based. Each team consists of 10 members. 5 pairs playing foursomes off scratch. The combined handicap of any pair shall not be lower than 14. New Forest will compete at home to Tullamore Golf Club in the first round. The date has been fixed for Saturday the 14 th of April at 2.00pm. Best of luck to Derek Doyle and his team Provincial Towns The Provincial Towns team will compete away to Moate Golf Club in the first round. The team of will consist of nine players. All players will be playing off scratch in a singles match play format. The match has been scheduled to take place on Saturday the 21 st of April at 2.00pm. Best of luck to David Dunne and his team. New Forest members should be familiar with this competition. After the success of last year, the club has an opportunity to defend a title. Tullamore Golf Club is the host of this competition. The club have completed the draw and put a date in place to have the first round completed. New Forest has been drawn to play at home to Co. Meath Golf Club. This must be played before May 6 th. 11 Fantasy Augusta HOW TO ENTER: 1. The entry panel contains 3 lines, one line costs 10 or 3 lines for 20. Select one golfer from each of the six boxes provided that you think will perform the best in the 2018 US Masters and write their numbers in the relevant boxes. 2. Please fill in your Name and Contact Number 3. Each entrant score is calculated purely on the basis of the selected golfers actual score to par in the US Masters. For example, if 1 golfer finishes on -5, golfer 2 on +15, golfer 3 on -8, golfer 4 on -1, golfer 5 on Par & golfer 6 on +2 then the total score for the 6 golfers is +3. Remember that if one of your chosen golfers fails to make the cut then his score is included in the final tally with an additional penalty on shots. 5. The entry panel is duplicated to facilitate the entrant keeping a record of their entry. 6. To enter, complete both panels, entering as many lines as you wish, remembering that each line costs 10 or 3 lines for 20, then cut one panel off and return the relevant entry fee to the Pro Shop or any committee member. RULES: 1. Select one golfer from each of six boxes overleaf. 2. All six golfers scores count. 3. If one or more of your golfers do not start you are automatically allocated the next ranked player outside the world top 60 as of the 27th February In the event of a tie the 1 st selection entered will decide the winner or placed contestant. If still tied move to the 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th, 5 th or 6 th golfer. 5. In the event of a dead heat tie the value of the tied prizes will be aggregated and then split evenly between the tied entrants. 6. 14 HOLL JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP Prices include insurance and coaching Ages Ages The coaching program begins in April and runs until September. Coaching sessions will take place on Mondays from 6pm - 8pm. There will be a total of 10 full sessions with our head professional. Other practice sessions will be conducted by our various members who have kindly volunteered their time. Juniors will be encouraged to play the course on Tuesday. Parents are welcome to join their children for their first few times on the course.
