The performance of the pro shop operation was very good. The revenues and comments have reflected a positive movement in the overall pro shop operations. It is in the city's best interest to retain Greg Mason as golf professional for another year. Attached is the proposed employment agreement. Listed are the differences from last year's agreement. $1, for 26 bi-weekly periods for a total of $32,000- Last year the total was $29,000. $1,000 for the Pro's PGA dues, and up to $500 for the Assistant Pro PGA dues on a reimbursement basis. $ for IPGA Events during 2008 on a reimbursement basis- Last year the pro received $300 in cell phone reimbursement and $200 in clothing allowance. The Pro will have an option to all of the revenues from group lessons registered through the Pro Shop. - Last year received 75% of revenues registered through the office. 25% of gross receipts for green fees over $136,000 for the season to be paid after December 1. In 2007 the threshold was $130,000 25% of gross receipts for cart rentals over $96,000 for the season to be paid after December 1. In 2007 the threshold was $90,000. 2 Employment Agreement Golf Professional 11/19/2007 This is an employment agreement between the City of Waverly Leisure Services Department (City) and Gregory A. Mason, PGA Golf Professional (Pro). The Pro's immediate supervisor will be the Director of Leisure Services. Term of Agreement- The term of this agreement will be one year: January through December 22, Extension of this agreement will be by mutual consent of both parties by October 1, Termination of this agreement will be in writing by either party with 30 days notice no earlier than September 1, Compensation will be reduced by the percent of season remaining after the last day of employment. 2. Compensation -The Pro will be employed for the contract year at a rate of $1, for 26 bi-weekly periods for a total of $32,000. The Pro will participate in the Iowa Public Employee Retirement System that will be matched by the City. All Federal and State required deductions will be taken out and appropriate tax information will be supplied. A pay schedule can be provided at the agreement of both parties. Additional Compensation- The Pro is an employee of the City of Waverly, and categorized as a seasonal full time and does not qualify for employment benefits. The Pro will receive up to $1,000 for PGA dues for himself and up to $500 for the PGA dues for the Assistant Pro on a reimbursement basis. The Pro will receive a maximum of $ for IPGA events during 2008 on a reimbursement basis. The City pays dues to USGA, NGF, VGM, and IGA. The Pro will have playing privileges. The Pro will receive all private lesson fees. The Pro will have an option to all of the revenues from group lessons registered through the Pro Shop. If contracted through the Youth Golf Program, the Pro will receive a per child fee for those registered for the Youth Golf Program. In 2006, it was $25/ child. 4. 3 Job Description See Attached 6. Accountability- Every effort should be made to safeguard the golf course receipts. Daily deposits to the bank are required. 7. Leave Time The expectation is that the Pro will be at work. There is no paid sick time. However, if sickness occurs, the Pro would notify the Leisure Service office and make sure the Pro Shop had adequate staffing. If a vacation is requested, notification must be on City Form with adequate notice and adequate shop coverage during absence. The Pro will provide a weekly staff schedule for the Pro Shop to the Director. Hours of Operation-The City expects the Pro to have a definite presence in the Pro Shop and Course. Efforts should be made to work in the Pro Shop at least 30 hours per week and all events and programs. The hours worked by the Pro in the Pro Shop would increase during the less busy portion of the season (Fall). 9. Lessons and Clinics-The Pro, at their discretion, can teach, set fees, schedule, and retain all revenues from private or group lessons. The Pro is responsible for all costs associated with private lessons. The Pro should make themselves available during the Youth Golf Program. 10. Off Season-The Pro is expected to have the Pro Shop stocked and ready for customers by April 1 of the season (or earlier if weather permits) and have the Pro Shop closed down, merchandise inventoried, and area cleaned approximately by December 7. A forwarding address is requested during the off season. 11. Merchandise- The Pro will provide an accurate inventory of goods on July 1 and at the close of the season. Employer Responsibilities-The City will provide the Pro Shop facility, pay for any invoices submitted for concessions and merchandise within the budgeted levels, process payroll when submitted according to a provided schedule, provide phone and internet utilities, an online handicap program, liability insurance, and security system. 13. Performance Review-Performance reviews will occur in late June and at the end of the season. The Pro will be evaluated on all facets of the shop and golf operations. The Pro will be evaluated by the Leisure Services Director. 14. Termination and Cancellation-The Pro may be discharged at any time for irregularities in financial reports and inventory, or for any arrest for legal infractions. The Pro may be discharged for documented repeated complaints by staff or public. The Pro may terminate this agreement with 30 days notice no earlier that September Breach of Contract-Will include any irregularities in financial reporting or inventory, failure to make a daily deposit, repeated complaints by the public or staff of inappropriate behavior or lack of cooperative or any legal infractions. It is also a breach for failure to provide adequate notice to the Director for absences. This agreement is constructed for the benefit of the Pro and City. The Pro understands the best interests of the City is in the Pro's best interests.
