1 KILWORTH SPRINGS GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT THE CLUB ON 2 July 2018 Present: Lady President Liz Scribbins, Lady Captain Sheila Major, Vice- Captain and Match Secretary Claire Kunz, Treasurer Sue Burgess, Monica Cockerill, VETS. Rep. Sue Jones, Valerie Wilford and Jane Chivers by phone Apologies: Tina Morley, Susan Tuckley Matters Arising: None - May minutes approved and signed off. LADY CAPTAINS REPORT JULY 2018 Results Scratch league The first game of the season proved to be tight but resulted in a loss 4 and 1 for Kilworth against a very strong team for the Leicestershire club away. The second match at home against Lutterworth was also tough against county players, and resulted in a 3 ½ and 1 ½ loss Handicap league We won the 2 nd match against Hinkley at home and lost the final very tough match of the against Willesley 2 and 1 Friendly matches The ladies went over to Beedles Lake on 30 th May and played in a mixed team of ladies in a 3 Ball Alliance. Won by Claire Kunz and 2 home ladies. This team format proved to be a successful and popular which was repeated for the Whetstone match at home last week, won by Sue Jones, Penny Grimwood and their partners with 70 points. We lost against Rugby away 3-1 We won the match against Brampton heath 2 up but it was decided to only play 9 holes as it was so hot! Mixed matches We lost the match against the Warwickshire away 5 and 3 Harlestone mixed match was played as a mixed 4BBB and a great time was had by all. May stableford This was also the Stableford Trust competition whereby the winning scores of the Silver and Bronze divisions are added together. This was won by Claire Kunz and Chris Atkin both with 33 points with Elaine Moreton in 3rd place on countback, also with 33 points. June Stableford Was won by Susan Tuckley with Mary Darcy and Shirley Hardy all scoring 34 points

2 May Medal Was won by Val Foster with net 74 with Sam Chell in 2 nd place on countback June Medal Well done to Sue Ruddle who hit her form to produce a win with net 71, knocking Suzy Burgess into 2 nd place with net 75 and Jane Collins into 3 rd place with net 76. Sue is one to watch as her handicap begins to come down! Regional Medal Final at Burton on Trent Sheila Major was expertly caddied by Nicky Collett and finished 29 th out of 92 with a net 82, it was won with a net 72! Mid week 9-hole mixed National Golf challenge This was a qualifying competition to play at Carnoustie and attracted a strong field of players, this resulted in a magnificent second place for Maisie Perry, with 20 points Rabbits, a stableford competition for 28 + players was won by Mary Darcy with 32 points, who defeated Elaine Moreton and Joyce Doyle, both with 30 points Hares 21 to 27 handicappers was won by Ann Clayton with 32 points with Liz Scribbins in second place with 30 points Foxes, under 20 handicappers was won by Deb West with 32 points and Peta Vincent in second place with 30 points Ladies Australian Spoons Current leaders are Deb West and Val Foster with 38 points Captains v Vice Captains Fun game Resulted in a draw! Boobs and wrinkles This was played as mixed teams Texas scramble and was won by Julia Worley, John Snell and Gabe Corbett with Shirley Hardy, Alan Gibson and Colin Hibbard in second place. Sue Jones and Lesley Parker won the nearest the pin comp on the par 3 s. County Mixed Foursomes We were represented by Peta Vincent and Ken MacDonald, and Lorna Morris and Jack Hall who did extremely well to beat Longcliffe 5 up and who go on to play Rothley in the next round. Ping Competition was won by Sarah Smith and Ann Clayton with an amazing 48 points. Some terrific scores were posted with Shirley hardy and Liz Scribbins coming 2 nd with 43 points and Suzy Burgess and Sue Wenlock and jane Chivers and Pam Gibson both scoring 41 points.

3 Nifty Fifties at Kibworth Kilworth Springs players did themselves proud with the team of Sam Chell, Jules Duval and Jane Collins winning with 72 points followed in 3 rd place by Susan Tuckley, Sue Jones and Pam Gibson with 68 points. Team kit Jane Chivers has done a magnificent job in sourcing new team kit for us in turquoise, the polo shirts and fleeces have been ordered for a very reasonable price and include a range of options. Printing can be arranged for 2.50 per garment and I would like to propose that the ladies section covers this cost. Thank you, Jane,! Update from Jane Orders from the ladies have been processed, dispatched, and have arrived. I will be readying them for collection Thursday onwards. Whilst I acknowledge the journey has not been ideal, my views are; From viewing potential kit and discussion with Richard at our Open, valuable time was lost waiting for his response in sending sizes and I take responsibility for not chasing him sooner than I did. Not that that elicited a speedy reply either from him. Subsequently, working with Rina from Ozgolf has been a definite plus and she has been far more responsive and organised to fulfil our remit. Yes, the deadline for orders was short but she and JRB itself had agreed to hold all of the available stock exclusively for us - which was some negotiation. Our chosen colour Aqua fortuitously happens to be 'in' this year with a limited number of manufacturers. I do not believe, despite considering the time scale of this project, risking sourcing this colour again next year would yield a more positive result. Yes, the polos Ollie can obtain probably will be, but these are generic 'team' garments be it workwear or sports and therefore no sleeveless polos/ or jumpers are available. Rina notified me last week that JRB had communicated unexpected further availability for some items which I have ring-fenced. I also acknowledge that some ladies wished to try sizes first, and for the club to purchase various ones would have been helpful. Finally, can I highlight that it is apparent in the world of specifically designed, quality, and fit for purpose ladies golf gear that it is very much a yearly and seasonal one. In order to capture volume and size availability, a new colour would probably be the only way forward if we were to delay until next year. Regardless of the dilemma of deciding on a popular new colour I feel that consequently requiring every lady to buy new kit rather than renewing/updating or first time purchasing would be unfair. Ready golf A special reminder that the first player on the tee should take her drive before all scores are written down, this really does speed up play! It appears that we are still not moving onto the tee in good time!

4 Feedback from Jane Chivers from our chat (with Sheila Major) after playing on Thursday you will be aware of my views on slow play and etiquette. Still work to be done upping the standards of both I believe. Whilst we should be mindful of the variety of ages, fitness, handicap, knowledge and playing abilities of our considerably large ladies membership, these issues remain and require addressing. A further and 'aide memoir' notices may be helpful. Also, as previously discussed at committee, a 'buddying up' system encouraging learning opportunities for the above. I was fortunate to start my playing career with great mentors which was invaluable, and I will always credit them for. Much discussion ensued, and it was decided to produce 2 sign up sheets, one for those members wishing to take up the offer of a golf buddy and one for those who wished to volunteer their services to take out less experienced players and coach them in course management, etiquette and rules. It was noted however that even experienced players did not always know the rules and understand concept of ready golf. One point that is worth repeating is however that of always having a player ready to tee off whilst others record scores etc. A speed of play poster will be put on back of toilet doors etc. Etiquette There have been some concerns expressed about waving through faster players and members are reminded of the rules in this respect. Ladies are respectfully reminded that generally sign up sheets are taken down and the draw made on the Thursday for the following Monday and on the Monday for the following Thursday. Please remember to take your name off the sheet if you no longer wish to play, before the sheets are removed and the draw made, this avoids all last-minute post draw amendments. Thank you for your co-operation. Future events. Cold Ashby Plate Sunday 15 th July Lady captains weekend away, Welcome Hotel Stratford Sept 2 nd and 3 rd Unfortunately, 2 ladies have dropped out of the weekend away at this beautiful venue, taking us below the 16 needed to secure the best prices, so we are looking for 2 replacements. The price of 120 includes a round of golf, celebration drinks party and dinner on Sunday night, and golf, coffee and sandwiches on Monday. The hotel has excellent leisure and spa facilities available for us to use throughout our stay. Let me know asap if you are interested please. Captains Day 21 st July Thank you to those who have already offered to help. You will be pleased to know that it is not a shotgun start at 7 am. It does however include the Race for Turnberry for which 5 ladies are required to join the men as competitors in a competition to raise money for injured service men and women. Last year our club s men s team won through to the final to play at this magnificent venue. More helpers still required please to help the many events running on this day.

5 Fun Competition 19 th July This will be a reverse waltz in 3 s sign up as individuals in the ladies locker room. Whetstone Open Thursday 26 th July The Whetstone ladies are keen to remind us that we are very welcome at their next ladies Open comp. Horsley Lodge 8 th August Sarah has organised this popular away day and open entry with 24 ladies signed up, thank you Ladies Club championships. 11 th and 12 th August A 2-day medal, max handicap 28 with prizes for best net and gross scores. Winner represents the club in the Queen of Clubs comp You need to have competed in at least 3 individual comps to be eligible for entry to this competition. Lady Captains Fun day changed from Thursday 16 th August to Monday 20 th August with meal Ladies Away Day Rutland Water Monday 8 th October Sign up sheets are now up, cost of golf 36 inc. 2 course meal, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival Handicap secretaries report Item deferred until the next meeting when Tina will report back on the world slope index and change in SSI following our course measurement. Speculative discussion ensued concerning the immediate and future impact of the changes. Treasurers Report Sue Burgess reported that after charity donations had been deducted from the accounts there is a healthy balance of 2,700. The cheque for Sarah Smith s charity Leicester hospitals has been issued (well over 1,000) and if we can find the giant cheque it will be used for the photograph and handed over at the changed date for the captain s fun day in August. It was agreed that the team kit would be subsidised by the section paying for the embroidery of garments at 2.50 per piece and that ladies would try on and then hand back to the office any garments ready for embroidery. This is a good deal and there are no set up costs and turn around is quick! AOB Sarah Smith raised the issue of who represents the club in the County Foursomes and according to the lady s handbook it should be the winners and runners up of the mixed Greensomes, providing that their handicaps are low enough (12 for men and 24 for women)

6 The Baxter Trophy in October should be the best 2 players in the club. SM to raise it at main club committee meeting on wed as it is uncertain who should be organising the teams as it was too late and too confused this year. (this has been clarified and role of team selection falls to comps secretary!) Liz Scribbins the issue of the colour of shorts, skorts and trousers worn along with the turquoise kit for matches and it was agreed that the items should be either navy, white or turquoise as we seem to be getting too many colour variations. Length of skirt was also seen to be an issue with some ladies, being too short with inadequate coverage! Next meeting Tues 21 st August at 6.00pm at the club Signed Sheila Major Lady Captain Date..

Sarah hoped everyone had enjoyed the Christmas Texas Scramble and meal.
