MATCH REPORTS 2001 Saturday, 29 December - Illawarra Golf Course - 3 Clubs + Putter Due to the NSW Bushfires over the Christmas/New Year period, there was no game played today because vehicular access to the Golf Course was not permitted. On Friday, 28 December, Michael Connor organised a game of golf at New Brighton Golf Course which was attended by a number of our members. New Brighton is a lovely golf course and the day will remain strong in the mind of Steve O'Grady after his spectacular 'hole-in-one' on the 13th hole. Saturday, 22 December - Auburn Golf Course - Par A long game on a short course today. We were a bit late starting (possibly due to overbooking) and five hours later we finished. The player with the most stamina was Garry Daniels who came in with a score of +7. The runner-up was Peter Bull with +5. The Pink Ball was won by Hal Connor with -5 on a countback from Gary Hodsdon. Under the circumstances it was appropriate to give them both a Pink Ball. Many thanks to Bob Siecker for printing our 2002 Cards. Saturday, 15 December - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Man Ambrose There was no game today. 20 odd hardy souls turned up at 5.45am at Royal Illawarra to play, but the weather beat them. The first group had just teed off on the second hole when the decision was made to abandon the day's event. Torrential rain hit the course from about 6.15am until 7.30am making huges lakes in the middle of lakes and greens. The Treasurer had elected to put on a feast for lunch today (king prawns, assorted meats etc) which when washed down with a beer or two made an unusual breakfast. Our thanks to Bob Mayor for the catering. Free game next week for those who paid today. Saturday, 8 December - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Stableford + Individual Stableford The weather was not kind today - light misty rain for much of the round with a heavy downpour lasting 4 to 5 holes in the middle of the game. It was so poor that Adri, sorry Denis Daniels packed up and left after playing only 7 holes. The days' winners were Bob Kay and Hal Connor with 49 points, with Bob Kay 1

also picking up the individual prize with 37 points from Hal Connor on 36 points. The Pink Ball was initially awarded to Gary Barnes with 18 points but that decision was rescinded when it was pointed out that Denis Daniels had only scored 2 points by the 7th hole when he walked off. Saturday, 1 December - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par After a week of unsettled weather, today was a pleasant sunny day. The fairways had plenty of run, the greens were in great condition and the scores reflected that. The days' winner was Dick Daniels with a score of +10 with Ray Davies the runner-up on +8. There followed a gaggle of players on +7. In fact there were only two players who failed to finsih in the black. Saturday, 24 November - Bexley Golf Course - Individual Stableford The day wasn't too bad with the exception of one heavy shower and a bit of lightning that worried one player (no names - no pack drill Shep). The day's event was won by Peter Bull with 44 points from Ray Davies with 43 points. The Monthly Point Score Winner was Garry Daniels with 29 points on a countback from Paul Baillie. Saturday, 17 November - Kogarah Golf Course - 4 ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford After a week of inclement weather, it was a pleasant surprise to have such a lovely day. Kogarah Golf Course is in absolutely magnificient condition at the moment. The events winners were Mark Buso and Graeme Riekie with 52 stableford points on a countback from Graham Jones and Paul Baillie. Mark Buso picked up the individual prize with 44 stableford points from Garry Daniels on 40. A bit of hard luck today for Brian 'Yappy' Hughes. Whilst he was out on the course, some thieves broke into his van and stole tools and equipment. Actions like this leave a bad taste in the mouth. Saturday, 10 November - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - ANNUAL DAY Annual Day is historically a BIG day, many players having to be up by 4.00am to catch the bus and not getting home before 7.00pm with a game of golf, a great lunch and ample quantities of beer in the middle. It's probably a good idea to have a moderately quiet night before the big day - just ask Terry Overhall. The golf course was in magnificient condition, the weather perfect and the scores reflected this. Lindsay Grimble came home with 28 stableford points on the back nine to take out the main prize with 48 points on a countback from Bob Kay. Close behind were Paul Baillie and Gary Barnes on 47 points and Bob Siecker and Norm Miles on 45 points. After the game, we headed to the Albion Park Bowling Club for lunch and the presentations. Our thanks to the staff of the club as well as Greg from Tiger Tours for getting us there and back in safety. A day as big as this only happens because of the hard work of many people and Bob Jones, Keith Pettit and Peter Bull deserve the thanks of everyone for ensuring the day went so well. 2

Saturday, 3 November - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - (Guzzlers Guzzlers Playoff) A cool start to the first November game caught some by surprise (though not the eventual winner who came dressed in one of his more colourful green jumpers). Garry Daniels won the day's event on 40 points from Brian Hughes on a countback from Paul Baillie on 38 points. New member Paul Baillie secured the Guzzlers Guzzler with his performance. One wonders if some players were protecting their handicaps for next weeks Annual Day? Saturday, 27 October - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Aggregate Par + Individual Par It didn't surprise anyone this morning that it was extremely windy down at Illawarra today. What did surprise was how well some of our players handled the conditions. Bob Mayor led the charge with an individual +8 (welcome to A Grade) closely followed by Bob Jones and Ray Davies on +6. The pairs event went to Garry Daniels (+5) and Bob Stewart (+4) for a combined score of +9. Congratulations to Ivan Lloyd on his birthday today (age not specified) and to John Adelerhof for winning the Monthly Point Score for October with 31 points. Welcome back to Graham Weidenhofer after a battle with a blood clot and also to former member Paul Llorente who dropped in for a game as a visitor. We hope its not too long before he's back playing regularly. Saturday, 20 October - Rosnay Golf Course (Auburn) - 2 Ball Multiplier + Individual Stableford A crisp morning (and it would be at 5.55am) saw 28 players play a game that had not been tried before. The weather was fine ( a bit of wind) and no excuses for poor form today. The team winners were John Adelerhof and Paul Baillie with 89 stableford points, the runners-up being Graeme Jones and Steve Vormister with 88 points. The individual winner was John Adelerhof with 44 stableford points on a countback from John Rowan. The previous week's winner proved that golf is a vicious game - first to last in one week. Saturday, 13 October - Macarthur Grange Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Par + Individual Par The weather was near perfect with a bit of wind getting up halfway through the round. The winning team were Graeme Riekie and Scott Whyte who scored +14 with Scott Whyte picking up the individual event with +6. Beware the handicapper. Also impressive was Graham Jones with an individual +5. Congratulations to Tim Pooley on his 44th birthday today. Saturday, 6 October - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford The final round of the Club Championships and a perfect day for golf at Woolooware. Such a pity the scores didn't reflect the conditions. Today's winner with 36 stableford points was Craig Shephard (on a countback from Graeme Riekie). The championships were also decided, with Mick Connor retaining the Club 3

Championship for the third year running, Terry Overhall taking out the A Grade, Barry Hudson the B Grade, Keith Pettit the C Grade and like a bolt of lightning, John Adelerhof took out the D Grade. Congratulations to all winners. Saturday, 29 September - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford Round 2 of the Club Championships. Terry Overhall had the game of his life (76 off the stick - 42 points) to jump to a commanding lead in the A Grade Stableford Championship and share the lead in the Club Championship with Mick Connor. Tim Pooley faded in the B Grade with Barry Hudson taking the lead. Keith Pettit has a tight grip on the C Grade Championship after this weeks performance. Paul Baillie will have the handicapper looking more closely after todays effort - he keeps the lead in D Grade. Bob Mayor spent some time after the game looking for the 'pink ball'. Saturday, 22 September - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford Round 1 of the Club Championships (Illawarra) saw last years Grade Winners lead the field off. The first group comprised Mick Connor (A Grade), Tim Pooley (B Grade), Denis Daniels (C Grade) and Graham Weidenhofer (D Grade). By days end, Mick Connor was leading A Grade, Tim Pooley had put in a great effort (43 points) to be ahead in B grade, while the Vice-Captain, Keith Pettit had one of those days (42 points) to be leading C Grade. One of our newest members, Paul Baillie led the charge for D Grade with a steady 40 points. Oh yes, Peter Bull had a shocker - he took the 'pink ball' with dignity - he'll probably agree that mobile phones should be banned on the course. Saturday, 15 September - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Aggregate + Individual Stableford Todays event at Woolooware was significant for one reason - its one week to go to the Club Champs and no one wanted to lose any strokes before then. The winners of the 2 Ball Best Ball Aggregate were Graham Jones and Garry Daniels with 70 points. the individual Stableford event was won by Paul Baillie with 39 points. Saturday, 8 September - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par 33 starters today for this much loved event. John Rowan won the day with a +9 from Gary Barnes with +8. Saturday, 1 September - Auburn Golf Course - Stableford There were 25 starters and the winner on 40 points was Lindsay Grimble with the runner-up being Bob Jones on 39 points (countback from Brian Hughes and Graham Jones). Saturday, 25 August - Illawarra Golf Course - A-B-C-D Stableford Denis Daniels won the Guzzler's with 39 points. The A grade went to Terry Overhall with 36 points, Denis Daniels won the B Grade, Gary Barnes won C Grade and Paul Liggins won D Grade on a countback from Gary Hodsdon. 4

Saturday, 18 August - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball The winning team today was Bob Jones and Ray (the Fox) Davies with a score of 46 points. The individual winner was Ray Davies with 38 points. Saturday, 11 August - Illawarra Golf Course - Par The winner today was Denis Daniels with +4 on a countback from Bob Mayor. Welcome to a new member, Paul Baillie. Saturday, 4 August - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball John Rarity and Brian Hughes (a pair that would rival Schwarzenegger and De Vito for the lead roles in Twins) were victorious in today's event with 50 points. The Guzzler's Cup went to Hal Connor with 37 points on a countback from Arnold, sorry John Rarity. Saturday, 28 July - Auburn Golf Course - Stableford A small field today (only 16 starters) saw Graham Meyer walk away with the prize after scoring 39 points. The runner-up was Barry Hudson on 38 points. Bob Kay won the Monthly Point Score competition for July with 27 points on a countback from Peter Bull. Saturday, 21 July - Woolooware - Stableford The day's winner was Bob Stewart who didn't find out for a week because he didn't hang around for the announcements. The big news of the day was a Hole-in-One for the Vice-Captain, Keith Pettit on the 16th hole. Congratulations Keith from all at the club. Saturday, 14 July - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Annual Hackers Challenge There was a big roll-out for today's challenge match with the Engadine Hackers. The honours went to the Hackers on this occasion with an 8-2 victory, but there were a number of comments passed about the state of the handicapping list for the opposition. One well known Hacker, Bob Crean played an absolutely outstanding game off an incredible handicap of 34. I wasn't aware that golfers of that ilk were able to get birdies and pars. On the day, the hackers had 11 players score 40 points or more and we could not manage one. Peter Bull was out best player with a grinding 39 points. Hal Connor and Brian Van Dyk scored 46 points in the 2 Ball Best Ball. There is always next year. Saturday, 7 July - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford There were 25 starters today, with two visitors. Bob Jones was again the winner with 37 points, the runner-up being Rick Moffitt on 35 points on a countback from Ken Hodson. 5

Saturday, 30 June - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Par + Individual Par The winners of the 2 BBB Par event today were Steve O'Grady and Lindsay Grimble. The individual Par winner was Graeme Weidenhofer. Today was the last round of the Annual Eclectic competition which was won by Tim Pooley with a net score of 59. He must have been on song, because Tim was also the winner of the Monthly Point Score. Saturday, 23 June - Macarthur Grange Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford The weather was kind, but cool today out in the wooly south west. the winners of the 2 BBB were Graham Jones and Barry Hudson with 45 points. The runners-up were Todd Stringer and Mark Buso on 39 points. Interestingly, Mark Buso won the Individual Stableford with 39 points. Saturday, 16 June - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par There were 28 starters today at Illawarra, with John Rowan coming through to win the days event. The runner-up was Ken Hodson on a countback from Glen Holland. Saturday, 9 June - Macarthur Grange Golf Course - Stableford This was the first visit to Macarthur Grange for many members and the lack of knowledge about the course layout showed. The day was won by Adrian Adelerhof with 40 points from Tim Pooley on 38 points. The designers of the fine course must have spent quite some time looking for the hilliest hundred acres that could be found in the area. It is a challenge. Saturday, 2 June - Illawarra Golf Course - Stroke It's been a while since we've played a Stroke event and we all know why. The event was won by Tim Pooley on a net 70 with Richie Cunningham second on a net 75. The President thought he was in the race at 4 over after 6 holes, but then came the 7th. Stupid shot followed stupid shot and he finally chipped in for an 11 (on a par 3). Lesson learned. Saturday, 26 May - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Stableford Another beautiful day at Calderwood until the wind got up. Very few players managed the conditions, with Terry Van Dyk (42 points) and Peter Bull (40 points) being the exceptions. The Monthly Point Score was won by Barry Bungard. Saturday, 19 May - Illawarra Golf Course - Par There were 26 starters today for this event. With winter just around the corner, it was a bit chilly down on Maddens Plains (where bad weather is born). The winner today was John Donald with +3 with the runner-up being Dick Daniels on +1 on a countback from Adrian Adelerhof. Saturday, 12 May - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford The Vice Captain Keith Pettit and reigning Club Champion Mick Connor combined well to win the days event with 43 points. Mick Connor won the individual event with 39 points. 6

Saturday, 5 May - Illawarra Golf Course - Ray Fenton Memorial Trophy Nathan Swain picked a great day to play himself into form. His 40 stableford points was enough to win him the Ray Fenton Memorial Trophy held in honour of one of the stalwarts of the club as well as the 6 monthly Guzzlers Guzzlers. Murray Beehag won the A Grade event, Nathan Swain the B Grade, Steve Vormister the C Grade and Barry Bungard the D Grade. Thanks to Jack Toomey, representing the Sports Council for his attendance and the kind donation of 1st prize today. Saturday, 28 April - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par There were 25 players today including 2 visitors. The day's event was won by Peter Rogerson with a score of +7 on a countback from John Adelerhof. The Monthly Point Score for April was decided with the winner being Bob Mayor. Saturday, 21 April - Kogarah Golf Course - Stableford Todd Stringer could do no wrong today with a magnificent 44 stableford points to win the day's event. Bob Mayor was the only other player within a bulls roar of Todd. Saturday, 14 April - Bexley Golf Course - Par This picturesque little golf course was the scene for today's game. Bob Mayor led the charge with a score of +3 with Brian Van Dyk the runner-up on a countback from Brian 'Yappy' Hughes. Saturday, 7 April - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford There were 28 starters today with the highlight being the final of the Annual Matchplay Championship. In the end Craig Shephard won out beating Gary Hodsdon 5 and 3. The day's event was won by Denis Daniels on 41 points from Hal Connor on 38 points. Saturday, 31 March - Auburn Golf Course - Stableford This week saw the semi-finals of the Matchplay with a tremendous battle between Gary Hodsdon and Neale Pearson. Gary was successful in going through to the final and also won the day's event with 45 points. Neale was the runner-up with 43 points. In the other semi-final, Craig Shephard defeated Murray Beehag. The Monthly Point Score was won by Nathan Swain and the 6 Monthly Point Score was won by Peter Bull. Saturday, 24 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford A rare return to form saw the President, Scott Whyte take out the honours today with 47 points - without question the best round of his life. Gary Hodsdon was the runner-up on 37 points. In the Matchplay, Craig Shephard defeated Ray Davies, Murray Beehag defeated Cameron Walker, Neale Pearson defeated Graham Meyer and Gary Hodsdon defeated Todd Stringer. Saturday, 17 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford Neale Pearson won the game today with a solid 43 points from Cameron Walker on 42 points. In the Matchplay, Craig Shephard defeated Graeme Weidenhofer, Murray Beehag defeated Ivan Lloyd, Cameron Walker won on a forfeit from Mick Connor, Gary Hodsdon was victorious over Barry Bungard, Todd Stringer beat Tim Pooley, 7

Saturday, 10 March - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford There were 34 starters in this event which was also the first round of Matchplay for the year. Mick Connor was the winner on 39 points from Garry Daniels on 37 points. In the matchplay, Cameron Walker defeated Bob Jones, Graeme Weidenhofer defeated Brian Hughes, Murray Beehag beat Mick Casey, Craig Shephard beat Nathan Swain, Gary Hodsdon beat Bob Mayor, Todd Stringer defeated Bob Siecker and Neale Pearson defeated Gary Barnes. Saturday, 3 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Par There were only 21 players at Illawarra today, with John Donald taking the honours with a score of +5. The runnerup was Rick Moffitt on +4. The Monthly Point Score winner for February was Peter Bull. Saturday, 24 February - Nowra (Friday) - Catalina (Saturday) - Hilltop (Sunday) This weekend saw the annual Golf Weekend away. 24 members made the journey to the south coast, playing at 3 great courses over 3 days. The weather was kind to us whilst we were playing though it came down in buckets late Saturday afternoon stranding many members in the Mollymook Golf Club - without umbrellas it was simply impossible to get back to the motel - what a shame. We won't worry about the scores this time around. Saturday, 17 February - Auburn Golf Course - Stableford 25 starters today with Cameron Walker taking the spoils with 40 points from John Adelerhof on 38 points. Saturday, 10 February - Eastlake Golf Course - Stableford A welcome to 4 new members today. Mark Buso, Andrew Fraser, Jason Hodsdon and Bob Stewart. The days event was won by Graham Meyer with 40 points from John Adelerhof on 38 points. Saturday, 3 February - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford Another fine day at Woolooware with a few high scores to match. Bob Mayor was the winner with 43 points and the runner-up was Cameron Walker on 37 points. Saturday, 27 January - Illawarra Golf Course - Stroke The Miranda RSL Snooker Club were invited to play a challenge match today. In the end, the golfers won the day by 805 strokes to 842. Bob Jones won the day with a nett 62 (great golf) ahead of Graeme Riekie on a nett 66. Cameron Walker scored the least putts with 28. The Monthly Point Score winner was Peter Bull Saturday, 20 January - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford Peter Bull and Dick Daniels combined well to take out the prize with a combined score of 52 points. Peter won the Guzzlers Cup with an individual score of 42 points. 8

Saturday, 13 January - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - 6 x 6 x 6 + Individual Stableford We don't play 6 x 6 x 6 very often, but it is a popular team event. All 4 players work together as a team with the best score being counted from the first 6 holes, the two best scores counting for the middle 6 holes and three of the four scores having to be taken on the final 6 holes. The winners today with a combined score of 96 points were Murray Beehag, Hal Connor, Dick Daniels and Brian Hughes. In second place with 92 points were Barry Hudson, Graeme Riekie, Bob kay and Col Davies. The individual winner was Rob Cunningham with 47 points (he parred the course). Saturday, 6 January - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford First game of the year took us to Woolooware where Nathan Swain took the prize with 39 points on a countback from Steve O'Grady. 9
