S H W I C M M H I N W G S E P R L M H I N W G S E P R S H It may seem a little early to start thinking about the swimming season...maybe not. A few thoughts at this time are probably warranted. he pool will be available for swimming April 29 st, but won't officially open until Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 27 th. he official closing will be Labor Day, Monday, September 4 th. It will be available for swimming through ctober 1 st. Sooner if the rains start, or it gets too cold to swim. he summer pool membership program that was implemented last summer will be available this year. It was a very successful program that introduced many people to our club and was a significant source of new income. In the past (several years in fact) water aerobics and swimming lessons were offered at the pool and were very successful, especially water aerobics. W I C M If there is enough interest we will try it again. Ideally we would like someone within the club to conduct the aerobics class, and someone within the club that is qualified to give swimming lessons. Both aerobics and lessons would be held weekdays at 9:00 am or 10:00 am. Details to be worked out if enough interest is shown. Both programs would be for members only. If you are interested in participating in either one of these programs, or have any suggestions, please me at the above address. he Pool Attendant program that was implemented last year, and was very successful, will again be in effect. hchowser@sbcglobal.net

G S R E E A E N N S C B E R N I E E N Well, who out there is ready for some more rain? I guess if you are not ready by now, you will never will be. If you are one that likes drama, we have seen lots of drama haven t we. Let me see if I can remember a few of them. Virtually every pass closed at one time or another due to mudslides and sometimes all at the same time. How about broken dams? I can t ever remember seeing such carnage to a dam in the lower 48 as I have at roville in my lifetime. Some of it self-imposed, most of it avoidable, it would seem. hen there was the mass evacuations from roville to nearly Sacramento that was hardly an evacuation at all since all everybody did was evacuate from their homes to the street. hen there were the levee breaches south of Sacramento that had folks scrambling as reservoirs reached capacity and water had to be released into rivers already swollen with day after day of rainfall on saturated ground. How about avalanches? Yep had some of those too. he old saying is for March has something to do with lambs and lions and the end of the month being directly opposite to the beginning so we will see what happens this time and deal with it whatever it is. Challenges this month come in the form of mowing and punching of the fairways. With all of the rain, the ground remains too soft in many of the areas to operate mowers. We will be attempting to do as many as we can and maybe parts of some of the wetter ones, but the weather will dictate exactly what happens there. he same can be said for the aerification process. While penetration should be excellent, damage caused by the weight of the tractor and attachment could be too severe, so we will try to operate with the same parameters of doing only what we can, when we can. With the fairway cut looking very much like the rough cut, it promises to be a tough Spring transition this time around. I have seen in my long history here a few years when we didn t even turn on the irrigation until June. his could be one of he Nature Pic of the Week this time around highlights nature not in the form of an animal or a plant, but in a form we ve probably seen too much of late, weather. As you enjoy the golf course this summer, take a moment to think back just a few months and recall the depths at which the water ran across the course and how different that was to the previous 4 years and finally keep in mind just how fickle and unpredictable life in this solar system.

G L F - K A C E Y Y L E R he Golf Shop Don't complain about not being able to use your rain gear or your umbrella for at least a year. If you haven't used them in the last two months then you just didn't go outside. he rain has been relentless and has just shut everything down except skiing, if you ski then your dreams have come true. As for the course it has a lot of water but looks very good no erosion or major problems. Now with Spring just around the corner the course has some good nutrients from the rain and will be growing like crazy. he boys will be mowing as soon as possible and the grass will be green and thick. Don't complain about the rough we will want to grow that grass up on the left side of #2 and the right of eight and all those other spots on the course. However as we move back on to the course please try to avoid those places that have problems growing grass. You are in a power cart take the time to go around. ake the time to take care of your course. For the month of March we go back to EE IMES so be sure your group has a spot on Mondays and Fridays and check the frost line to make sure there is not a frost delay. he evenings will be busy with the Nevada Union Golf eam so please plan your play around them.

So far 2017 has been a total wash out for the Nif-ee Niners. he powers that be decided that it should either rain, snow or be too wet to play on hursday! N A I N F N Y P N D I I N E E L R S S K I We have added one new player to the group, Amanda amo and lost Elena Bennett to Utah. ur group total is still at nine this year. Nine ladies in the Niners!! Four of us, Glenda, Kathy, Carol and Ann met one hursday to catch up on the past couple of months and see what everyone was up to. Hopefully hursdays will start to dry out a bit. Everyofane is ready to play and we hope we still remember how to hold a club. RAIN, RAIN G AWAY!

W R M B E I N N S V A G N L M F E C R L E U B Andi Davis, Jodi Gillespie, Barb Pearce, Peggy Hubert and Vida Santos Well it was wishful thinking that we would have more play days in February. he ladies were able to get Captain s rophy in on the last hursday in January and that was the last time we played. February was rainy and soggy. When the rain subsided for a few days and there was a slim chance the course would open on the 23 rd we woke up to a dusting of snow covering Alta Sierra. So that was it for February. he forecast is looking more promising for March. Let s keep our fingers crossed. Captain Ellie Cardwell, Betty Koski, Doreen Lewallen and I attended the WGANC North Valley Regional Meeting at Northridge Country Club on the 15 th of February. his is a well-run meeting with break out sessions. You will be hearing information from us in he Green Gazette and at our monthly meetings. Seventeen ladies came out to play Captain s rophy on the 26 th of January. Jean Metz won Captain s rophy for January. 18 R J E A A N D E C R S R E C R N E R HE WNDER BY EMMA DNGHUE Emma Donoghue author of critically acclaimed Room brings another powerful novel he Wonder. In a poor small village in Ireland a young girl has gone without eating for four months. Is this a miracle of God or just a ploy so this village can have its local saint. his eleven year old girl claims she is being fed manna from heaven. Lib Wright, a, Florence Nightingale trained English nurse is hired to observe Anna. Lib along with a local Catholic nun observe 24 hours a day. When Lib arrives, Anna seems to be in relatively good health. Could this be a true miracle. But as the days proceed, Anna s health deteriorates. Lib is convinced that this is a hoax and tries everything to get her to eat. What is behind the reason for fasting? his is a bringing together of the new practice of nursing and the old traditions stemming from the Church. As Lib searches and ultimately learns the truth she is confronted with the dilemma of saving a life or breaking the law. How will this story end, in death or resurrection?
