Borit Reeder, President, attended the USGA Annual Meeting in New York. Office Rent during the year was $2.445 per month. The Regional Meetings in February were attended by almost 600 members. The Board approved replacement of the laptops from 1997 with nineteen Dell laptops. The old laptops are now used for TPP seminars held at member clubs.

2 The Board followed the advice from our accountant not to link to Women s Southern California Golf Association web site due to their commercial advertising. The Board signed a three-year contract with Women s Nine Hole Golf Association to provide handicap service for WNHGA commencing Beginning April 1 st the allowable expense for mileage was increased to 35 cents per mile. The Board approved to fund the Course Rating Calibration to be held in Castlewood in 2002 for all Course Rating Committee members. Jim Dodd, USGA will be in charge. Through the USGA sponsored Computer Assistant Program, Roger Hewitt, computer consultant, was hired in October to assist WGANC for approximately 6-8 months. Director of Education, a new position, was established. The Director of Education will be responsible for the training, instructions and education of the members of the WGANC Board of Directors. The position as Uniform Director was eliminated. The office will take over the responsibilities of the Uniform Director. One of the highlights of the year for directors, members and member clubs golf professionals took place during two days at the Hilton Hotel, Pleasanton when Ross Galarneault, Manager, GHIN Regional Associations Services, at our invitation conducted four TPP Seminars. Another highlight was the Team Challenge, our inaugural tournament held at Moraga and Orinda. The format was two better balls of four. Each member had the choice of selecting a team from her home club or making up a team with players from different member clubs. We received 360 entries and accepted 200 (50 teams) by blind draw. A permanent award was established for the tournament USGA Girls Junior Championship was held at Indian Hills, Kansas City, Kansas. WGANC assisted nine girls from Northern California to participate. Thanks are to be given to our membership for its yearly contribution of $.25 per member. The 6 th Annual California Women s Championship was held on July at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon. Bonnie Wood was the tournament coordinator. In 2002 the site selected is Industry Hills Golf Course-Eisenhower Course, City of Industry in Southern California with Tillie Brunello, PWGA, as coordinator. The 4 th USGA Women s State Team Championship took place at Woodhill CC, Wayzata in Minnesota. The three players who qualified during the California Women s Championship to compete and represent the state of California were Lyn Nelson, Half Moon Bay, Lynne Cowan, El Macero and Corey Weworski, Shadowridge with Borit Reeder WGANC as a non-playing team captain. Forty-eight states participated and our California team finished sixth overall. The 2 nd annual PWGA/WGANC Challenge was held at Mount Shasta Resort. Again the PWGA was victorious. WGANC approved the recommendation to appoint three certified Rules Committee Members as Regional Co-Chairs of our Rules Committee as of : East Bay, and North Bay: K.C. Coté Peninsula, San Francisco, and Monterey: Ava Schaefer

3 North Valley, and River Valley: Annette Reynolds Due to the tragedies of September 11 th, and with only 31 entries, the 2001 Match Play Championship at River Island was canceled. There were 53 Open Days held in 2001 with participants and 14 No Shows. During the year our newsletter Through the Green was released four times. A motion was approved on December 2 nd to appoint Pat Denton Executive Director of WGANC. WGANC donated $500 each to California Women s Amateur Championship (CWAC) towards the California Junior Girls State Championship and to Women s Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA) towards the Corena Green Girls Junior Scholarship Fund. A welcome change at the Annual Meeting was a brunch, which replaced the customary luncheon and for the first time the husbands of the Board of Directors were invited. A commemorative pin was designed especially for our 75 th Annual Meeting to honor and to thank for their excellent assistance during the past years all USGA Committee members listed in the Green Book, including Maggie Giesenhagen and Ron Read. Alé Braga, a teenage member of Castlewood CC, and a top-ranked junior golfer, was recognized for her remarkable recovery after a near death accident in September Through her extraordinary inner strength and determination, Alé represents the image of America s youth, that we would like to present to the world. The monthly rent for this year is $ plus the maintenance percentage. The option to renew the lease for our office was due in July. The Board agreed to sign a 3-year lease. The increase in rent beginning on August 1, With the increase every year it was agreed that purchasing our own building would be beneficial. Research for a location and building to accommodate all our needs has begun. The Board approved establishing a Building fund for the purchase of a WGANC building when a location can be found. One of the highlights of the year for Directors, members and member club s golf professionals took place in January and February when Ross Galarnault, Manager, GHIN Regional Association Services, at our invitation gave Four area seminars. The Seminars were on the updates of the GHIN EO and TPP Program training. Over 350 club members attended the four seminar.

5 The purchase of a Power Point Projector to be used at our Seminars and 20 laptop surge protectors for laptops was approved in January. Credit cards were approved for the President and Treasurer and were issued on the WGANC account. Over 600 members attended the Regional Meetings in February. The purchase of two Rules Seminar Kits was approved in February. The board approved that anyone borrowing WGANC Radios to be used for Tournaments be responsible for damage or lost parts. The 3 rd annual PWGA/WGANC Challenge was held at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. The trophy was finally held by WGANC. Victory was sweet. The board approved the new blind draw procedure for tournaments in April. A special Handicap Seminar was held in April at Castlewood and presented by Jim Dodd, USGA Handicap Manager, for over 120 members. The Board approved the purchase of the new WGANC Logo golf balls to be given at Regional, Area and Annual meetings as a thank you for attending. In May we approved the purchase of a new Hewlett Packard Color Laser printer for the office and a black & white laser for our tournaments. Continuing our equipment updates approval for the purchase of 10 new Motorola radios and a charger for our tournaments. The new radios allow us to communicate from any location on the golf course. The old radios will be used for tournaments other than WGANC. The board approved the purchase of pins to be presented to the North and South Presidents and Team Directors as part of the policy and procedures of the State Tournament and Team competition. The Southern Board has been presenting the North with pins for the two prior years they were hosting the tournament. The Joint North South Board agreed to shorten the State Match Play tournament to 4-days beginning in This will also change the WGANC Match play tournament to 4-days. The decline in participation prompted a questionnaire being sent to all clubs asking for their preference to retain the 5-day or to go to the 4-day. The response was unanimous. The Board approved the purchase of a Stroke Play Perpetual Trophy similar to the Match Play perpetual trophy instead of the Plaque. The restoration of the Match Play perpetual Trophy was approved. The 7 th Annual California Women s Championship was held at Industry Hills Golf Course-Eisenhower Course, City of Industry in Southern California with Tillie Brunello, PWGA, as coordinator. The 2003 site will be Seaside G.C. Black Horse.

6 The board approved the reduction of the field for the er Tournament to 120 players to be held at two clubs, one day each. The Board approved the change in policy in regards to refunding members dues if not deleted by the deadline. There will be no refund for club members not deleted from club rosters as instructed. The Board approved having the Green Book printed in a darker shade of green ink. The GHIN Users Meeting was held in Monterey this year. Board approval was given for Pat Denton, Linda Stead and any available Directors to attend. The board and the WGANC Team agreed that the Team Director, a Board representative and a Team representative will collaborate on a uniform to be worn by the WGANC Team for the WCGA North/South match to include the WGANC colors in some way. In October we updated our laptop printers. Purchasing 17 HP printers. It was also approved to purchase new Motorola earpieces for the radios, a screen for our projector, an easel and carry case for the tournament laser printer and a new computer for the office. This completed our two-year project of updating all our Tournament and Office equipment. After several conversations with our accountant it was agreed that WGANC would be better off with an accountant that would be more concerned with our type of organization. We requested proposals from accountants more local to the office and received three proposals. The Board approved to accept the proposal of Terri A. Montgomery, Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., LLP as our accounting firm. 52 Open Days were held in 2002 with 15 cancellations for lack of participation. WGANC with the cooperation of our member club Open Day Chairmen enjoyed a record low of 10 No-shows. Three issues of the newsletter were printed this year. WGANC donated $500 each to California Women s Amateur Championship (CWAC) towards the California Junior Girls State Championship and to Women s Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA) towards the Corena Green Girls Junior Scholarship Fund. We were honored to have two USGA guest speakers for our Annual Meeting. A presentation given by Liz Britt for the Fellowship Foundation and from the USGA Committee `Mary Bea Porter King spoke on her life as a golf professional. We were pleased to honor a very special person at our Annual meeting. We awarded a plaque to Patrick Haven in honor of 20 years of designing our awards. He has designed our medallions, pins and ball marks for all our tournaments. His creativity in using the clubs logo has resulted in beautiful pieces of jewelry. We are proud to be associated with Patrick Haven and appreciate his talent.

Membership: The 2003 audit showed $361,952.00, total income received from membership dues. Dues were $ $3.25 per member was paid to GHIN for electronic handicap services. Cost increases made it necessary to increase the dues to $25.00 per member for Regional Meetings were attended by 590 members. North & East Bay 158, North & River Valleys - 153, Central & South Valleys - 145, and Monterey, Peninsula & San Francisco Open Days: Seventy Open Days were scheduled in Fifty-three Open Days were conducted with 3,770 women from 101 clubs participating. The average cost was $34.64 including cart, lunch and sweeps. There were only six no shows, the smallest number ever. Since USGA allows a maximum handicap index of 40.4 it was decided that WGANC will allow the maximum USGA Handicap Index of 40.4 at all Open Days. Tournaments: Eleven tournaments were held, with 1,478 women participating. The number of awards presented was 562 at a cost of $61, The policy for over-subscribed team tournaments was revised. If the field is oversubscribed, selection will be done by blind draw. An alternate list will also be made by blind draw. Teams drawn out of an event will receive an exemption if they apply the following year with exactly the same team. The exemption list will commence in 2003 to be effective in 2004.

8 WGANC Match Play Tournament: The 2002 Board agreed to shorten the WGANC Match Play Tournament to four days but did not set the format in which it was to be played. In 2003 the Board adopted the following changes for the WGANC Match Play Tournament. The Qualify Round was held on Monday with the player s dinner that evening. There were no Defeated Flights. The first round was on Tuesday and a double round on Wednesday. The quarter final round was played Wednesday morning and the semi final round was played Wednesday afternoon. There was no consolation round, the defeated players from the quarterfinals played a stroke play tournament on Wednesday. The final thirty-six holes was played on Thursday. Stroke Play Championship Tournament: The Stroke Play Championship Tournament format was changed for It was decided that a major championship tournament should not be a shotgun start. The field will be limited to 88 players, and the players will go off on the first and tenth tees. WGAC North/South Match Play Tournament was held at Coto de Caza Golf Club in Southern California. The Southern Team defeated the Northern Team. There were 50 players for the tournament and it was agreed that we needed to attract more players. The two State Associations met and rewrote the Format and Policies of the tournament to be played in 4 days believing that it will encourage more players to participate. California Women s Championship Tournament: The 8 th Annual CWC was held at Seaside Black Horse Course with Judi Lorenzen as the Coordinator. Lynn Jansen was appointed to serve on the CWC Committee representing WGANC. Judi Lorenzen will remain on the Committee and serve as Chairman in Funding and organization of CWC was revised. Each Association will contribute 18 cents per member each year to fund the tournament and 7 cents in the odd years to fund the team expenses. The CWC Committee will be made up of 2 members from each Association. Each Association will send the President and one additional member at their expense to conduct the tournament. Volunteers beyond these two will be the responsibility of CWC. CWC will use local people for rules, spotters, etc. and the CWC Bylaws will be rewritten and a budget will be prepared and submitted to the Associations. Alumnae Tournament was held in October at Ridgemark G & CC Directors & Friends Tournament was held in September at Seascape & Pajaro Valley Clubs. WGANC/PWGA Challenge was held in September at the Dark Horse Course in Auburn. PWGA won the trophy back from WGANC. Rules Committee: Rules Coordinator position was established. Lead Rules Official position established for each WGANC major tournament. Rules Committee members were given automatic acceptance in Open Days, the same as Course Raters. Three WGANC Rules Seminars were held in March with 192 members in attendance. A Rules Seminar for WNHGA members was conducted by WGANC in March. Eight Board Members passed the NCGA Rules test and are now WGANC Certified Rules Officials. WGANC agreed to take over rules officiating at the Stanford Pepsi Inter-Collegiate Invitational from NCGA. Applications to the Rules Committee will be sent to the Rules Coordinator to be reviewed and approved by the Regional Co-chairs and Rules Director following the Annual Meeting and submitted for Directors approval at the December Board meeting. Course Rating Committee: The Course Rating Committee rated 31 courses with 73 sets of tees.

9 Handicap Committee: A handicap slide presentation was developed and approved by USGA to keep WGANC in compliance with the USGA Handicap Certification. USGA now requires each of our member clubs to attend a handicap seminar approved by the USGA Handicap Department once every four years. Internet posting is being allowed by USGA. GHIN is offering handicap reports for individual members. WGANC paid $ to GHIN to provide this service to our members. Long Range Planning Committee: This is a new committee established in This committee will study topics and matters assigned to it by the Board. The topics they addressed in 2003 were: Director at Large position, establishing an Outstanding Volunteer Award, funding the Building Fund established in 2002, possibility of Redistricting Areas and preparing for the 100 Year Anniversary of the Association in Tournament Pairing Program: Six training classes for members were conducted by the Executive Director at the WGANC office and Ross Galarneault of USGA conducted a TPP seminar for Directors at the office. The Outstanding Volunteer Award was established. The criteria for the award is: The nominee has given her/his time and talent in the support of Women s and/or Junior Girls Golf. The nominee is respected in the Northern California Golf Community. The nominee has made a significant contribution in promoting amateur golf in Northern California. The selection procedure was set up and the design of the award was chosen. The award will be presented annually by WGANC. Western Women s Associations: Fran Weber, President and Pat Denton, Executive Director, attended a Western Women s Regional Associations Conference in Arizona. The Arizona Women s Golf Association hosted the meeting. Newsletter: Three issues of the newsletter Through the Green were issued in April, August & December. Office: Shelving and new cabinets were purchased for the office. DSL, an internet service, was installed for office computers. Two new Dell Lap Top Computers were purchased. Annual Meeting: The Bylaws were amended. Article VIII was amended to require bonding of the Executive Director instead of the Treasurer and Article V was amended to require indiviual members to obtain handicap services through the Association. Seven new Directors were installed at the Annual Meeting WGANC donated $ to CWAC towards the California Junior Girls State Championship and to WNGHA toward the Corena Green Girls Junior Scholarship Fund and $4, to the Junior Girls Transportation Fund. In recognition of 20 years served to WGANC as a Course Rater Lynn Strinic was presented an Outstanding Service Award.

10 WGANC was pleased to present Annette Reynolds with the First Annual Outstanding Volunteer Award. Sheri Erskine gave an excellent biography of Annette s years of service. 11 2004 got off to a great start with the addition of seven new Directors which we were quick to name the magnificent seven. It was the largest number of new women to be added to a Board at one time since These new Directors.Mary, Donna, Joanna, Pat, Fran, Vicki and Lorie were so smart and quick and eager to learn that we felt very, very lucky to have them. It seems appropriate that they will be the Senior members on the Board in 2007 when WGANC celebrates its 100 th Anniversary! TOURNAMENTS: WGANC started off 2004 with eleven major tournaments scheduled. It was very unfortunate that we had to cancel the 18-49er tournament because of a low sign-up.. 34 entries. The Board decided it was time to address the problems that have surrounded this tournament for the past three years. The solution reached was to combine it with the Nifty-Fifties and increase the size of the playing field to 256 players. The new tournament will be called the 18-59ers. We hope this will turn out to be a good decision. Another Board decision that will affect tournament play is the addition of another Team Challenge to the tournament schedule. There will now be two Team Challenges held each year. The popularity of this event since its inception in 2001 prompted the decision to double-up on a good thing. It is our hope that having two events will eliminate the enormous list of women who signed up but were not able to play. A major change was made in the eligibility requirements for play in WGANC s major tournaments. Beginning in 2005 a woman must be eighteen years of age or older to play in the tournaments. She must also be a dues paying member of WGANC and the 18 Hole Ladies group at her Club. The decision regarding the age restriction was reached after long discussions at two Board meetings. It was not an easy decision to reach but as we are elected to serve the needs and wants of the members it was a decision based on input and feelings from the membership. WGANC still supports Junior golf in many other ways. WGANC Championship Tournament winners were: Champion of Champions.Lynn Cowan from El Macero Country Club Stroke Play Championship.Karen Garcia from Auburn Valley Country Club (Karen broke the course record at Lake Wildwood with a 71) Match Play Championship.Belen Hernandez from Merced Country Club The Women s Golf Association of California tournament (WGANC & WSCGA members) was held at Silver Creek Valley and the champion was Lynn Cowan. Also, at the team matches held the day prior to the start of this tournament, the North team defeated the South team for the first time in five years. The trophy is now in Northern California where it belongs. The team members were Lynn Cowan, Ann Lahey, Ginger Essick, Tracey Freeman, Lyn Nelson, and Sandy Woodruff. Substitutes were Annelise Glueck and Vicki Mathiesen. The California Women s Championship tournament was held in Southern California at Pala Mesa Resort. Lynn Jansen is one member of the tournament committee representing WGANC. I appointed Fran Weber (at her request) to be the other member of this

12 committee starting in Committee members are appointed to serve a maximum term of four years. Each of the five women s golfing associations in California has two members on the committee which is responsible for running this tournament. There were a total of 1314 players in our tournaments. Medallions were awarded to 521 winners at a cost of $62, It was decided that the Stroke Play Championship would remain a shotgun start with a maximum of 100 players. This decision was reached after a poll was taken with the players and the vote was 82-2 to go with a shotgun start. We do listen to what the membership wants. Walking will be an option at the Championship tournaments only. However, a player must still pay for a cart if she chooses to walk. Caddies MUST walk. Full fields will now be 256 players in the 18-59ers, Sassy Sixties, both Team Challenges and the Hers n His Tournaments. The Hers n His award medallion was re-designed after five years of being the bear. The new design is a redwood tree. Players were pleased with this new design. Men were awarded a money clip which seemed to be an improvement over the ball marker. Open Days 70 scheduled, 57 played with 3,789 women participating from ninety-nine of our clubs. There were only five no-shows which was the lowest number ever. Average price for lunch, cart & sweeps was $ The handicap limit was changed to the USGA maximum of a 40.4 index which now allows every member of WGANC the opportunity to participate in the Open Days. The WGANC/PWGA Challenge was again won by PWGA. That made the score 4 to 1 in their favor. We will overcome in 2005! The Challenge was played at The Fountaingrove Club in September. Directors and Friends was played in August at Greenhorn Creek Resort and Sequoia Woods Country Club. The Alumnae Tournament and dinner was held in November at Almaden Country Club. MEETINGS AND SEMINARS: In February we held four Regional Meetings. Attendance and location was as follows with a total of 631 participants: Monterey/SF/Peninsula held at Silver Creek Valley CC East Bay/North Bay held at Santa Rosa CC North Valley/River Valley held at North Ridge CC Central Valley/South Valley held at Fort Washington CC

13 March was the month for the WGANC Rules Seminars. This year they were held at the following locations with a total of 343 participants: Diablo Country Club Maggie Giesenhagen, Leader.114 Sun City Roseville Karen Dedman, Leader..141 Del Rio Country Club Gail Rogers, Leader..88 In June we sponsored two Handicap Seminars which were led by Mary Billups from the USGA. Theses Seminars were held at Castlewood Country Club with 46 attendees and at Sun City Roseville with 31 attendees. The USGA now requires all clubs to be certified for handicapping purposes. As of the end of October WGANC ranked #1 in the nation with percentage of member clubs that had been certified.96%. WGANC signed a new three year contract with GHIN who will continue to be our handicap provider. WNHGA renewed their handicap contract with us through Nine Area Meetings were held in September with a total attendance of 450. The Annual Meeting was held at Castlewood in December with 288 people attending. Golf balls were give to everyone attending all meetings. AWARDS AND DONATIONS: Second Annual Outstanding Volunteer Award was given to Nancy Gapinski. Most Improved Junior Girl Golfer was Courtney Soekland from The Fountaingrove Club. Course Rating Distinguished Service Award was given to Lee Olsen for 27 years of service. $500 donation made to the Corena Green Scholarship Fund. $500 donation made to the CWAC Jr. Girls Championship Fund. $5,300 donation made to the Junior Girl s Transportation Fund. This represented $.25 per member plus an additional $1000 voted by the Board. CHANGES (affecting membership but not related to tournaments) A significant change was made this year when the Board voted to re-align the San Francisco, Peninsula and Monterey Bay areas. The Peninsula area was divided between San Francisco and Monterey Bay with one of those areas now being called the San Francisco/Mid-Peninsula Area and the other the Monterey Bay/South Bay Area. By doing this we were able to reduce the Board by two Directors and it equalizes our eight areas with approximately the same number of clubs in each. A ballot was mailed to all delegates the end of March and it was voted that the WGANC by-laws be changed to allow Clubs with 15 members in a Women s 18 Hole group to join WGANC. This was a change from the prior requirement of 25 members.

14 Two new clubs were accepted into WGANC..Sonoma Golf Club and Eagle Ridge Golf Club. This brings our membership to 107 clubs. Individual member dues were increased from $20 to $25 per member. Beginning in 2005 there will be no more complimentary memberships. A member will pay dues at each club where she is a member. And, it was voted to increase club dues from $15 to $50 in This will be the first increase in club dues since the 1930 s. A new on-call, part-time employee was hired.ann Van Sickel. bringing the office staff to three people. CHANGES (affecting Directors and/or committee members): Medallions for retiring Directors will be fully paid (with semi-precious stones) by the Board. Beginning in 2005 all course rating information will be done through the office. A Director will no longer be assigned to this position. Director Ruth Yohanan, on a medical leave of absence beginning in February, resigned in July. Mandatory rules school policy was changed to be mandatory for the first two years only. After that only the Rules Director and Assistant Rules Director are required to attend. Attendance for all other Directors will be by their choice. Individual rooms will be allowed for Directors and Rules Officials at tournaments where they are required to be there for longer than three nights. The cost is not to exceed more than $100 + tax per night. As a new requirement Directors, Rules Committee members, Course Rating members and Team members were required to submit expenses within 60 days of the expense and be forfeited after 90 days. Course Raters and Rules Committee members will follow the same policy as Directors for overnight stays..when there is more than a two hour commute. For the first time Directors were partially reimbursed for their expenses when they participated in the Directors and Friends Tournament, the Alumnae Tournament and the WGANC/PWGA Challenge. For the first time a golf outing was held at Castlewood on the Sunday morning before the Presidents dinner. All Board members (including newly elected Directors) and office staff were invited to participate. OTHER: Hole-in-One pins were awarded to 206 players.

The new Tournament was called the ers. It was also the first year that WGANC had two Team Challenges. The Team Challenge has always been one of our most popular Tournaments so having two of them turned out to be a good decision. The WGAC was held at Indian Ridge Country Club in Palm Springs in It is at the WGAC that the North/South Matches are held the day before the start of the Tournament. Our team in 2005 was Lynne Cowan, Elaine Harris, Syann Trask, Samantha Trask, Joanna Duran and Ann Lahey. Lynne Gangi was the alternate and Team Captain. Unfortunately the North lost to the South. The winners of our Championship Tournaments for 2005 were: Champion of Champions: Lynne Cowan, El Macero Stroke Play: Karen Garcia, Auburn Valley Match Play: Marianne Towersey, Corral de Tierra HOLE-IN-ONE: Hole-In-One Pins were presented to 73 of the 107 Clubs that belong to WGANC. Pasatiempo scored the most hole-in-ones from one club. MOST IMPROVED JUNIOR GOLFER: Kristen Allard from River Island Country Club was our 2005 most improved junior golfer. Kristen was 15 years old. She started out the year with an 8.3 index which she improved by 6.8 strokes and maintained a 1.5 index by the end of the year. HANDICAP: 2005 was the year that GHIN became reportless or paperless as we sometimes called it.
