SUN Met Day has just got even better, more exciting with the news that celebrity superstar Frankie Dettori will be riding at the Kenilworth spectacle on 28 January. Knowing Frankie s love for champagne, the organisers will be stocking up on GH Mumm! One of the best things about Frankie Dettori is that he gets louder, and funnier, in front of large crowds and also seems to ride even better than he normally does. The expected capacity crowd will hopefully see some of his antics, including his famous dismount, because he has picked up a few decent rides on the day including Mayfair Speculators 2016 Durban July winner The Conglomerate. Derek Brugman of Mayfair Speculators told Turf Talk this morning: Investec s Bernard Kantor phoned up to say that Frankie is a brand ambassador for Investec and that he wanted him to attend the Sun Met as a guest, mingling with the people. We decided it would be a great idea to get him to ride at the meeting too, and with Piere Strydom having committed himself to riding It s My Turn, our runner The Conglomerate became available. We managed to secure rides in three other major races and perhaps one more in one of the lesser ones. Frankie will ride Table Bay for us in the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby, he should be well suited to 2000m. Dennis Drier has engaged him on Seventh Plain in the Gr1 Cape Flying Championship. He has been gelded and is reportedly working well. We ve also put Frankie on Fillies Guineas winner Just Sensual in the CTS Mile, a cracking race featuring top three-year-olds. First Graded win for Romany Prince FOLLOWING the recent G1 triumphs of Bloodstock South Africa graduates Legal Eagle and Bela-Bela, BSA graduates were back in the news following the running of the G3 London News Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday. That G3 feature, delayed by a week after a spell of inclement weather, went the way of former Bloodstock South Africa purchase Romany Prince, who landed the odds for veteran trainer Ormond Ferraris. One of three winners on the day for jockey Gavin Lerena, the Rathmor Stud bred four-year-old dug down deep to hold off a late challenge from former G1 Sansui Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente, before going on to land the first graded win of his career by half a length. Deo Juvente made it a 1-2 finish for BSA graduates by staying on for second, with former G1 SA Derby third place finisher Samurai Blade filling the third berth. Romany Prince, who races for the Dimakogiannis family, was a R purchase from the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. His win in the London News was Romany Prince s second feature race triumph, with the blue blooded gelding having previously won the Listed Drum Star Handicap last year. Romany Prince is the 23rd graded stakes winner for the late KZN sire star Kahal and the third graded winner for the Royal Chalice mare Gypsy Queen. The latter s former progeny included Gypsy s Warning (a G1 winner in both SA and the US. and G2 Camellia Stakes winner Surabi. Both of Golden Touch s two lots are daughters of former Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade, a son of Danehill who reeled off five G1 wins on the trot, with his victories including the Prix Ganay, Tattersalls Gold Cup, Prince Of Wales s Stakes, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Juddmonte International. Since retiring to stud, Duke Of Marmalade has established himself as a top class sire, with his 50 plus stakes winners including such European classic winners and G1 winners as Simple Verse, Star Of Seville, Nutan and Sound Of Freedom. The filly on sale (named Duchess Du Lac) had an exciting update to her pedigree when two-year-old Gold Image (who is out of a full sister to Reflective Image) won impressively first time out over 800m for trainer Glen Kotzen. Gold Image holds entries in both the Listed Princess Charlene Of Monaco Foundation Summer Juvenile Stakes and the R Kuda Sprint on Sun Met day. Duchess Du Lac s second dam was the very smart racemare Velvet s Image, who won four times and was runner up in the G3 Magnolia Handicap. Second of Golden Touch s two CPYS fillies is lot 171 a regally bred filly named Chelsea Garden. She is out of the winning Spectrum mare Rose Garden, whose four winning siblings include former Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain, who won the G2 Godolphin Mile and G2 Joel Stakes in an overseas campaign. 4
