1 Waller weekly news 13 october 2016 French Emotion. Our modern day heroine of the track Winx. The whole team is incredibly proud of her and grateful of the opportunity to be associated with a horse of her calibre. Winx s Caulfield Stakes victory represented the stable s 64th Group One success and our second for the season. Luiza was an exciting early two year old winner for the stable and Star Thoroughbreds at Randwick with plenty more to come from the filly as she hones her race craft. In Times of War broke maiden ranks yesterday at Warwick Farm and is a filly we re hoping will measure up at black-type level in the future for owner and breeder Gerry Harvey and his team - while at the provincials this week we celebrated Dagny and Prince Morpheus also breaking through. This weekend we have a relatively small team running at Randwick while at Caulfield we ll be shooting for the stable s first Caulfield Cup with Sacred Master and Preferment our two entries in the iconic $3 million event. 2 l CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK winx 5yo M Street Cry - Vegas Showgirl by Al Akbar With only two rivals lining up in opposition to the wonder mare it looked to be a formality for Winx in Saturday s Group 1 Caulfield Stakes over 2000m. Regular partner Hugh Bowman was once again in the saddle and he was content to follow his chief rival Black Heart Bart throughout the majority of the race before ambling up to him on the home turn. The pair then left He Or She trailing in third position and Winx moved clear of Black Heart Bart inside the final furlong without Bowman having to ask for too much of an effort. Winx is now the winner of 12 in a row and a whopping eight Group One races and we think she s right on track to defend her Cox Plate title in a fortnight s time at Moonee Valley. Luiza 2yo F I Am Invincible - Zedski by Zedative Having won her only trial to date this daughter of I Am Invincible made the perfect start to her race career when winning on debut at Randwick on Saturday over 1000m. Glyn Schofield was aboard and he had the Star Thoroughbreds filly in a prominent position throughout before taking it up as they turned into the straight. She then had to fight off the challenge of the colt Showtime who was favourite for the race. Luiza showed plenty of determination to do just that and score comfortably at the finish.

3 in times of war 3yo F Street Cry - Military Rose by General Nediym Having finished a close second in her first two starts this talented daughter of Street Cry made it third time lucky when scoring at Warwick Farm on Wednesday over 1100m. Brenton Avdulla was in the saddle and settled the filly just behind the speed in third place before giving her the green light inside the final furlong to go and win her race. She showed a good turn of foot to win comfortably at the line and looks a smart prospect for Gerry Harvey. dagny 4yo M Darci Brahma - One Perfect Day by Fusaichi Pegasus Having been racing in much tougher company in some of her previous starts this daughter of Darci Brahma appreciated the drop back to maiden grade at Kembla Grange on Saturday when winning over 1200m. Jockey Chad Lever was happy to bide his time at the rear of the field early on before producing her with a good turn of foot in the straight to score easily. This was an impressive performance and she showed good acceleration to break 33 seconds for her last 600m. Prince morpheus 4yo G More Than Ready - Little Chloe by Danehill Having placed previously this son of More Than Ready broke through for a well deserved maiden victory at Hawkesbury on Sunday over 1600m. Jockey Glyn Schofield settled him just worse than midfield early on and then came with a sustained run in the straight to gain a narrow victory. 4 Chris Waller leans to Sacred Master over Preferment in the Caulfield Cup In some ways for Chris Waller, Preferment has been a dream horse from the time he got him, but going into Saturday s Caulfield Cup the trainer reckons his best chance does not lie with the four-time group 1 winner and Australian stayer of the year. A winner of the Turnbull Stakes, the Australian Cup and The BMW last season, Preferment is the topweight in the great handicap but, when pushed about his chances, Waller suggests his other chance, Newcastle Cup winner Sacred Master, with only 51kg might be his best hope at a juicy $26. For Preferment, this is the best option we have for him at the moment. He has been disappointing in the Hill Stakes and Turnbull Stakes in the lead-up but he has earned his weight, Waller said. Sacred Master I think has a pretty good chance. He is in form and loves dry track. That is the realist coming out in Waller. You can have your favourites, such as Preferment, but there is a reason why there has been enough money for Sacred Master since the barrier draw to see the bookies wind him in from $34 to $26. The form suggests Preferment isn t at his peak, while Sacred Master is emerging. Waller is happy to have Tommy Berry taking the ride on Sacred Master, which struggled on the wet track to start his campaign but has improved on firm ground and drawn well with barrier eight. He has had a tough preparation and I think you need a tough preparation to win a Caulfield Cup, Waller said. He was good when he won the Newcastle Cup and in the Metropolitan, where he was fourth, he just got too far back and really found the line. Tommy knows him well and I think he is going to run out the 2400m and from gate eight he can be closer in the race. Preferment.

5 Sacred Master. But for Waller, Preferment holds a special place. He was bought to challenge in the staying races around the country and has delivered. He broke his maiden by winning a Victoria Derby then, as a four-year-old, proved a superior stayer. He is bred from the most famous staying lines in New Zealand and it is a legacy Waller is excited to be a part of. He is by Zabeel and that has made him special to me, Waller said. When I started by my career, I couldn t afford Zabeels. I missed out on the Zabeel revolution by a couple of years but to get one at the end his career was great for me and what he has done. We bought him with the idea of being a good stayer and that s what he has been. Preferment has proven tough and the BMW showed that in its rawest form. Hugh Bowman, who rides him on Saturday, memorably won that 2400m group 1 by taking off at the 800m and outstaying, and outdefying, his rivals. That was a pretty special ride and a pretty special day for me, Waller said. It is the biggest staying race at Rosehill, my home track, and to see him win was special. But his form leading into the race has been up to that. We have tried to freshen him for Saturday and try something different but we know he is a good horse. - Chris Roots, SMH. 7 getting to know adam brook This week Rosehill-based rider and stable-hand Adam Brook, kindly took some time to do this week s staff interview and tell us a bit about himself. I m from England and used to go racing with my Dad which is how I caught onto the horse racing buzz. I started riding out for local trainers from the age of 12 and had some race rides. I have since worked with horses in England, America, Australia and Denmark as a rider, racing secretary and jockeys agent Favourite quote? Make your own luck. Favourite part of the job? Seeing the young horses progress through their grades. Favourite horse? The Fastnet Rock - Memories of You 2yo. Best horse ever seen? Frankel. Favourite food? Anything Italian. Favourite jockey?
