Excitement is mounting among the team at Chris Waller Racing as some of our talented and much-adored gallopers close in on a return to racing. While classy geldings Said Com and Velrosso, and the Cups-bound stayer, Permit, have already launched their Spring campaigns with positive performances, an exciting mixture of promising youngsters and stable stalwarts are also set to hit Sydney's racetracks once again. Stable champion Rangirangdoo and multiple Group One-winner Shoot Out have trialed and both are progressing well in preparations aimed at the big races this Spring. A real stable favorite, Rangirangdoo will no doubt give his all again when he goes to the races, while Shoot Out's undoubted class and outstanding performances last autumn suggest he can be a real player in whichever races he contests. Another Waller 'warhorse', Danleigh, is further forward in his preparation and resumed in the Group Two Warwick Stakes for a super first-up third. Now a nineyear-old, Danleigh is a picture of health and simply loves the stable environment. He never lets anyone down and has given the stable many thrills over a period stretching back to his 2009 All Aged Stakes triumph. Of the younger brigade, Fastnet Rock filly Jade Marauder is one horse we hope can continue on from her successful two year old season, when in April she became the stable's first ever Golden Slipper runner. 2 [Issue] :: [Date] HIDEZ A HIT IN WALLER STABLE Shoot Out says if Hidez are good enough for Black Caviar, they re good enough for him! Shoot Out is the latest Group 1 winning star to don a compression suit after Black Caviar stepped out in one recently. Chris commented on the new get up We re trialing the new Hidez compression suits and Shoot Out has a few minor niggles with his back. To see him continue to enjoy his training and racing we thought it might be worth giving them a go. Hopefully this prep we can target some more Group 1 races and further improve his already impressive record at this level In his last preparation, Graeme and Linda Huddy s prized galloper won the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes before a courageous effort for second to More Joyous in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile in April. The three-time Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral now has two trials under his belt of August before plans for the rest of this preparation are decided. Not to be outdone, Madam Nash, pictured with her loyal foreman Andy, sports a red set of Hidez. Stepping up to Saturday city racing this preparation the Flying Spur mare recorded two wins - one at Rosehill and one Canterbury. She s now having a well-deserved four-week break at Boynton Park where she will also complete her pre-training before coming back to the stables. Hidez were invented by Matt Spice, who got the idea after being given a compression suit by a league-playing friend and experiencing first hand how well they work. Working as a chimney-sweep in Richmond, Spice didn t see why the suits couldn t be used on animals and went about getting help to develop a prototype. As well as racehorses, the suits are being used with glowing reports from polo players, eventers and endurance riders alike while Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is now wanting them for his camels in the United Arab Emirates. With Corey Brown on board, the combination served up an old fashioned drubbing to rivals at Canterbury last week. The eye-catching grey announced his arrival on Australian turf, winning the Riddla Thanks Vilis & Topline Handicap (1,550m) by four lengths and adding to his two wins from two starts in France. Although imported from France, Studio boasts a truly American pedigree. His sire is Group 1 winner Political Force, a son of top American sire Unbridled s Song which is where he and Studio get their grey color from. Studio s dam, Rare Blend is a Group 2 winning daughter of Group 1 Santa Anita Handicap winner Bates Motel who shares the same sire as Sir Tristram in Sir Ivor. At stud Rare Blend has produced five winners including Group 3 winner Rare Gift who being by Unbridled s Song makes her a three-quarter sister to Studio. Assistant trainer Peter Muscatt said of Studio He s a real character to have around, wouldn t hurt a fly and absolutely loves food. He even stole some banana bread off one of the kids when they weren t looking recently Studio will go through the grades this preparation, at the moment it s about earning prize-money and building his confidence before setting our sights higher in the Autumn. Another exciting prospect from the OTI group to join the stable after the Spring Carnival is Melbourne Cup targeted Gatewood. All going well, Jade Marauder will continue through the Princess series, with her 'Grand Final' being the Group 1 Flight Stakes on the 5 th of October. As well as the 'big guns' and promising young horses, the deeds of the improving imported trio, Studio, Stout Hearted and Kelinni have also captured the imagination of the team. All are currently in great winning form with bigger assignments looming. And, to name just a few, it is with much anticipation that we look forward seeing well-performed horses such as Dystopia, Hoylonny and the Group Three winning, former English galloper, Class is Class, back at the races. While the winter racing period has provided many winners and a great deal of enjoyment for owners and staff alike, the prospect of participating in the fast approaching Spring Carnival ensures a genuine level of excitement at this time of year. BEACH TRIP A HIT WITH RANGI, SHOOT OUT AND DANLEIGH With nine Group 1 races between them, Danleigh, Rangirangdoo and Shoot Out deserved trip to the beach with the trio heading off to Botany Bay last Saturday after their morning s work. Shoot Out s regular rider, Johanne said the boys had an absolute blast with Shoot Out leading the way once he got over his phobia of the white foam on the waves. In addition to good hills and farmland to get the horses fit on, there is also access to Seven Mile Beach. Safe, Horse Rail, fencing is used throughout the farm while another positive with Boynton Park is that the CWR truck is used to transport the horses to and from the farm. After a successful Sydney stint last year, New Zealand apprentice Jason Collett has returned to be based at the Waller Stables. PO Box 3069Error! Bookmark not defined. North Parramatta NSW The 21 year old was last season s top apprentice in New Zealand with 83 wins and in Australia is still able to claim 1.5kg. Of his riding ability Chris said For an apprentice, Jason is a very strong rider and is an asset to have in the stable riding work every morning and on race-days. Jason s arrival was just a week after his sister Alysha spent two weeks with the stable for some Sydney experience in which she rode Queensland mare Matiya s Pride to a Saturday win at Rosehill.
