1 Waller weekly news 5 SEPTEMBER, 2014 Georgey Aeroplane remains unbeaten at Rosehill. We re back in our winning way this week with four winners including two on Saturday at Rosehill. Both Georgey Aeroplane and Rugged Cross have had more than their fair share of issues and time in the paddock so their victories were even more rewarding for their patient owners. Chris s confidence building plan for Hero I Am saw him step back to mid-week grade and he duly saluted at Canterbury while Hollywood Bound was explosive at the same meeting for a well-deserved win. This Saturday we will be looking to secure our third Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes in a row with Danleigh winning in 2012 and Hawkspur set to try and make it back to back wins. He will be joined by five stable-mates including fellow Group 1 winners Royal Descent and Sacred Falls. Also on the day we have some other great chances at Randwick and six runners in Melbourne at Moonee Valley. We will also be sending our best to assistant trainer Peter Muscutt s son Daniel who has continued to boot home winners at a rate of knots in recent weeks and has a ride on a Dansili 3yo called Galizzi for Sheikh Marwan Al Maktoum in a 150,000 race at Ascot on Saturday. 2 CHRIS WALLER RACING CHRIS WALLER RACING WINNERS THIS WEEK GEORGEY AEROPLANE 7YO G Yamanin Vital Nancy Wake (Personal Escourt) Rosehill, BM m, 5.5L. Winning in amazing style for some of his owners who hadn t met him in the flesh before, Georgey Aeroplane took off around Rosehill to win by 5.5 lengths. He stayed the distance well and really relished the ground and with a confident ride from Hugh Bowman he put the race to bed turning into the home straight. The Newcastle Cup was an option but he may be sent for a spell now as Chris considers him to still be in the rehabilitation phase after a tendon injury. Then next winter we can target some serious races with him and take him up through the grades. RUGGED CROSS 6YO G Cape Cross Lunda (Soviet Star) Rosehill, BM m, 1.3L. Rugged Cross made a winning return to Sydney after his stint down in Melbourne with a dominant win. He won well on a track rated heavy 9 after all of the rain we had during the week. He s a different horse on this sort of surface and can really quicken through it and if this weather sticks around, he will be aimed at the Group 3 Cameron Handicap on the 17 th. He will be able to run in that with a nice light-weight in what has been a relatively weak Group 3 in recent years. HERO I AM 3YO C Hussonet Donna Dior (Marscay) Canterbury, BM m, 0.1L. Racing in stakes company in his two Australian starts and showing promise, Hero I Am stepped back to Wednesday grade for a well-deserved and hard-fought win. Formerly raced in New Zealand, owner Jayven See transferred him to CWR in search of some better prize-money with this colt looking well on his way to some loftier heights with the Gloaming Stakes a likely target. HOLLYWOOD BOUND 5YO G Royal Academy Sutton Rarju (Marju) Canterbury, BM m, 2.3L. Hollywood Bound streaked away for a very well-deserved win on Wednesday at Canterbury. A consistent galloper who has lacked a bit of luck, he never looked in doubt in the hands of James McDonald and will now most likely back up on Wednesday before heading out for a spell. A $67,500 purchase at Magic Millions, he s now won almost $150,000 for owners Mark and Leah Timms. Thanks to Bradley Photographers & Darryl Sherer for our race day photographs.

3 Brazen beau to bypass golden rose Champion trainer Chris Waller briefly flirted with the idea of starting Brazen Beau in the Golden Rose after his blistering trial on Tuesday morning. Chris Waller says he is content to leave Sydney s big race on Saturday to stablemates Sniper Fire and Law to try and win him back-to-back Golden Roses. But Waller elected on Tuesday night to stick with his gut feel and send his colt to Melbourne for a first-up start in Saturday week s Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington. Brazen Beau was scratched from the Run To The Rose on Saturday because of the wet, yet kept ticking over with a 900m tune-up where jockey Hugh Bowman weaved a path to the front. It was arguably the trial of the morning, and you have to imagine how much Brazen Beau s Golden Rose price would have trimmed. Waller, however, said he was content to ditch the $1 million race with Brazen Beau, and leave it to stablemates Sniper Fire and Law to try and win him back-to-back Golden Roses. The horse is fine as you can see, I just wasn t confident about starting him on a heavy track last Saturday, and it would have flattened him, a croaky Waller told The Daily Telegraph from high up in the Rosehill stands. The Golden Rose was discussed with the managing owner, but at the same time we didn t want to jeopardise the rest of his preparation for the sake of a Group 1 race, which would be near-impossible to win first-up. The Danehill Stakes is where he ll run. From there he ll either come back to Sydney for the Roman Consul, or remain in Melbourne. Brazen Beau s main mission this spring will be the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day. The Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day is the colt s ultimate spring prize. Waller s Zoustar won the Coolmore Stud Stakes last year, but only after he clinched the Golden Rose. Law and Sniper Fire will have the job of trying to win a second successive Golden Rose for Waller, with the trainer admitting: I m the first to admit my two horses need to improve, but they ll improve back on good tracks, and they ll be fit. We re sure the Lamphees will put their $100 voucher and jacket and cap to good use being regulars at the races being part-owners in the likes of Eigelstein, Murphy s Delight and Skipper who we will see back at the races later this year. 5 5 Gloaming likely target for hero I am Champion trainer Chris Waller says the Gloaming Stakes appears a realistic target for Hero I Am after the three-year-old recorded his first Australian win at Canterbury on Wednesday. The TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1580m) was run in a howling south-westerly that saw horses running into a headwind down the back straight. Racing NSW steward Greg Rudolph described the conditions as "the strongest winds he can "remember at Canterbury. Hero I Am went into Wednesday's event off the back of two respectable Australian performances where he finished 1-1/4 and 2-3/4 lengths behind Scissor Kick in the Listed Rosebud and Group III Up And Coming Stakes. Hero I Am ($3.30), ridden by Jason Collett, defeated the Peter Moody-trained Monteux ($6) by a short head with Gai Waterhouse's Himpapawid ($2 fav) two lengths back in third. "He's raced in top company in New Zealand and good company in Australia and will continue to improve, the Gloaming Stakes looks a suitable type of race for him Waller said. The Group III Gloaming Stakes (1800m) is run at Rosehill on September 27. Rob started at CWR as a rider earlier last year and has now taken up a position as a foreman. Nickname? Rob-dog or Jesus!! lol nah Irish. Best quote? Sometimes the bad things that happens in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us!! Favourite part of the job?
